Should also mention the inconvenience of distance is mitigated by the fact that you can drop off/pick up your car in anytime (e.g. after work/on the weekends).

It's a hike down to Manukau, but I live out west and I still make the trek out to see @Subirex Automotive
If it's any help, my non-subaru owning friends whose opinion I trust, both use A1 Automotive on Portage Rd in New Lynn.

So I think I have finally worked out why I am getting buzzing whenever I have a very low frequency bass signal in a song, it appears the speaker grills on the door card are loose. If I press against them buzz stops and I can see that the grills move a little when I push them. So I assume they are vibrating against the door card during low freq bass.
Anyone dealt with this before? Deciding whether I should pop them off completely and then re-attach them, or maybe just run some silicone around the edge without taking them off?
Is silicone the best thing to use or do I want a glue of some sort?

Took the plunge and bought a second hand dash from Strong for Subaru. Going to install it this weekend with my mate who's a mechanic. Will probs take 5-6 hours
Do you mind if I ask what they charged?
Looking at few second hand cars with banged up dashes so wondering what the cost to replace would be...

All good, didn't mean to imply you didn't know about the issue, more just thinking out loud about what this all means for me:)
-
Sweet, that sounds like sedan springs if it sagged on your 2.0r...came across the issue when looking into pinks for my BH wagon..Just wanted to check the sag didn't have something to do with legacy struts/springs on an outback!

Originally I lowered on Bilsteins with STi pinks with Legacy bumpstops, no issues whatsoever (bar a bit of a saggy rear end)
Forgot to ask about this, was sagginess due to the pinks being sedan springs or because OB is heavier than Legacy?
-
@JGM true, is it only the older EJ25s that have head gasket issues? (starting to get off topic, haha)

It's a 2.5 sadly, would love a 3.0 In an ideal world I will find a 3.0R or a 2.0 GT legacy. Or even a 2.0R...most cheap imports are 2.0i and we already have one of those (wife's car). In all likelihood I would keep the stock rims if I go ahead, will be hard enough to get lowering the car past the wife, nonetheless getting some new rims!
-
Awesome, cheers for the info! Am looking at this as an alternative to picking up a BP legacy as I will know the car history etc..and possibly get a deal on it, so not wanting to do anything excessive beyond making it more like a legacy:)
-
Sweet, so just the struts and bump stops? Saw you guys talking about control arms which made me wonder if the swap wasn't so simple...or is that just because you guys have lowered more than standard legacy struts/springs would and that effects camber?
-
noob question, if you just put OEM suspension from a legacy (and bump stops?), do you need to modify anything else/get it certed?
Wondering about the feasibility of buying my mate's BP Outback that is heading overseas next year and slapping some Bilsteins or standard shocks from a Legacy in it...

yea, I can import one for about 10-11k including shipping, reg etc.
Who would you import it through?
Have looked into direct imports from Japan a bit.

Just heard from my mechanic and it sounds like the rear diff has a problem, which given the cambelt needs to be done too makes it a no go. The search continues!
-
good to know, I've convinced myself to go ahead with an inspection and if that comes through clean I think I will grab it:)
Hilarious thing is that my Wife's car is a silver 2.0i...can guarantee there will be many instances of her trying to get in the wrong car!

Omega, who appear to target tourists. Claim to have full service history...
Only know it's ex-rental through getting the VIR report.
-
Done ~22k km per year on average, which sounds like mostly highway miles by tourists to me (NZ average is 12-14k per year). On a quick google of issues with buying ex-rentals, people seem more concerned with manuals as there is more room for driver error/deliberate thrashing.
-
Yup, cambelt needs to be done, I also own a 2.0i which I recently did the 100k cambelt on, which from memory was 1200.

so the 2.0R, ex-rental has had it's asking price dropped to 3.8k...starting to think harder about it....
-
Is it Onehunga walk/cycle over bridge?
-
Ha,even if the name wasn't in the pic,i got married there so this would have been easy!
-
ah yup, I figured the twin mufflers was the giveaway. Will both have Bilsteins? Have allways (ignorantly) assumed that B-Sports have Bilsteins...
The 2.0R was owned by a rental company for 7 years, so can assume it has been thrashed, but also would have been serviced properly?...current owner has only had it for 12 months.

Tan makes it sounds summery and appropriate for driving to the beach!...cream on the other hand....well....

How do you tell the difference between a 2.0i and 2.0R? Are all B-Sport spec ones 2.0R? The non 04 b-sport one I posted has two exhausts whereas the 05 b-sport has one...
The chassis codes from a VIR report don't match up with anything in here... -

Seen this around before... can't put my finger on where though.
+1 for @sobanoodle advice.
Even if the car was mechanically perfect, the LL Bean would be enough to put me off...!
Photos look like they are taken at Hobonsville point...
You mean you don't like the "cream leather interior"? hahaha.
I could live with it (particularly if it puts others off so I get a deal). If it had fake wood trim and brown leather accents on the steering wheel it would be different story!

wagon or sedan? Please tell me you are joining the wagon mafia?
Having been looking at swagons a lot recently, there is a price soft spot for 04/05 pre-facelift. Assume it's the same for Sedans though can't be sure. Though I have been looking at autos which are much more common than manual. I wonder if you might be best importing direct from Japan since you are after a manual....others will have a better feel for this.
