Well thanks to kami's post on DOBC, we could do it on labour weekend... I've managed to wrangle Sunday off.
Shale and I will be in dunners on friday, then cruising back some time Saturday, in time for a BBQ on Sunday? Maybe cruise/meet then BBQ? God damn has been a long time since I've gone on a cruise!

Leaks, added weight above COG, and things to break. Simply put, I'd like a sunroof, but not enough to have to deal with it in future when the seals start to perish. Having door and boot seals to worry about for the next 50 years are enough for me thanks, I plan on keeping this car for the long haul.

The 4th digit of an applied model code refers to is 'revision', not its sub model. A BD5C is a Rev C BD5. The model specific part of the applied model code is the last 2 digits. STi's for example are ED, so GC8F4ED is a Rev F (or version 5 to impreza owners) 4 door STi. A GC8E58D is a Version 4 5 door wagon WRX. Beast is a BG5C5ED, a B= Legacy, G= second gen wagon, 5=2L 4wd, C= C version or rev C, 5=5door, ED=Limited. So if that BD has an applied model of BD5C4ED, then it is a limited from factory, but you'll find it's actually a BD5C48D, which is standard RS, with standard bumper like this one:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/subaru/auction-794813719.htm
Plate into car jam reveals its vin is BD5-031502, punch that into fast and you find it has an applied model of: BD5C48D, complete with EJ20R, TY752VBCAA and so forth. http://www.carrol.ru/_pages/subaru/index.php?st=40&l=bWFya2V0PT1qYXBhbnx8bWM9PUIxMXx8aGFuZD09SjJ8fGRmPT0xOTk2MDYwMHx8ZHQ9PQ%3D%3D

Cool, a USDM non turbo 2.5 BD with a JDM bumper added, oh and a modified JDM BD. Nice.
The Limited is still a wagon only model though. I wont deny they look damn good though.
Edit: For your reference, here are the MY98 brocures for the BD, and the BG.
And also, the limited was available on the TS Type RB too.
Aw heck, while I'm at it, smashing myths and being semantic.
There's no such thing as an "RS-B". Dun dun duuunnnnn!
Check out those brochures. The RS was the RS-B. You could not get a non bilstein RS from 96 onwards, if you bought an RS, it was still labelled as just an RS, but it came to the same spec as a GT-B. If you wanted a non Bilstein BD turbo, you had to buy the BD GT. Just like the BC's, the BD always had both an RS model and a GT model, right through the years. Only difference was the RS was offered as both manual an auto for the BD, unlike the BC where manual = RS, and auto = GT. But hey, the BD5B and BD5C were badged as an RS-B, so nobody actually cares about this. lol.

Rev D manifolds are great for people wanting to run pinks on their V5/6, cause it is essentially close enough to bolt right on, but as ross mentions, they take top feeds. If going on to a V5/6 though, there is no where to bolt the coil pack, I think that's basically the only difference of consequence. One can always convert to coil on plug (yes wasted spark ECU's can drive coil on plug, refer to my single turbo conversion thread), or you could just get creative with where to put it.

Get one new from Subaru mate.

Assembled short block with new oil cooler and oil pump. No shipping as I'm getting it down here on the dealers normal freight. I think that is trade though, I did mention where I work when I called up for it.
It's literally slap the heads on, and timing gear, and away you rock. This build will literally be half the price of my first PBMS build, and will offer better drivability. It won't be able to handle 25psi on the track like my PBMS block could though (not that I ever had a chance to do that (the 25psi part)), and that build also included things like ARP headstuds and a baffled sump. But this engines going in a GT, not a rally car, so woopty doo. And I'm swapping the baffled sump and ARP studs over anyway.

There is flat passenger side runners (like the single turbo - that's where the imprezaa have their coil packs), and curved passenger side runners. I don't know what revisions these were, but both were used on the Phase-II before they went to the rev D's top feed manifold.

