Petrol, most guys pour it into a wash bowl and have a couple of litres just sitting there- vapour coming off all the time

Brakleen, yes lots more expensive (I use around 8 cans per engine build) but lots safer

Ichi, have you heard of the industrial solvent called Zapp Wash? It's basically brake clean but renamed and alot cheaper, Marketing Chemicals distribute it. 20L, 60L or 205L containers, we use sh!tloads of it at work great stuff.

  2. In all seriousness, might pay to put a bit of silicon grease around the sealing lip so it doesn't burn out upon first start up, some people say otherwise but it's how I've always done it.

And did you check the sealing area on the rear of the crank where the sealing lip mates against? If it's too badly worn you may need to put a wear sleeve on.

  3. My 94 BC5 started running on three or two cylinders the other day, made it back to work after a 20 minute drive, and now it won't start at all. I've pulled a couple of spark plugs and checked for spark and there's none on those two (havn't checked all cylinders).

Is there some relay or fuse which controls the ignition side of things? Or any other ideas why it would suddenly drop a few cylinders and now only be firing on one or none?

I've constantly had coil problems with this one and I'm looking at doing a coil conversion to the V3 style wasted spark, but it's parked at work so need to get it home and running first.

thanks for the pic that helped heaps !

unfortunately i still have mine connected so no idea why it has such a strong fuel smell . hopefully i can get it sorted/looked at on wednesday when i take it up to warkworth for a dyno/checkup .

Yeah Kent should be able to tell you what's what he's clued up on Subies. I'm next door here in Wellsford.

  5. Its put there by Subaru to comply with emission laws overseas (not here from what I understand). Basically filters the air venting out of the fuel tank to reduce fuel vapours being let out into the atmosphere. Often people remove it to free up more space and its kinda regarded as unnecessary. No performance increase, just looks and practicality, although as a result sometimes you'll notice a strong smell of fuel when you first start your car in the morning after it's been sitting for a while or on a hot day.
