  1. Hey Guys, Got a 2004 MY05 (BL?) Legacy. It's just coming up to 100,000km and I thought for a mid-life crisis present I'd get the shocks reconditioned. Has anyone done this before? Any advice/suggestions? Approximate cost? The car is driving OK but I'm presuming the shocks are probably a bit worn at the 100km mark. Where is the best place to take the car in Wellington? Cheers, Eddie
  2. Fixed (at least for now) the trip computer/clock.
  3. Well, I got round to doing this eventually. Pulled the damn thing out. I'd get it going with the PCB out of the casing, and then when I put it all back together again, it'd stop working :-\ I'm not sure what I've done to fix it (I basically just went over every solder joint that seemed slightly suspect, reflowing the solder), but it seems to be working now (all back together in the car!) So I guess the test now is how long it lasts for. I've somehow broken/stopped the red light (LED?) in the cubby hole from working in the process though. I'm not too fussed about it!
  4. Cheers for the reply, but I'm pretty sure that one doesn't have the remote buttons on it (which I'm after). Cheers, Eddie
  5. Hey guys, After a spare transponder key/remote for my Subaru Legacy 2004 GT. Trying to save some coin on the $600 or so Subaru want for it. Had a look at these ones on aliexpress: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/500700/200438805-429873674/Subaru-Remote-Key-3button-315mhz.html http://www.aliexpress.com/store/500700/200438805-422921939/Subaru-3button-Remote-Key-433mhz.html But not sure if I'd need the 315MHz version or the 433MHz version. Does anyone know? Cheers, Eddie
  6. You could try buying one of the ones off Dealextreme? They have lots of cool stuff, here is one of the OBDII scanners they do: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/obdii-usb-car-diagnostic-cable-black-blue-orange-dc-12v-42827 Prices are in USD, but exchange rate is really good at the moment. Shipping is free! I've bought quite a few things off DX, sometimes the quality isn't quite there but is usually OK for the purpose. Sorry to hijack your thread, but do you know if my 2004 Legacy GT-B will support OBDII ?
  7. Well, it's a NZ new Legacy so I'm tossing up between calling Subaru or just ripping it out myself and re-soldering any joints that look dry. However I haven't managed to get it out of the dash yet (but haven't spent a lot of time trying, either). My weekends at the moment are being taken up by snowboarding...
  8. By "just pops out of the dash" do you mean just pull on it?
  9. Cheers guys. What is the easiest way to get this out of the dash (MY05 Legacy)? Eddie
  10. Oh and what actually goes wrong with them typically? (What do they repair?) Reason I ask, as I'm wondering if it's better going down the repair/replace route
  11. Thanks. Are these digitally signed to the rest of the @#$@#$% car like everything else? Or can I just whip one out of a wrecked legacy?
  12. The clock/trip computer (in the dash) of my 2004 MY05 Legacy only works intermittently. It seems that hitting it sometimes makes it work... Any ideas what's wrong and how to fix? Cheers, Eddie
  13. Bugger. Was hoping to be able to do it for $800 or under. I guess I'll invest in a brick Thanks for the help guys Eddie
  14. Thanks for the reply Boostin, very informative. Few questions though: 1) Why do you reckon the ECU would need replacing? The reason I ask, is that if I were Subaru, it would seem more cost effective to me to make all the ECUs with the appropriate inputs/connections for cruise control if a model has it as a factory option. That way you can mass produce 10M units of one rather than 5M of x and 5M of y. Of course if you're sure there are two different ECUs (one with CC support, one without) then I guess I'm willing to eat my shorts. 2) I guess the same question goes for the wiring harness - again, it would seem more sensible just to leave some connections "unplugged" rather than produce two different harnesses. 3) Does the Body Control Unit contain functionality for cruise control? I thought that was for central locking, windows, courtesy lights etc 4) What do you mean by dash cluster? 5) Why do you think the keys might need replacing? Any idea on approximate price I'd expect to pay for above parts from a wrecker? PS don't want to go the aftermarket route anyway. Cheers, Eddie
  15. Right, that doesn't surprise me that you got an expensive quote ;D I'm guessing they were quoting you for obtaining new parts from Subaru Japan - and the labour costs probably werent the cheapest either. I'm thinking along the lines of "Find a wrecked car with the parts I need, rip them out & install". I guess my main concern is whether the computer in my car would be compatible with it or not.
  16. What was the main cost associated with retrofitting it (assuming you can find a donor car with suitable parts)?
  17. Hi Guys, I've just recently bought a manual BL Legacy Sedan (MY05? It's 2004) Anyway, it's an awesome car but I really wish it had cruise control. Is it possible to retrofit this (perhaps from another MY05 or an MY06)? Has anyone done this? If possible, can someone help me out with a parts list and an approximate cost? Cheers, Eddie
  18. Hey, Can anyone recommend a good, cheap panel beater in central Wellington? Cheers, Eddie
  19. Hi, I'm looking at buying a manual, Legacy GT-B sedan. Would like a car with less than 80,000km on the clock. What ball-park should I expect to pay? Cheers, Eddie Mods: Feel free to move this if there is a more appropriate forum (not that you need my permission )