Mitch Amy and I were talking about this in the car today, we were thinking about having a BBQ or something. Cruise to Glenorchy etc, or over the crown for example.
If anyone is familiar with fern hill, you will no doubt have seen out place up greenstone, given the 10 odd subies parked outside at any one time
Dave, you'll have to bring the STi down. Do it fag-et

Man that BP is tidy!
do you have chrome door trim? wondering what model they came in and does beast have sunroofs? On Beast or Blighter? Neither do anyway. Blighter is a Ti type S, the BC3B type S came blacked out from factory, you may note the black handles, lines in the tail lights and garnish, and no chrome strip under the windows. Only chrome was in the bump strips. Makes finding replacement tail lights hard I tell yah, in the end I had to paint some chrome ones black, thankfully that turned out beautifully.

I've never seen it in the extras brochures, but they were on the car from japan.

I can't recall if I've posted these pics or not... The old timers will know my BG, Beast, but the new kid on the block is my BC, Blighter. The last pic will show the different applications these cars have

Here's the promised pics of the block. Ew. Dunno why cyl2 looks mint, and all the others are messed.

Probably not, but sarcasm works a treat.

The table reckons 8.3:1 compression, but I don't know to believe it or not. And yes, v3/4 STi and 20R heads are essentially the same bit of metal, the difference is only what's bolted into them. I'll hit gazzy up on it.
-
Heck yeah, just lean it out with extra boost to burn out that crap.
-
Yup, sorry, another thread. I've been searching all night for this one though, cause I know it's been done, but I can't find ****. Call it mondayitis affecting my judgement...
So I'm buying a V7 EJ207 shortie from subaru, and slapping my 20R heads on it, I need to know the finer points
Are there issues with valves and pistons?
Are there issues with compression ratios?
Anyone know what thickness headgaskets I need?
The heads have been planed once, when they were rebuilt first time, I do not know how much has been taken off (I can't imagine much at all, they were only 100,000k old and died of big end, not head gasket)
Again, sorry for all the new threads and my ineptitude at search. I am continuing my search though.
-
Yeah that's the plan. I whipped the heads off quickly after work today, and ****ing what a manky engine! I could have picked better TBH, but it's slim pickings these days. bores look alright, but I didn't measure anything, piston crowns are literally flaking with carbon build up, damn nana cars... The pistons are dished, and have valve recesses, but I forgot to see if they come up proud of the deck. Block is orangy brown in all the water galleries, I'm now seriously thinking of getting it acid dipped when the block is split, and sending all the bolts away to get cleaned up and coated too.
Tomorrow I'll see what I can achieve, I have a feeling it will be useless for me to measure the piston cc's as is, def need to do that when re-assembled.
-
Staff discounts are awesome, and I have a spare block lined up.
CHUR.
dahahahaha
-
I'm not so sure it would need aftermarket, cast turbo pistons can actually handle a fair bit, only STis run forged, and even then they are only half forged. No, compression is the only issue, and with old legacy 20G heads's I'm under 8.5:1, which is low as ****. Lower than a stock ej20g, and they are good for the ammount of power I want out of this engine (less than an STi)
I must stress again this is a cheap as chips daily driver build, nothing fancy to see here. Just EJ22 because why not, and I've always wanted to see what one would go like.

Are the crank and rods any different? I didn't think they were...

QT meet 26/10/14
in Otago / Southland
Posted
I may as well make this official! The DOBC QT crew were murmouring about having a CS/DOBC meet in QT when kami decided to post up about maybe having one labour weekend. This works out with us nicely, so we're going to meet up on Sunday the 26th Oct.
Rough plan, everyone starts turning up a DOBC HQ around midday Sunday
Once everyone is here, cruise out to Glenorchy and back, photo's at Glenorchy or Wilson bay.
When back from Glenorchy, BBQ at DOBC HQ.
There is lots of floor space and two blow up beds here, along with the guest room, so people from afar needing to crash are invited to.
DOBC HQ can be found on the corner of Caples Place, and Greenstone, up Fernhill, you can't miss the place, there's 10 subies that live here at the moment... We might park some of the fix'n'flics and decrepid down the road to clear up space.
If you need to contact me, my mobile is 021 182 4156.
SEE YOU THERE. Lets make the inaugural QT CS/DOBC meet a good one, and the first of many.
