interesting, I too have an S5 (thanks AVS) and have never heard it cherping myself (untouched) but Leith was saying a month or two ago, one realy hot day it was cherping away. so maybe its something to do with sensors getting hot?

yeah i've always had a feeling when mines randomly chirping away (sorry neighbours) thats its temp related.

  2. i believe 95 is the stated lowest octane by subaru. Going below this risks premature detonation occurring, (fuel explodes via compression before the spark plug demands it too) thus causing some chaos. Not good.

There was a debate about this on another post b4, some guys run 91 in their turb'd legacy's, but i dont see the point of risking it. The minor extra cost is worth it. Plus the small power gain :D

  3. well i happened to be driving my brothers new car (with a EJ20H), boosting home from work. Got to my mates house who i was dropping home. Looked at gauges. Water temp is as high as it can go, just past red. I DROPPED. I had been raping it on a burning engine. Not the best feeling in the world. Opened up the hood, steaming like crazy.

I presumed it was head gaskets plus everything else that could go wrong as of the conditions, as there was not a drop of water left over.

In conclusion, it is not a weak engine!!!! it held up fine!!. All that needed replacing was the radiator hose that had burst. THANK YOU GOD. else there would have been a chunk of my rex fund down the drain haha.

Probably well over 150 C - depends on alot of things tho how much...

Again it depends on which top mount, hot or cold day, how much power are you making lol. But 70% efficiency rating would be a good guess.

150C! woah! i feel an urge to get a WAIC now

  5. talking about air temps... i dont know if you guys will know, but i always wondered. How much does compressing air to like 15psi heat it up by? Then say stock top mount cool that down by? ROUGHLY. i.e the temp of air actually going into the combustion chamber.

Also what power gains would you get from sucking in cold night winter air, from a hot summers day-heatsoaked

and don't thrash it if you've been stuck in traffic i.e. when the engine is heat soaked.

    /quote]

really? interesting. Wont be doing wat i did today again then haha

One of the things that can contribute to detonation is high intake temperatures i.e. on a stinking hot day or when the intercooler is hot from heat soak.

So, you want to have been moving for a little while after sitting for ages in traffic, to let the intercooler and in fact everything under the bonnet cool down a bit.

so i went to nightspeed drag wars for first time last night, they all like idling for like 15mins b4 racing, i.e stuck in traffic. So thats hardly ideal then?? Racing on heatsoaked engines?

did see a guy with a fan on the outside of his front mount tho haha, cheeky

I get about 500km from 50L give or take a few litres. Mixture of highway and city, with the mix leaning more towards highway. v3 wrx, vf22, 13psi, aftermarket plumb back valve, 3" exhaust, pod filter. Otherwise engine is stock. Not too unhappy with that tbh

dammmm! i get like 300kms to a tank in my v4 sti. thats not cool

Over filled my old GC8 gearbox, blew the excess out the breather and made a mess haha. But cant see anything bad will come out of overfilling.

im thinking this happened now, reason 1) its sitting at perfect level now, reason 2) reeks like the fluid after every drive now haha. Sweetttt

Siren volume is dictated by it mounting location and there is never a one volume suits all solution of course. The sirens are extremely loud in most situations but things like engine bay sound deadening, what they are pointing at and if they have gotten water in them will effect this of course. If you want it louder all you need to add is a horn honk relay and this will honk the horn in time with the indicators when the alarm is activated :)

    how much we talking here?
