  1. I think its all about what you want the car for I had a s14 with around 240kw at the wheels and have had a rb25det skyline also with the typical bolt on mods. IMO the silvia was like driving a automatic primera until it came on boost and then it turned into a twitchy little tin can and the skyline just spun the wheels everywhere until you hooked 4th gear and it caught grip.

With the WRX even though I have a lot less power and most likely more weight I feel that the power band is a lot more enjoyable and the car feels a lot more rigid and you can throw it into a corner on a track without feeling like its twisting.

Al thought when slipway in wellington was open the skyline was a lot of fun! .

its all kinda irrelevant because the so called advantage which one might insinuate to make it an unfair comparison is very much the whole point of moving to the superior cooling design. the true function of intercooler is not directly a power upgrade item, it is all about improving efficiency of the turbocharger system. better intercooler will provide benefits of lower pressure drop and better at transferring heat away from the charged air. from first post it was already stated that same boost level was retained but it netted more power. the reason for this would have been the ECU did not have to trigger the intake temp safety adjustments with front mount hence without even any tuning differences, the power run would have shown higher power. i know in my car with the twisted turbo setup, it was like 0.5cm from touching the top mount hence heat soak was always evident and not something i could avoid with any kind of top mount within space i got in my engine bay. intake temps not long after cold start quickly rose to 30-35, peak boost at 55 celcius which would put it at 30+ degrees above ambient temps.. with my front mount i've never seen IAT rise higher than 28 degrees even in summer

Engine work is all a bit above me at the moment so most likely not a gain of 35kw its more the intercooler has allowed them to maintain the extra 35kw through the power runs?

I suspect that low power reading would have been done after back to back runs to show how much power it makes once the top mount intercooler is heat soaked already, so the 35kw increase possibly isn't as good as it sounds. More that with a FMIC it can actually maintain that power, not degrade pull after pull.

The lag/response difference (or lack of) is some proof I hadn't seen before.

Very true had not thought of this, thanks for pointing that out. makes sense though! if that is the case it would be good to know the non heat soaked numbers to see if there was much of a gain.

  4. Has anyone seen the post by Prestige Tuning & Motorsport on facebook in regards to this question? if not you should go check it out!

They just had a GC8 in with some motor work and a Tomei turbo on it and completed a dyno run with the (process west) TMIC. then they fitted a Process west FMIC and on the same boost gained an extra 35kw with the air temps maintaining 26 - 28 degrees through the power runs.

Was so cool to see a dyno proven result on this topic. If someone isnt a computer noob like myself please copy the article to here ha ha

thats pretty cool, which turbo and more importantly how was the power curve? getting more and more curious about what is the best bang for buck on the v7. i've learned in fairly expensive way that chasing top power is pointless and should be more concerned about the distribution of that power through the rev range.

So true! I am going to go with a stock location turbo i think just to get a bit more punchy power rather than chasing the 300kw figure haha. At the Chrome expression session at manfield I noticed the power band difference quite a lot with coming out of the corner onto the front straight next to a high KW big turbo evo / wrx and them only passing me 3/4 down the straight as I was on boost and not falling out of it from the moment my foot hit the floor.

I definitely think it depends what you are wanting the car for but it was quite interesting to see car vs car. I am sure @calebwrx would of noticed this also.

    thats running bp 98 actually

its a greddy td06 SL-2 20g was set at 26 psi for that turbo

    single scroll that ..

pitty greddy dont make a twin scroll version for that turbo

    thanks - looking through now

what did you end up with on ur v7

What would the Kinugawa versions stack upto the Greddy like? I have heard a lot of good things about the Kinugawa turbos.

  7. I have an Bugeye STI and run ROTA P1R's 18x9.5 +35 have adjustable suspension and have rolled my guards they sit just over the tyre so no gap when looking at it side on, with with my set up I can take a car load and it doesn't rub at all. I have also taken the car on the track and the wheels feel great. aside from my horrible tyre brand. I run 225/40/18 so quite low profile below is a shot to show you how much room I still have with a bit of guard work.

    Excellent, thanks man.

Yeah Cambelt was done at 98000 k's so will be due in the next 15-20 thousand.

As YoungOne mentioned oil/filter and keep an eye on other areas. I would personally not let the Cambelt run right to the KM just to ensure it isn't getting weak. Maybe replace that in the next 10k and you should be good :D personal preference though!

I think we should do this even if it's raining. Bring an umbrella each.

There is not anywhere really under cover near the coffee cart so will definitely need to take an umbrella and then after awhile move to an underground carpark such as Westpac stadium for some photos ?

(If anyone knows any other undercover places we could go please let me know)

  11. First time ever hitting the track this weekend Manfeild for superlap and came away with a 1.32

Had a few scares with the brakes so this is next on the list before I go anywhere near the track again. Going onto the track I always had the mind set that you need mega power but I have learnt that is definitely not the case.

Not sure at this stage I really need to sort that out though. I'm coming from Karori so I reckon a good place to meet would be somewhere on the Hutt Rd underneath the interchange/overpass? You're coming from the Hutt right?

I am coming from Lower hutt.

I will gas up on the Friday night to save any stopping. yep can meet there if you like or even somewhere like Johnsonville main road so we can jump back onto the motorway? I was thinking of leaving my house at 5.30 so I can be up there by 7ish

Go down Friday. I'm doing the track sessions at chrome as practice for superlap as I'm a season competitor and never driven there.

perfect same as me, will be good to meet a few people put some names to faces. Keep an eye out for me also, im prob the easiest to spot just look for the tattood guy in a wheelchair hahaha

  14. I know the car and I know it is quick however to be completely honest with you I wouldn't touch it. The car gets handed around and is nothing but beaten on. The car had to have a lot of work done on it a couple of months ago and was all completed as a home job.

In my opinion the reason it hasn't been put back on the road is because its known the work that has been completed is masking a larger issue, it has been in the process of "getting cert" for yonks. Why would anyone in the right mind not just get the car a silencer and warrant and sell for way more with that much work and proven dyno power.

After I got ripped off with my car having the problems masked I wouldn't hope that on anyone.
