  1. I think for now I'll just spend a little on the current car to make it the best it can be. Maybe a new clutch and some suspension bushes to tighten up the ride a bit. Think I might get the front bumper resprayed too. After driving the TT this afternoon I think I would miss the all over torque that the H6 delivers. If and that is a very big if I ever have the funds to turbo this thing and have another car as a daily while I build it then I'll probably teach myself to weld and do it myself. Thanks for the input guys. BTW if anyone is looking for a good TT. That blitzen on TM is in pretty good shape for a 13 year old car.

Dude.... Turbo the legacy you have.... Someone here pulled over 500kws on e85 from an ez30 +t and some strengthening of the bottom end... Hell even keeping low boost on factory internals would turn it into an absolute weapon

Hahah. I have actually considered that. The Raptor headers are a good starting point for a turbo manifold. The problem with that is simple. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY. Doing it right will cost me around $5k. I was thinking of making my pockets fuller, not emptier.

    1 x GT 3576 or similar

    1 x fabricate manifolds

    1 x Intercooler and piping

    You see where this going

But yes I hear you in a way. Apparently the stock internals are good for about 270kw atw while still staying reliable.

  3. Hmm, yes food for thought there.

Maybe a move to a turbo from a 3.0R is a possible way to go. I think the fact that the Gen 4 is more of grown up car probably is not a bad thing either. Would have to be manual yes. Not a fan of autos unless it's in a Golf R and it's called DSG.

I'll have to go out and do some test driving. I took a pretty tidy Blitzen out for a drive earlier. Seems only need a service (Which I can do myself) and 1 or 2 bits of trim sorted out. Listed for just under 7k one would assume it would be let go for around 6k. Only problem would be that it is very very red. Seems to have a new clutch, new Eagle F1s and a 2 year old cam belt replacement.

  4. So I have come to a point where I suddenly have an itch to change my car again. I hate it when that happens.

I am currently driving a slightly modified MY05 3.0R SpecB Manual.

I am toying with the idea of getting a 2002 - 2003 GTB or Blitzen Wagon if I can find one. (Facelift). I know it's very different, I've had a TT before. But it would mean that I have some cash in my pocket that can look pretty when put towards my mortgage and I can spend about half of what comes from that to make the TT usable.

    Thoughts?

    Pros and cons?

  5. Just a bit of thread where we can cover all questions and answers for the various exhaust options and so on.

    What have you got?

    What works?

    What doesn't?

    I have a MY05 ADM 3.0R SpecB 6 speed.

    Exhaust setup is

Raptor Headers -> Stock Cats -> Custom 2.5" piping to Y -> 3rd cat delete -> Stock cat back

Tuned to make the most of it :-)

  6. That is the same ECU as the one he did for my mate, so yes he has a tuning def for that ECU. IIRC he uses a different bit of tuning software for that ECU though. None the less, he can do it and the owner of the outback is very happy with the result. I can probably send you the base tune if you want to test it out.

Hi there. I'm having my car tuned by Matt in a few weeks. Just curious, what effect did the headers have on fuel economy.

    Cheers.

    Chris

The headers have had virtually no effect on fuel economy. I keep logs of all fuel consumption so I can say with fair accuracy that it has not changed noticeably. He did a remap for the extra flow on the headers when I got them which gave a noticeable change in how the top end behaved. Get the tune done without the headers for now and then get him to send you and update when you get them fitted. If you don't have a tactrix cable then I can load up the map for you later. (if you are in Auckland that is)

I had mine fitted at Midas Panmure. He did a pretty good job and didn't cost the earth. Around $260 from memory.

I'd say go tune only and leave it at that, no point with much else for the $$$.

I sort of agree with this. I think the best value lies in the tune. Even if you don't get a big boost in top end power it makes the car so much nicer to drive. That goes for both MT and AT cars. I couldn't believe how much better that car was with just a base (non custom) tune was from Matt (throttlehappy). That said I'm happy I did the headers too.

Oh right, is yours 6sp? Have you come close to 300 flywheel hp? For the big airbox in front of the throttle body I'm fabbing a chamber out of 6" dairy tube, with 3" inside it, that has a few large holes bored in the tube so it behaves a bit like the stock item, but should be more durable. Basically a kakimoto replica. Also doing the intake arm as well, I see raptor does a cold air intake that they claim makes a lot more power? I didn't think subarus had much of a problem with the stock airbox, although the feed in to it could be improved a bit?

I have noticed the power delay correlates to the temperature of the car, when it's properly warmed up it feels noticeably better... But that could just be me lol.

I have had a fair few conversations with member Daytona. He has an 07 ADM 3.0R 6MT. He has done the Raptor intake too along with a huge amount of work on his exhaust. He recons the raptor intake makes a difference. (according to the butt dyno). I was considering making my own CAI too, but decided to hold off for now. Need to get a decent 3" MAF mount to start with and pick up some piping and elbows etc.

As to how much HP my car is making. Your guess is as good as mine. It will go on the dyno on the 23rd and we will see. According to the virtual dyno map that was sent to me it is making 170kw atw. I think that might be a bit inflated though considering that the car should make about 130kw atw in stock form I would be happy with around a 20kw gain for the mods I have done.

One thing the virtual dyno does show though is flat torque curve the car produces. It is a real pleasure to drive. And yes it is a 6 speed. I really don't like autos for my daily drive.

Probably the huge price difference, because Andrew's good at hooking Club-Sub Members up as he is one. Also the fact I ran my DBA rotors at flat nats and gave them absolute death with Bendix Ultimates and they held pace, no cracking, brake-fade etc.

Ahh, I see. Normally the DBAs would be more expensive. But if there is good pricing available then that makes sense. What is the best way to make enquiries? Via Clubsub or just contact him directly?
