From memory its about $17, that might be per plate though, so $34 a car?

I had to replace one due to accident damage once, it was about 10 years ago though, info might be on the LTSA website somewhere.

Seem to remember it being cheaper than that. But then again that could have been the cost for moving the personalised plates to a new car. It was a while ago. The plates are currently gathering dust in the garage.

That was a general question, sorry :) Not about your particular system, McDoof.

    Doh !

Anyway. Hey sobanoodle, were you selling the HKS mufflers on Trademe a little while ago? I was tempted. But as I said above. My car budget is limited. Things like mortgage, wife and 3 kids seem to take priority for some unknown reason.

What size pipework for the headers (past the cats)? 2.25" or 2.5"? The rest of the system is 2.5".

The bit after the cats is 2.5" but not mandrel bent so effectively only 2.25 in throughput. After the Y the "catback" is stock at this point. So I am still restricted at the rear of the system. Don't have the budget to do it right at this point so I would rather leave it until I have the money to get it done the way I want it. I am on the lookout for a set of pre facelift GT mufflers so I can make some custom mufflers. Basically gonna gut the muffler and put a perforated tube between the inlet and outlet with wadding in the muffler to absorb sound. It needs to flow without being loud.

  4. So I decided I liked the idea of the Nexus 7 in dash, but I was not that keen to splurge the $500 plus on plastic parts from Japan in the form of the facia kit and info display relocation kit, so I came up with a bit of an alternative. For 2 reasons. One being the cost of the parts the other being the fact that I actually still like using my tablet and didn't want it dedicated to the car

Here is the list of things I purchased for the build

    1 x Nexus 7 2013 (WiFi) NZ$122 (Second hand off Trademe)

    Purchased Timur's Kernel for power management.https://timur.mobi/timurs-kernel-n7-2013/ $35

    1 x 12v DC to 5v DC converter 4 port USB power (5A total)http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321530483883 $12

    1 x OTG Y Cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/251620434151 I like the 90 degree connector $3

    1 x Hard case for the Tablet http://www.dx.com/p/protective-abs-back-case-for-google-nexus-7-ii-black-247238 $6

    1 x Video Grabber for reversing camera http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Factory-price-EasyCAP-USB2-0-Video-Adapter-with-Audio-1channel-and-2-chips-STK1160-GM7113-High/1760001577.html $11

1 x Reversing camera http://www.dx.com/p/wired-170-degrees-waterproof-car-rearview-camera-for-subaru-forester-outback-impreza-legacy-194056#.VblRB_lhKBp $20 I will replace this at some point because the resolution is crap

1x Belkin HD Bluetooth receiver http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-SongStream-Bluetooth-Music-Receiver/dp/B00AG6NSNO $50 (I had Amazon credit so this was free for me) pluged into the aux port on the Anycarlink

1x Relay that I had lying around in the garage for triggering the reversing camera app

Total cost, $259 if you include the cost of the BT receiver

    Things already in the car

1 x Anycarlink that connects to my phone for bluetooth

The big question was how to mount the thing. I looked the magnetic holders and tablet window mounts and all sorts of stuff like that but didn't really like the look of those. I wanted something that looked a bit more integrated. So I have chosen...... A block of wood.

Here it is my high tech dash mount in it's raw state.

I cut this from a normal bit of bearer and it slots perfectly into the dash cubby with the lid open. Nice and snug

Next I attached the case to the wood using screws and then I put the tablet into the case and slid it into the slot. Hey presto.

And just the home screen with the most used apps

I have painted the wood black too so it looks a bit better.

Just a few picks of the ghetto install. Sorry they are blurry.

I used a hole saw to cut out a part of the wooden block so I could fit the power supply into it. It is currently powering only the tablet's OTG and the Belkin BT receiver

Different size hole saw to cut out some space at the back of the cubby.

This is the video grabber. I know it isn't pretty but it lives hidden from any sight. I have split the 5V+ on the USB cable and put that through a relay which is triggered by the reverse light, so the video grabber only turns on when I am in reverse. This in turn triggers the vCam application on Timur's Kernel so the reverse camera turns on automatically. Very clever TImur. Using option 1 from here https://timur.mobi/timurs-kernel-n7-2013/auto-rearcam/

The Anycar link is connected to my phone for mobile calls and the Belkin unit is connected via 3.5mm jack into the Anycar Link. I tried a few cables to get decent sound quality and settled on a Belkin cable.

The Anycar links into the CD changer port on the McIntosh system so I can pick up calls from the steering controls.

Last but not least. I have this mobile wifi unit for data to the tablet. I got this because tethering to my phone used the phone battery and it's bad enough as it is.

Tablet talk installed so I can make and answer calls from the tablet directly.

  5. Got the car back from the paint shop yesterday. Front, bumper, bonnet and roof are now all chip free. Although the finish is OK now, I had to take it back after I first got it last week. So don't make the mistake I did and get a Grabone deal for Onshow Kustoms. Ray is a nice enough guy, but seems to lack attention to detail. I'll post some pics once I get some wax over the new paint.
