Are you running stock end links with your 22mm bar?

Yep - was set on ordering in heavy duty links but Subtech said they usually run factory links without issue so I'm taking a punt

Will be keeping a close eye on them but I snapped steel Whiteline links in my old Legacy so I don't think they'll last long

  2. Picked up the Forester from a full service from Subtech yesterday. Impressed with their attention to detail - from tightening the handbrake to replacing a couple of missing clips in the front bumper. They also noticed the WOF had just run out so took it through a WOF free of charge.

Also had them fit Ferodo DS2500 pads (from Race Brakes) and new rotors to the front and a Whiteline 22mm rear swaybar.

Brakes need a proper bedding in but so far so good. Swaybar has also made a noticeable difference as expected so I'm looking forward to taking it for a good blat. Happy days

  3. Nothing today, but last Sunday I brushed off the motorsport cobwebs and gave the Forester some leadfoot at the MBOP motorkhana and autocross in Tauranga.

    Motorkhana:

    Autocross:

Foz went better than I thought, although the tight slaloms were a handful with the power steering pump not really keeping up. It likes to understeer a lot more than my old legacy wagons but a bigger rear sway bar is on the list.

  4. Send off rear shocks for rebuild - booked in next week

Refresh brakes - new pads + fluid

Basic service - oil and g/box fluid

Fit bigger rear sway bar + end links

Mount fire extinguisher in passenger foot well

  5. Hi team

Just picked up a Forester XT last weekend and it has already been keyed (was parked in a Secure Parking building in town)

Basically all panels on LHS of the car have been keyed, including tailgate and rear bumper

It is insured and I have been given a list of recommended repairers (below) - anyone have any recommendations / horror stories dealing with the below?

    - Bodyworks (AKL central or Ponsonby)

    - Hauraki Panel & Paint (Parnell)

    - Nicholson Panelbeaters

    - Wakefield Panelbeaters

    - Greg Gordon Panelbeaters

    - West Lynn Painters & Panel Beaters

    - Auckland Panel & Paint (big wait time)

    - Colin Waite (big wait time)

    Cheers

    Sam

  6.  McDoof']I just want to know how you ended up getting to the point where you were jumping on the tow bar to try get the engine to turn over? I never would have put that into my " things I might try to get the car to start" bucket. :-)

I got a bit angry one day when it wouldn't start so I rocked around in the drivers seat while holding the steering wheel (and swearing) and heard a "click", so I stepped it up a notch with my foot on the road and eventually it started cranking haha #no8wire #ingenuity

What's happening when you try to start it? A single loud click from the starter motor?

Check the battery terminals are clean and tight. Also check the terminals on the starter motor and any earth cables you can find.

Usually all that will happen is the dash lights will dim slightly when key is turned. If you then rock the car around it will sometimes make a single click or try to crank, and with some more vigorous rocking and a bit of luck it will start cranking and fire up.

On a good day it will turn over with no towbar jumping or in-car rocking needed.

weirdest thread today on CS goes too this one!

yea dont even think the Haynes manuals mention that

I'd say brushes are toast in the starter, does it have to be in gear when your "You-mum-o-lining"?

or yea outside chanch fuel pump is on the fritz / loose wire in the ba-donk-a-donk end / under the seat possibly

    please post a video

I wish I had a video of yesterday's start up, the 30 seconds of hectic towbar jumping would have been a hit on YouTube.

Nah it doesn't have to be in gear. I had the fuel pump replaced last week and that solved one issue (not starting when cranking) but hasn't solved the above issue.

  7. Round two of the Manfield Road and Track series is on tomorrow and I hear that the big right hander at Manfield has a reputation for killing Subaru engines.

I know there are a few members here who have run a bearing there but is it really that bad?

Risky running without a baffled sump and just a 1/2 litre overfill?

  8. Due to the lack of a driveway and a parking spot too far away from a tap my car hasn\'t had a clean since I moved up 8 weeks ago.

Are there any self-service car wash places around? any suggestions short of paying someone to groom it? Given the lack of driveways around town I\'m sure there are some alternatives haha

  9. For anyone interested, I just got the car back from Dave Tunley. Great guy to deal with and pretty quick to make suggestions.

    End result:

-1.28/-1.28 deg front camber (maxed out) and -1.11/1.12 deg rear camber

1.3mm toe out on both front wheels and 1.1mm toe out on the rear wheels

The measurements are spot on left to right, the only difference being .01 deg in rear camber. I\'ve never had an alignment sheet look anything like this

I may have some dunlops at home in that size..I will check at lunch time..

In Palmy but dont might meeting you half way if suitable..

    Cheers

Just checked and i have two dunlop direzza`s in that size with same thread as your tyres . 3mm or there abouts..

    $80 for the pair..

Hey mate I am definitely keen but would need them on Sat morning to get them fitted, any chance you could courier them down?

  11. Hey team,

I\'m frantically looking for a couple of 215/45/17 tyres (ideally a pair but one will do). Failed a WOF on a small slit in one and need to get it through for a recheck before it gets scrutineered for the Mt Vic hillclimb this w/e.

I would buy new but my good pair have 3mm of tread on them (although only a couple of months old) and the diffs are making funny noises as it is without running unevenly worn tyres.

I\'ve tried the wanted classifieds but no luck. Does anyone have a couple that they would sell that are in warrantable condition?

    Cheers,

    Sam

Give Al a call, he is often there in the weekend, so if you ask he is more likely to do it. Just remember he will charge more money for an alignment than a standard place, which is only fair given he is quite an expert when it comes to Subarus.

I have found that the Tony\'s branches in town are all quite receptive to be fair. They have setup my beemer and WRX alignments to suit my requests each time.

To be fair, you don\'t want a massively aggressive alignment for Mt Vic, it\'s a bumpy dangerous road, so anything extreme will probably help encourage your car to try flying.

Fair call, although I am driving a BG wagon so I think it needs a more aggressive alignment (bit of toe out in the rear) to encourage it to swing the back around. Even with mild rear wheel toe out and a 22mm whiteline rear bar on the stiffest setting it still didn\'t hang it out around Ruapuna like I wanted it to, so I think I\'ll go a bit more aggressive again if I can

Dave Tunley @ 294 Taranki Street will also do non-standard alignments.

    /quote]

That\'s the place up by BNT in town? I\'ve been there before and they were great. A good alternative option if the location is more convenient and you already know what you want.

Yes that\'s the one. Dave has a motorsport background and will also be able to give advice.

Cheers Loren, Taranaki st is quite handy to me so might go there

  13. Cool sounds like Macbilt is the place to go. I know roughly what I want but it\'s hard to find a cookie cutter tyre shop that will do it properly. Keen to hear what Al at Macbilt has to say too as I\'m always open to new ideas

I might struggle to get the car anywhere during the week though, does anyone know if they are open on Saturday mornings?

Cheers for the replies, been really helpful
