  1. Yeah unfortunately was struggling to get my hands on an td04, and I was able to get my hands on brand new vf38s fast and cheap. oil I couldn't event tell you, as per Subaru specialist 4000kms ago.always run on 98, been driven like an absolute nana as I'm terrified of problems and the only thing done engine wise is me backing the boost off to 10psi.
  2. Haha it'll be that or getting torched. Just want some clue, perhaps from people who have had similar problems in the past that can give some info so I don't go trying to go back to the specialist clueless and get walked over and no warranty
  3. Hey guys after a bit of Subaru wisdom had a bp5 legacy for about a year now and done a little under 4000kms in it. It's run the big end (on Sunday being the second) on two engines, and 3 vf38 turbos in the I'm Iv had it. Iv replaced the turbos myself and the motor was swapped at a Subaru workshop (I do have a year warranty on the swap). Cars currently down the line at a tow yard so do have it at hand to inspect. my question is do they have an oil cooler or external oil pump or anything the may have been left it the car when it had the engine swap that could be crimped, damaged, blocked that could be causing low oil pressure or the likes? trying to get an understanding before I take any next steps, any advice, info greatly appreciated
  4. Originally I thought hey second hand turbos, could of just been **** luck although they appeared pretty sound when they went in. But now that Iv had a new one let go I think I can eliminate that three turbos might have been the cause. Leaving really only the oil or water. I know it gets a **** load of water, and I presumed when I primed the oil I had plenty being pumped up. But could it still be that is not enough? its definitely heat at fault, the last turbos exhauste impeller literally had the metal crystallise due to heat and shot the impeller into the cat. its only a daily car so if the vf38 worked correctly I'll be happy. I have no intentions of trying to get any more power out of it. iv been driving it with the boost backed off to 9-10psi.
  5. hey guys, new to the board and in desperate need of help!!!!! apologise if post is in wrong thread iv had my bp5 for all of 6months and blown a motor and this afternoon blown the 3rd turbo (vf38). originally i shrugged my plague to bad luck but after today somethings got to be up. when the motor blew i had a second hand engine replace it but used the same turbo. it was a vf38 with the housings enlarged and a vf28 cartridge fitted. 300 odd kms later the turbo blew. it was replaced with another stock second hand vf38. another 2000kms later it too let go. chernobyl'n big time. i then machined up the stock housings removing all the marks and scars and fitted a brand new cartridge. everything went mint for another 3000kms (got a bit more out of this one). all turbos iv done myself, pumping up oil pressure and getting oil to the banjo bolt before running. an secret subaru advice? iv been told perhaps filters in the banjo bolts may be restricting the feed? cars not been driven hard
