yea i hear what your saying ,ive done it to my V1, i just dont rekn its that bad/hard or even that expensive yet theres a few on here that seem dead against it ???

    i]like the WRX is a pimple on the STi's face ;D ;D[/i]

yea i guess cause its so cheap and easy to do then it must be bad or gonna blow your engine, lol.

DPI- we have already established that WRXTAC didnt literally mean or expect "sti power".

    No, you didn't.

You just said he didn't (contrary to what he posted) so it agrees with your opinion.

Mod a WRX, or STI, or Legacy all you like, don't bother me, i was just trying to save him some coin in the long run...

Serves me right for trying i guess...

    Ok, get ya...

He's gonna fit cheap parts, wind the boost up and it'll go bang... ::)

do you ever accept someone elses point of view? ever?

    any why always so negative

TBH, I didn’t think giving my opinion on what I though would be the best course of action for a club member would be perceived as negative…

And, if you look through my posts you’ll notice that I am all for people who want to mod wrx’s (a differing opinion to mine).

late last year i sold my 1996 wrx v2 for 8g.

So either a)you have a ****ter or b)you arent prepared to wait until the right buyer comes along.

I saw a few STis around for not much more than that at the time.

I agree with DPI. The money difference between the two is not that much.....and the cost to improve your performance to anywhere close to STi level will cost almost as much.

I reckon you could upgrade to an STi of equivalent year for like 2.5G all up.

Well worth it when you consider all the kit you get.

    See, he gets it…

    i dont think he does.

dpi i have already proved that this mod is perfectly safe and reliable as have many others. experience once again.

    anyway im over this thread.

By posting this comment, are you being any more tolerant of my opinion than I am of yours?

Funky, his original post SAID he wanted to do a mod that would give his WRX “STI POWER”…

Why am I such an idiot for taking this literally?

Personally, I think if he DID spend only $500 on the parts to ‘sti’ his wrx, then it would either blow up, or not end up with sti power….and, yes that IS my opinion.

You guys won’t accept MY opinion, clearly but I’m not devastated by that…

What, nervously, just in case it's a real one and EAT's ya... ;D

only if it gota SPEC C sticker and then i'd still prolly smoke it and they will wonder why someone wasted all that time on a ****ty old hx.... when they could have gone out and got a sti (and still lose)

I soooo wish i could have lined the Spec c up against your wrx... :P

  4.  driftrex']

you keep missing the point imo..

he just wants what he has got.. a WRX to go like a better WRX. not an STI

for close to $500 he can do it.. quite simply with out going nuts on kw and breaking stuff.

selling his car and buying an STI would probably cost him a lot more, and would most likely go faster - but refer to the first two lines.

modifcation is rarely about weighing up the ecomonic returns on your inverstment regardless of what you do and where you start - lets face it.

yea i think you and i are on the same page funky.

this guy never said he wanted to make his wrx into an sti, he just wants a little more power, im not sure why you guys keep comparing a slightly modified wrx to a standard sti.

    No, your missing the point:

    Hey guys,

I have heard of a number of V3/4 wrx owners carrying out an b]"sti power uprgade"[/b] by adding the orange afm, yellow injectors, turbo and ecu.

I have a V2 WRX with a td04, non sti ecu, grey injectors and green afm... I am wanting to carry out a similar upgrade, and I am wondering what i need to do?

    Thanks

What i'm saying is (and i don't think he CAN have STI performance out of the WRX for $500), the money he's gonna spend to mod his WRX to this STI upgrade level is probably going to be around the price difference between his WRX and an STI.

So, why not sell and buy the STI...

If he REALLY doesn't have the money for an STI (once he sells the wrx), then he REALLY doesn't have the money to mod the WRX...get it?

  5. It comes down to bang for buck...

Usually, the higher spec factory car will give cheaper HP than the lower spec one you poured shit loads into...

I guarantee the factory gets a better deal on it's turbos, bigger injectors, forged pistons etc than you can...

NOTHING wrong with modding a WRX. But, if it costs more to get it to STI level than an STI, then why not get the STI and you'll have a higher starting point when you mod that...

I owned a mint V2 STI, nice and quick, handled like a dream, all round great car. Cost $16,000.

