  1. Ok so a 6.5" speaker should fit in the actual hole in the door with the speaker fitting kit? Are the 6500cx any good? I may get those.. I suppose this wouldn't be powerful enough? http://www.wavetech.co.nz/Clarion-XR2220.html They're 3ohm speakers right? How does that work with an amp? How about the door boot is there a trick to getting the wire through it? My electric window button is loose now I put it back in, did you guys have that?
  2. Are Soundmagus amps any good?
  3. But a 6.5" speaker won't fit in the factory mount as it's only a 15.5cm opening..
  4. Well I had a test run taking the door panel off today and got some speaker measurements. The spacer is about 15.5cm and the speaker is just under 15cm. Does this mean 16cm/6.5"" speakers wont fit or will they fit with these spacers? http://www.hyperdrive.co.nz/product/speaker-spacers/706/no902-universal-spacer-6-5/151232/detail# Does anyone have any tips for getting the speaker wire through the door boots? How do you mount the crossovers usually? Double sided tape or something? Just got to decide on speakers now. If not these jbl's http://www.soundtech.co.nz/jbl-gto-608c-component-speaker.html can anything else be recommended up to the $200 mark? I'm hearing good things about Focal and Soundstream.. This review on the jbl's mentions good mid bass but not good low bass but I suppose this is mostly normal for components? http://www.amazon.com/JBL-GTO608C-6-5-Inch-Component-System/product-reviews/B0024JARH6 "If you run new, thicker wiring then yes it'll be a true 2 ohm. JBL/Infinity do some wierd stuff with their speakers. Alot of them are designed as 3 ohm which then due to the thin factory wiring is essentially seen as 4 ohm at the amp. Thats their theory atleast, there's no way thats the case for every car. As long as your amp is rated for 2-4 ohm as most are you won't have any problems being in between 2 and 4" So the amp should determine what the speakers are asking for?
  5. Would anyone know if these JBL's are actual/true 2ohm speakers that can be connected at 2ohm on the amp? http://www.soundtech.co.nz/jbl-gto-608c-component-speaker.html
  6. So the wiring kit fuse doesn't have to match the amp fuse rating? Is 95W a reasonable amount of headroom for 70W components?
  7. What about the wiring kit, does it matter what size fuse is in the power wire? Amp I'm looking at as one 30 amp fuse.
  8. Hi Marky, No the GPS did not function, only displayed aircon/circulation and outside temp. Wabbit, what was the relay you hooked it up to and where is it? Is it somewhere behind where the stereo goes?
  9. If the front speakers are 6.5" will I most likely need speaker spacers? http://www.hyperdrive.co.nz/product/speaker-spacers/706/no902-universal-spacer-6-5/151232/detail Will I need new/longer screws for the spacers?
  10. What size fuse do I need in my wiring kit if my amp has a 30amp? Does it need to be equal or can it be higher? Is anyone more certain on the speaker size for a 1999 B4?
  11. I'm probably going to go for this clarion amp http://www.wavetech.co.nz/Clarion-XR2220.html paired with the jbl's I mentioned. There's some talk of clarion amps being overlooked as pretty good amps and I just stumbled across this. Do quality components amped really blow away factory sound setups? I find at highway speed/traveling my sound turns to **** This amp has one 30amp fuse, most wiring kits have 60amp fuses in the power lead. Is that ok? Are any of the wiring kits on trademe any good? Looking for 100% oxygen free. Does anyone know what size speakers fit in a 1999 legacy b4 depth etc?
  12. Does anyone know what size speakers fit in a 1999 legacy b4? 6.5'' seems pretty standard so I imagine those but what about depth measurements?
  13. Well I'm thinking probably these jbl components http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=974808270 Would the amp I mentioned be suitable/unsuitable for those?
  14. Looking at this in particular http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=976039969 to power some quality components. Would anything else really be any better? It would provide heaps of headroom for 70W rms 2 ohm components being 190 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms. Wouldn't be too much headroom would it?
  15. Ok, I'll have a think about whether I can handle it otherwise I might take it to auto electrician and see if they can. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the info.
  16. Turns out that 13 pin cable is a data cable. I'm guessing it probably transfers audio data from the sat nav to the stereo when it does actually work as a sat nav.
  17. I can't work out what the purpose of the 13 pin cable from the sat nav connected to factory stereo was. At this stage I think it is just so it receives power from the wiring harness plugged into the factory stereo which is stupid I reckon. I can't think of any actual data or information that the sat nav requires from the factory stereo except just a power source.. So maybe what we're saying is that the 13 pin cable from the sat nav just requires a power source to function and not any data by being plugged into the factory stereo. Hope that's not too confusing.
  18. Is the square connector your talking about the 13 pin cable? Like this: http://geb.ebay.in/g/ImportHubViewItem?itemid=281347933523&us-seller-13-PIN-SQUARE-Ce-NET-DIN-CABLE-CORD-CLARION-PANASONIC-SUZUKI-SUBARU How do you short the two pins? What is the relay? "The other two pins on the relay were then connected to the switched 12v source (the wire that turns on/off the stereo)." Do you mean the wire from the stereo harness? Like this bit?
  19. What else did it show before? If you have the sat nav displaying the air con settings, outside temps etc then that's all my done in the first place. It displayed air circulation settings as well. I installed the antenna adapter today and had another good look behind the sat nav. Disconnected the battery also this time and all was good! It turns out the sat nav requires the power (connector with all the wires) plugged into the factory stereo and the 13 pin cable connected to function. I can't think of any way to make this work, the power connector is now plugged into my aftermarket headunit and there's nothing to plug the 13 pin cable from the sat nav into. I'm in Putararu..
  20. Hey, I think I have the same setup as you and I'm trying to do the same thing. The sat nav requires the factory stereo to operate:mad: Have you had any luck with it? I'd be great full to know how you got the sat nav functioning if you did.
  21. Apparently there are some Legacy B4 models that come with the mcintosh stereos that are amplified as well. Does any one know what versions they are and what the stereo/amp specs are?
  22. The other annoying thing that is happening is that every time I muck around in behind stereo the battery keeps going flat. The first time I realised I had accidently hit the fog light switch and left it on, then the next day it happened again. I may have accidently switched the headlights on this time but is there any reason for it to go flat otherwise? No trouble jump starting it when this happens. Is it better to just disconnect the battery while working?
  23. Hey guys, Yeah it's turning out to be a real pain in the ***. One car audio shop won't tell me how to do it but I'm hoping another is going to help. Wabbit are you saying what you've done doesn't have the sat nav working exactly like it used to? Not sure what two pin your talking about, I found it was a 13 pin cable connecting the sat nav and factory stereo. One guy told me today they have to mount that bit of factory stereo somewhere else in the car then run a longer cable from the sat nav to it or something. Such a pain, can't afford lot's of shop labour. A guy at MadSoundz sounds helpful so I'm waiting to hear back from him.
  24. Hi, I want to install an aftermarket headunit. I have the double din factory stereo and sat nav configuration. I've been told that the sat nav screen won't display if the stereo is removed and that it requires some sort of wiring mod to keep the sat nav operational. I'm on a real budget and want to install myself. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with doing a headunit install in the stereo/sat nav version and if/what the wiring mod entails. Thanks.
  25. Also are the speakers in a 99 B4 6.5"?
