  1. picked up the car from @Subirex Automotive, it got some servicing loving and finally removed that noisy bosch044 thats been driving me nuts for oh so long.

what a pleasure it was to drive home :D the AEM 320 is pretty much silent, you only hear a very quiet little high pitch sound when you open the boot but other than that it ain't nothin, not even from passengar seat. Ajay neatly ran the new lines (after removing surge tank etc.) underneath car so nice tidy job too instead of shortcut way i was picturing in my head of just going through the trunk with the old lines haha. Going back next weekend for the exhaust and i think i'll have a car that I'm pretty happy to keep for some time to come. Engine bay looking better now too, will try clean it up during week and take some pics.

Not too sure how the set up the boost as they took my electronic boost controller off . I think I have got wrong setting last dyno , got both electronic boost controller and standard boost solenoid on last dyno .

because they are tuning your factory ecu, which has a very good boost control algorithm anyway and has added benefit of few satety features such as boost limit based on hot intake temp, raditor or oil temp or other bad condition just to name a few.

Don't quote me, but I'm going to blindly say it should be normal.

Same results from installing a Group N trans mount on my car, now I have a very noticeable grinding sound from the box on deceleration. My conclusion = the noise was always there (might be normal, might not be, high chance it could lunch itself soon being a 5 speed), the new solid mounts just transfer it to the chassis and into the cabin more than the soft ones did. Could be the same thing for you?

yep mine too.. engine breaking noise from tranny is quite noticable but not overly terrible. any sound clips of yours @YoungOne

  4. also putting anything like mesh in front of it directly hampers the intercoolesr efficiency as there is less total air moving across all the fins and they flow slightly differently to how it was designed. people will say it makes bugger all difference but theoretically atleast you are blocking a large percentage of the surface area of an object which is supposed to function as air to air cooling

It's not how we identify the turbo, it's what the turbo identifies as. I think it might be a trans or bi turbo who identifies as a twin scroll. Or maybe even turbo-fluid. Not all turbo who identify as fluid have a turbo fluid resevoir, it's just how they feel at a particular part of the rev range.

    Don't judge.

Edit: some of my best friends are turbos.

aaaand turbo of the year award goes to

Be very careful with antilag, if you get it wrong you may well hurt your motor and/or turbo (ask me how I know!).

haha yeah warning noted, i think if anything i may play with my cyclic idle just to get it sounding a bit better when i switch it on, anti lag it self i guess they set it like that for a reason and i probably won't tinker with that.

Installed easy front lip on car, its fake carbon fiber, maybe black will look better but pic below.

Also drilled new holes in plate to fix where it sits.

Im pretty happy with the front end now, still need to fix headlights tho.

there are too many holes on your numberplate bro they are going to mess with the aerodynamics of this vehicle. ideally you should install a roof scoop asap and paint the wheels white to offset this

  8. hey so my car when tuned/setup was with two pumps. in tank fuel pump (unkonwn) and external bosch044. bosch is being removed now and im replacing lift pump with a new unit.

new setup is just 1 pump, in tank. aem 320.

would there be any benefit to setting my new pump for 100% all the time or just leave as default ? from my understanding the default is 33% on cruise, 66% unders ome load and then 100% on WOT, with WOT being probably the only time one needs pump at 100%. bit of mixed info googling around, with many people particularly in american forums suggesting they direct wire their aftermarket pumps to battery bypassing the fuel pump controller, meaning it's at 100% all the time.

also with the different flow characteristics i'm expecting minor changes in fuelling, which it should probably trim by it self? if i want to keep an eye on this out of curiosity + paranoia + being a nerd what is the parameter i should be logging? i'm thinking if its doing a lot of trimming in certain areas then i should just adjust those areas of fuel table so it doesn't have to trim (dangerous me doing it i know, curisous and wanna learn :) )

leading from above, if i do leave the stock settings on new pump then my fuel pressures will be different at different throttle positions meaning fuelling / resulting actual afr will be affected (tuned for bosch044 at 100% vs 33-66% new pump).. or am i actually overthinking this as usual?

oh another noob question guys :

this setup seems super conservative. what sort of parameters do you want to be monitoring (oil temp, coolant temp, afr?) when working on antilag setup. what would you put in for a 'typical' functional setup, and say one that's more for show (popping/shooting flames)?

signed a waiver to get my password and had a really interesting afternoon coming out of my shell reading through all the ecu settings. can really appreciate the things tuners do

I finalised the Cobb AP etune on my WRX today, courtesy of Phil (philr8) at Dynotech Industries in New Plymouth. Very easy process in the end over about a week, and produced results I am happy with from the FA20 with only a Cobb catted j pipe and exhaust (in line what others around the world are getting with a custom tune and these mods: about 280-290whp). The final virtual dyno (green line):

    NQOrLjc.jpg

From what I've read, I'm approaching a wall with the torque as the stock FA20 doesn't like much more than 470Nm, but an intercooler upgrade might help drivability a bit, as I've definitely noticed some issues with heat soak over the last year.

that looks really smooth, bet its a pleasure to drive. what car is this?

Also just remembered there's a youtube video made by some dealer on it.

wow bro that vid was posted in July 2013 are you sure you saw it for sale still start of this year? The k's on vid was 80 odd ks, last carjam froM nov 16 says its on around 117ks just heads up in case you were looking for one under 100ks.

also thats a super enthusiastic sales person ay haha. good luck finding your dream car bro sorry i am not familiar with the owner of this one.

out of curiosity, what were they asking for for this car?

I havnt measured my Rs volume wise. But that seems really high? I've got an externally vented gate and I wouldn't consider my car loud at all, when cruising it's relatively quiet, boosting with the windows up and the gate doesn't even seem loud. Outside is a different story though :P

im looking forward to finally attending a meet (once I can drive again - I'll probably drive before I'm ment to Obviously) have met heaps of clubsub peeps already from various other situations, can't wait to show the Rs off lol, feels like I've been telling people about how awesome its gonna  be for like 6months now ^_ ^

haha yeah its excessively high and only at certain RPM, i wasn't paying enough attention in physics obvs but it's some S*** to do with resonating at certain wavelength/frequency i guess where sound bounces inside cabin and volume goes nuts. if i record it from outside it actually sounds pretty amazing , still loud but not loud enough to be pulled over for.

also will be good to finally see you and your RS running bro, have seen thunda twice at pbms/ajays but she was always asleep!
