Don't take it to a SUBARU workshop (unless you have just won lotto), take it to a REAL mechanic.... Try Simon at Automotive design in Grey ST (around 130ish Grey st), he's trained on Subaru's and does excellent work (resonable rates too).
If your tyres are slipping, then it's probably your diff (changed any fluids recently?), CV's wouldnt do this, they just make clicking noises...

It's still american...so, it'll still handle like shit, get crap milage and be passed by most japanese vehicles worth 1/10th of it's sticker price...

I think you will find that subaru wanted a better, more ridgid part and decided to make it in alloy so they could 'beef it up' and keep weight down.
Obviously, as many of you have stated, Subaru did this (spent sh1tloads of time and money , tooling for production etc...) for no reason at all... :

I would say, your best bet at improving handling would be to make it AWD...

Seen a nice one already, JDM rims, coilovers, zorst, all in a mint body with 90,000km's on it for $11,900...
White, obviously, even has a set of the STI legacy seats in it...
All it'd need is 8 inch wide rims, some 235's and a nice big turbo...

If it's important, you call; it's faster, more precise and the most accurate form of communication.

It's real simple really:
When they fail you on a belt, just tell them "Damn, i just replaced the original with this one from the wreckers...ok, i'll take it home and fit the original back in".
Then, just get a 2nd hand one fitted and your all good, cause they can't knock back an 'original' one if it's up to spec...

Same; 10 years, and 5 subarus with various amounts of km's at time of purchase (including a GT Legacy that had done 160,000km when i got it).
1990 GT legacy (Auto) shat the centre diff, which then buggered the front diff, at around 170,000km. Brought at 105,000km Sold at 180,000km.
1995 STI: no problems up to 130,000km (when it was stolen)... Brought at 103,000km.
1997 WRX wagon: no problems (but it did only have 80,000km on it when i brought it). Sold at 99,000km.
1996 Legacy GT: Gearbox was a bit rough going into 2nd, and AFM playing up too (this is at 190,000km) Sold at 195,000km.
2002 Spec C: Alternator quite on the day i drove it home, otherwise, no issues (again, had only done 60,000km when i got it). Sold at 124,000km

Well, seeing as i'm waaayyy above the average, i figure i'll make the call. And, seeing as the people who set the laws/limits do so based on the average, they're not really even aimed at me, are they... ;D
