  1. Looking at JDM brochures and they don't even show them on the V3's so I wonder if they were an optional extra.

Yeah the bumper I replaced looks like the one in your trademe link, but the one I have now is the same bumper, the end cap piece I'm talking about simply sits on top of that lip.

It's confusing though cos here is a version V in japan that has them http://www.todoroki-trading.com/stock/subaru/506-GC8/WRX-STi-VersionV-5.html

I think it looks better without them, in hindsight I should have pulled them off before it was painted.

  2. This Bit: (note that pic isn't of my current car in question)

What versions had these fitted? Reason I ask is that I just had a bumper sprayed and fitted to my V5 and it had the end caps on so I just left them on and they were painted over. The original damaged bumper on the car that I removed didn't have them on but I assumed someone must have just removed them in the past. Now I'm looking at pics of other cars and even original JDM sales brochures and it seems really inconsistent as to which models had them fitted. Were they an option from factory? I'm spewing now cos if they aren't 'meant' to be there and I pull them off I'll have to get the bumper painted again

  3. Does anyone know if there is a difference between GC & GF rear bumpers?

Also is there a difference between the versions? V1/V2, V3/V4, V5/V6

Previous owner of my car backed into something and put a dent/crease in the bumper and i want to replace it and have it sprayed along with my boot lid that has peeling paint (probably from the reversing incident)

There is one on trademe locally but it's off a version 2 so not sure if they are the same..

    Thanks!

  4. Hard to tell from the pic but have you got a Genome off a Legacy Wagon? they have a much longer tip, which would cause the horrible look yours has

If it isn't the Legacy wagon variant, someone must have messed with the hangers/pipe bends as it should bolt straight up to your car. I fitted a Genome axle back fro my old V7 wagon and fitment was perfect

As for sound, I guess that's a personal thing. Have you got anyone else nearby with a Genome that you can compare to? They do tend to sound a little raspier than your typical cannon exhaust, but I quite liked the sound of mine.

  5. Did you have another thread about your engine previous to this? sounds familiar.

I'm guessing he means Zero-Sports ECU - an aggressive tune compared to standard but shouldn't cause engine failure on it's own (I'm sure others on here use that ecu)

I bet something else is going on, what fuel are you running? and standard boost control?

  6. The passenger seat in my V5 STi has an annoying rattle, pretty much all the time while driving (unless someone is sitting in it)

At first I thought it was the seat back rattling so I pulled the seat out of the car to see if I could tighten it but upon further investigation there is play between the seat and the rails (the sliding bits)

If you grab hold of the rail you can rock it very slightly 1-2mm at a guess but enough that the seat can vibrate and rattle..

Has anyone come across this before, or have any suggestions to fix?

    Thanks

  7. I'd still suggest trying another AFM. Anyone local have one you could swap and try? Takes only a few mins to swap. When my v7 was playing up (as I previously mentioned on this thread) I also had a cam sensor fault however it never re-occurred after being cleared. I also didn't have any AFM related faults but a club member could see from data logging that the reading from the AFM were out, changing it made night and day difference, never saw limp mode again

Probably doesn\'t hurt to find out why, it might be pulling boost back due to knock or a broken thingy or something foolish

This, be careful because if the car is puling boost because of knock and you go winding the boost back up, you could cause serious issues. Better to have the car scanned and tested first just to be sure the boost solenoid is your issue.

The boost controller will fix the symptoms but might not fix the underlying problem.

I used to have a V7 sti wagon with similar issues, and like you at first I suspected the boost control so I fitted a GFB atomic and thought all was well as I had normal boost back but then noticed surging, and severe det when I had my foot up it (think of the sound of stones in a tin can) had it scanned by a club member and he diagnosed faulty AFM. New AFM and factory boost control re connected and it was like new

My V5 does the same thing. If I start it up, drive down my gravel road at low speed (20-30km/h) I can feel it surging. One minute later completely gone. Hasn\'t worried me enough to do anything about it.

My V5 sti is the same, interested to see the outcome of the OP\'s issue.

I\'ve only recently bought the car, so new plugs, upper engine and IACV clean and a new AFM are jobs I all have on the to do list so that may help
