At my work we won't put anything on the yard that has less than 4mm tread. I think it's fair to ask for a partial refund as long as you didn't go out and buy super pricey tyres

Interesting enough their AA appraisal says, 4mm all round, our VTNZ inspection says "4mm,3mm,2mm,3mm, excessive shoulder wear, and overall poor condition"

Definately didn't go for Pilot Sports :) ended up going Nexan Nfera SU1 @$260 per tyre fitted. If the dealer came back with $500 id be happy. Waiting to hear back from them.

  2. Would have been nice if the dealers AA appraisal highlighted it, but it didnt, had we known it needed $1000 in tyres it may have influenced our decision as looked at another car same day with 20,000 less kms for the same price ($1000 taken into account). live an learn I suppose, hopefully the car dealer comes to party, 50% would be great, be nice to leave them good feedback.

  3. Purchased a new car recently and was concerned about the tyre condition

    doing something like this

    http://thumbsnap.com/sc/1KfXOIsp.jpg

on all 4 tyres on both the inner and outer water channels. Tyres are also quite noisy and dont seem to have much grip in the dry (even with our hot roads at the moment)

Dealer sent us to VINZ to get an opinion which was

    > VINZ "tyres comply but if getting a warrant we would reccomend they be replaced before next warrant"

so based on that the dealer said no to sorting us out, but said if we wanted to get a 2nd opnion it was upto us. So off to VTNZ for a $29 safety inspection which said

    > VTNZ "tyres in poor condition, replace within 100kms"

So does VTNZ word trump VINZ ? or is it going to be a he said she said type of affair ?. Already got new tyres, so need to figure out approach to get at least 50% of the value back from dealer.

  4. When I had my car tuned at PBMS in Pukekohe they recommended BP98.

The 98 was the best overall balance for economy, power, detonation insurance and of course availability.

Might be a personal thing but i've always run all my performance japanese cars (NA and Turbo) on 98 octane...and as far as I know most of the performance stuff in japan requires a minimum of 96 octane, and preferably 100 octane to run at its optimum.

Putting 95 in (or some gull blend) might save $5.50 per tank but are you getting the same milage ? and is the engine running at its best ?.

  5. Catback alone and intake isnt going to really going to knock your socks off, might sound slightly more sporty and that's about it.

First mods id do on the BL5 (speaking from experience)

    1) Subtech Front Pipe + better Mid Resonator

    2) Drop in panel filter (Simota or K&N)

    3) ECU Reflash (PBMS in pukekohe, or Torque Performance)

At this point you're looking at around $1600...car will gets great economy, and a bucket load more power and torque.

If you really did want to do the rear mufflers and improve the sound as well then sure buy the rest of the system from the subtech pipe back and then do your tune.

I looked at doing the Legacy mufflers for a more sporty sound and found the best option in NZ was a pair of custom sized V8 oval chamber mufflers from Adrenalin R. $599 pair + tips and fitting...all up with flanges and mounting should be < $1200...but to be honest the top 3 mentioned mods were plenty fun....people didnt expect a stock sounding Legacy to have that much oomph.

  6. The LS588 seems to get some great reviews. Landsail...apparently made by the same company as Delinte D7 and supercedes it.

Im weary of chinese tyres as ive been burned by them on a car I brought (Westlake and Linglong ie deathtraps).

The Delinte and Landsail have received accolades and awards in European tests and also Las Vegas autoshow, the CEO also seems committed to shaking up the market

    Review here

    http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Landsail/LS588-UHP.htm

    http://www.amazon.com/DELINTE-D7-4PLY-BW-35R20/dp/B006C4LUHK

    http://www.carid.com/delinte-tires/thunder-d7-972471.html

I can get Delinte D7 for $158 per tyre and Landsail LS588 for $200...

If they are as good as Falken ZE912 id be very happy at that price.

  7. Purchased a new car 1 week ago from dealer fitted with Yokahama ECO DNA ES300, they are 4 years old (based on sidewall marking) with about 40% wear and discovered yesterday they had cracks running around the circumference on all the outer water channels.

Anyway my goto tyre (Falken ZE912) isnt available in the size I need 245/40/19 so looking at what options I have in the $200-$250 per tyre range.

I thought id found some good ones, but every review I read has about 70% good and 30% negative reviews so its hard to actually gauge if its a good tyre or not.

