  1. Ah, so there are no off the shelf replacements that are under like a grand? I have all the satellite trackers in car, thought I might be able to utilize them.

Figured if you could but the windscreen suction cup ones, you could buy a single din one without needed it DIY one.

Change insurer that ridiculous shouldnt go up that much just by losing a no claims bonus.

I did change insurer, I had to go with NAC as could no longer be with AMI. Which is fair enough seeing i\'m under 25 with a turbo vehicle.

It will be 50% off that in due course though.

  3. It was written off.

It was going to cost $9450 to repair.

I will see if I can get the damage assessment but pretty much:

$2450 ish for a front cut

    $550 ish for the rail

$3500 ish Labour (involves engine being pulled to access rail)

    $1500 ish paint

    +10% margin

VERY rough estimates off the top of my head. So it was entirely possible to repair, however the labour was the killer.

Got a new one anyway, get it on Monday. But my insurance went from $17.50 a fortnight to $65 :/

  4. Hi All,

My vehicle is at the repairer, and they are waiting for Subaru to get back to them r.e a chassis rail, be it repair or replace.

What has happened is that the front left (passengers) chassis rail has twisted 6" from the front. (from crashing into a tree square on, so airbags didn\'t go off)

Pretty much if Subaru says it can be repaired, then I get my car back.

If Subaru says no, it needs to be replaced with a new one, then my vehicle will be written off. (because the cost of removing engine and replacing chassis rail + alloy bonnet and entire front will cost more than the insured value)

The vehicle is a 2001 Subaru Legacy B4 Revision D (so the alloy front)

Has anyone had this situation before, and know what Subaru will say? As I am impatient.

Dude that sucks, did the airbags go off or no not, assuming not?

Air bags didn\'t go off, repairer said he has seen poles push the engine back thru the firewall if the impact is in the middle, but because the airbag sensors are to the very ends of the frontal impact bar, they aren\'t touched, so the air bags don\'t go off.

Front has pushed radiator in which has pushed back fans and cracked the cam cover, being taken to repairer tomorrow, really don\'t want it to be written off.

I drove it in that state to the destination another 6 k\'s away, engine and alignment were fine once we removed the radiator fan out of the way. Just drove with the AC fan on and bumper in back seat. The front impact rail and rail below it are damaged. I hope that doesn\'t mean write off as I can\'t find any other Manual Revision D\'s

Our BH had an almost identical impact and was repaired .( also AMI )

Yeah I saw it today at the repairer, they reckon $7000 to fix ($2500 for front cut being alloy, labour etc) but if the chassis rails are bent then she\'s all over.