    So far ive considered

    Nankang NS20

    Hankook Ventus V2

    Achilles ATR Sport 2

    Delinte D7 Thunder

    But cant decide.

car is a family car (Nissan Fuga 450GT) mainly used for town and occasional monthly open road trip, although not a true performance car it does have 250kw and is RWD so ideally would need some grip.

Leaning towards the Delinte D7...any other suggestions ?

    Not selling it (yet).

What resonators are the best value for money? AdrenalinR? Any alternatives? Gotta be stainless.

Considering putting another resonator in-line with HKS factory one that is already there.

I paid $130 for my Adrenalin R resonator, superb quality. Took the rasp right out of the Subtech front pipe, nearly returned it to stock sound. I wouldn't use anything else in terms of price, quality and function.

You are selling to girls... so leave the mod list out completely and talk about how much fun it is... and how practical - take photos all

the storage compartments and vanity mirrors.

I spent 1 week re-doing the Ver R trim package (Metallic Red) I wonder should I have done it pink ? Perhaps do a theme car ?

    or full ZOmbie ??

Change the wheel color orange looks awful and its bound to put buyers off perhaps black would be better, also the first thing you read is you want to sell asap to buy a Audi(remove that bit) that only tells me its a boring car to drive and i to feel like buying a audi after reading that, ditch the stereo install pictures!

shine the car up and take it to some nice spots for pictures/photo shoot, having picture of the car at a gas station isn't really ideal and neither is your own drive although seeing it looks like a nice area might be an advantage. ultimately you are probably trying to attract a female drive so nice shiny pictures that say fun times will work lol.

Orange wheels is what attracted me to the car in the first place :), trust me when I say they grow on you, I could offer to change the wheel colour for perspective buyers ?? as Id like to keep them orange if it didnt sell.

    Removed the audio pics :)

Shine the car up ?? I spent 4 hours last week buffing it with a high speed and Meguiars ultimate compound. But yes I should park it next to the Waikato river and take some nice nice pics (mabey let the handbrake go and get some $$ quicker :) ).

LOL on the female driver comment, but dont forget the other target male market, husbands who's wife wont let them own sports cars due to having to cart kids around. Gets you your performance fix without having to buy a people mover or boring low powered shopping basket :).

Sounds legit to me haha! Might give both a try, I still have an amp and sub from my previous car as only got the Legacy this year so wont be an expensive upgrade in the mean time.

    Thanks for the help!

For sure, I should also mention I did upgrade the stock sub but still run it off the factory amp

    - dynamat the whole parcel tray

    - MDF spacer to raise new sub about 15mm up

    - use a shallow mount sub (unless you have model without the torsion springs to lift boot)

Hardest part was finding a sub that was

    a) free air \ infinate baffle capable

    b) lowish RMS rating 120RMS or less

    c) high sensitivity

    d) shallow enough to clear the torsion spring that tucks in when boot closed

Ended up going for a GRS 8" Subwoofer from Parts Express $60 shipped, OK bass but does distort above 30 on the volume, still better than rattly blown factory one. If I were to do again definately be going for the Pioneer SW841d Shallow mount sub.

Seriously?.. :D Have you done any of those mods to your own car or you just heard that somewhere?

Not denying those mods would make for a stunning handling cornering machine, but he did say his wife was driving it, and he doesn't sound like he is going to be throwing the car at corner at speeds well over the speed limit on public roads.

Driving a tuned Legacy myself the extra power is far more useful and the stock Bilsteins plenty capable for many of our twisty roads (ie Kaimais, Raglan run etc), given the $$$ sure id say do the lot, but given the choice between $1500 worth of handling mods, or ECU Remap and Exhaust, id take the power for a daily driver.

Yes i've also done the aforementioned mods to another car, and although great for handling it did make for a slightly less comfortable ride on NZ roads.

Good luck, the main kiwi mitsi forum died a while back

Not big on your two options buuuut least they're something different, something to be said for going off the beaten track (for NZ). I'd be looking at the ones with 2 more doors, and cylinders if it were me haha

Would so love an RS4 :) but my budget is strictly set at $22K. If I were to wait another 2-3 years I may be able to get into a TT RS (5 cylinder Turbo 255kw) amazing car....but Im one of those "want it now" kind of people :)

Advertise it in other places too such as autotrader and Mitsubushi enthusiast's sites too. can't have it advertised in enough places in my opinion. But i suppose it depends on how quickly you want to sell the car.... :)

As i have found with many things on trademe is that most people want everything for almost nothing........ :)

    just my thoughts.... :):)

Yeah got it on AutoTrade, MIVEC Forums, Toyspeed etc. Might try and find Mitsubishi forums as well

Personally I hate when people write about their feelings when selling a car, short version is you can't win either way

I always just talk the simple things up - YEARLY WOFS WOO - CAMBELT DONE WOO - LOADS OF TREAD YUSS - GOES LIKE A CUT CAT OH YEEEAH

Then list the technical stuff for the ones who will care about it

You can't go too far wrong, thing that always gets my goat is when people write a bare minimum of info "yeah 2l turbo goes hard, interior ok or whatever also has this weird fault where the dipstick flies out under boost but my mate tells me it's sweet"

To be fair those little cars are hard case little pocket rockets, just very um... polarising

for sure, definitely a love hate thing with the Colt. I've had people call it a nana car and shopping basket, but the look on their faces when you start it up and drive it into a corner at speed is gold, they corner surprising well for such a tall narrow car. One thing I certainly would miss is the uniqueness of it.

I have managed to narrow my next car down to quite a unique specd 2007 Audi TT Mk2 (3.2 V6) failing that a 2004 SLK350 AMG in manual (only one in NZ for sale).....but if I miss out on either or both, then I'll settle for my Angry little Colt a bit longer :)

Just read through, my 2c. U listed too many mods without saying how you feel when driving it, make the reader quite lazy to read all of them. I suggest you should write how awesome is the car, how you care about it, the driving feeling, few main mods, then when they come to see it, you can list all the mods later.

Brand new engine definitely raise people's interest, i not in the market for your car so I don't know but just list the price you think it is fair (not too high, not too low). May take a while to sell your car imo

Thanks for the tips, have compacted up the list a bit more and put some more emotion \ feely into it :)

I was initially reluctant to list new engine as I thought that may put people off, but often on TradeMe they are 2nd hand low km, or rebuilt. So I thought mine being literally new and dealer installed might be a point of difference compared to the 80,000+ kms one selling for same price on TradeMe.

  17. So, i'm selling one of my cars (not the Subaru). shamless TradeMe plug in 3,2,1 - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=954244166

Just wondering if there is anything I should add or remove from my advert ? currently have 14 watchers, but no bites yet.

    a) would the fact I had a brand new engine fitted matter \ affect peoples interest ?

    b) should I list mods, or just leave them out ?

    c) are my pictures adequate ?

    d) MOST important, does my price sound fair ?

Based on the others for sale which are mostly high kms, tiptronic and dont have the nice Recaro seats, I thought $12,000 was quite a fair price.

Wow thanks! I didnt realize how big of a job it would be.... maybe ill just pay someone to do it so I have someone other than myself to blame if it dosent work :D haha.

Assuming with the setup as is I wouldnt get a better low range if I only upgraded the sub? Just dont get as much of a kick from it as id like.

    But if so any recommendations?

I recently went though the upgrade saga on the legacy, and yes I do like a little extra doof doof. By far the best mod I did was to dynamat the front doors, and replace the 6.5" with the compatible ones at Jaycar for $41.50 each. All up it cost

$115 for Dynamat door kit (Abtec)

$83 for 6.5 speakers at Jaycar

    $20 for MDF spacer rings

$0 real estate sign for placing over the larger holes in door

$40 for some sound proofing foam to line over top of Dynamat (Jay Car)

Mid bass was drastically improved off the stock amp\headunit.

Do that first and then decide if you want to do a sub upgrade.

  19. Handling wise they are not to bad (referring to 2003-2006 2.0GT or 3.0R), the Bilstiens in the Spec Bs are pretty solid for cornering at speed. If anything id make sure you first had good tyres and good brakes. but unless you were tracking the car, you wont get much out of the handling mods (ie underbracing, nolathane bushes, sway bars, end links, strut braces etc).

Extra power on the other hand can be way more useful in terms of overtaking, quick takes offs, and generally getting you out of hairy situations that involve the go pedal instead of the stop pedal.