Also had a V3 WRX hatch which i got for $12,000 (both of these were years ago). I fitted a better exhaust to the wagon, a VF22 and Tein coilovers...

End result, very similar acceleration and power, very similar handling, almost exact money...

But i'd rather be in the STI, cause it's an STI and has much better appeal and resale value...

Talked to Mr mechanic man today and he said that in order to remove the air pockets the coolant system needs to be "vacuumed" out, obviously not with your vax though - a special piece of equipment, the reason the air is in there in the first place might be from buggerd head gasket or waterpump or perhaps its just there because it is lol, thats answered my questions, i hope it answers some of you other guys questions too.

That's a suprise, a mechanic hinting to a headgasket needin to be fixed...ha ha...

    explain?

    here 'tis

    Again, bad photoshop...

Well, for starter, when you introduce a new element to a lower res original (which this looks like) you get little faults showing up called artefacts. You can see some around HIS whole body, bit like a shimmer...

Also, gaze between his legs...ha ha, and you'll note that the drivers left arm does NOT exit the window anymore...yet it clearly was as he was holding the roof...

His arm has been removed when the guy on top was added.

Also, the power lines look to have disapeared between the legs...

  8. Actually, a democracy doesn't mean you have freedoms, or in fact have a say...

In a democracy, the largest block, or majority blocks of voters get to instal their choice of dictator and everyone else gets no say.

In a dictatorship, everyone gets no say...

Sounds like a pretty worthwhile mod for the money... i might have to do that (td05/ecu) It would keep me entertained until i have the money to upgrade to a proper sti.. its a hard decision lol

    /quote]

it is a worthwhile mod, i dont care what anyone else says lol, i have had my wrx for 3 years now, was on the sti gear for at least a year of that but i have always run 15psi since day one, never had any engine issues at all dont know what some of these guys are on about, still on my wrx's original engine.

just to give you an idea, my wrx with the td05 and sti-ra ecu was producing 167kw (dynoed) at the wheels on 15psi (perfectly safe). id say thats a pretty decent increase. and only other mods at the time was exhaust.

next thing someone will be telling me to sell my wrx and buy an sti ::)

You should so buy an STI... :D

  10. Don't miss the point i was making people: i'm NOT baggin doing mods to a WRX, or saying whether a modded wrx is better than an STI...

I'm pointing out that the guy in question says he doesn't have a lot of spare coin...

It's all well and good telling him to fit this TURBO and that LINK ECU and you'll p1ss all over STI's, but the main point is, he doesn't have the cash to do this.

I'm saying, don't advise him to pour money into a wrx to get a half arsed STI for more money than a genuine 1 would cost...

  11.  smokn4']

yea i see that this is the way to go... but out of interest, what kind of afm and injectors do v2 sti's run?

i think they run a green sticker with they greys on the V2,

but nevamind what everyone else rekns bro you shud jus do it, i have makes the cars run a sh!t load faster and theres nothing better than pulling up next to a 'GENUINE STi'

in your rex then wiping your ar$e with his face when you leave them at the lights

    ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

    they look like this >>> :-[ :- :-[

u]( could also be drivers error but ill just assume my wrx is faster than a sti)[/u]

    i do it in my V1 WRX alot :P :P :P :P

    WRX = FTW ;)

Shame you never lined MY STI up...that would have made you think twice... :P

    [quote name='driftrex said:

i can tell you it would cost you less than $500 to upgrade yours, my turbo and ecu was $350. and you will notice a huge difference in power.

    /quote]

there you go trent.. looks like turbo and ecu and your away laughing :) for $300-$500 bucks cud be the funnest wee mod you can do.

A bet you in terms of everyone "upgrading" kw for $$ the wrx to sti on a v1/2 would be the most value by far.

I owned a Mint V2 STI and also a V3 WRX; i'd be very, very suprised if you could spend $350 on a WRX and make it go like my V2 STI...

    Pipe dreams and wasted money.

People on here advising young guys (who don't have money to waste) to p1ss away their hard earned cash on making a silk purse out of a sow's ear should be ashamed...

I don't care how many 'mates', or 'fiends friend's' have made their WRX into an STI killer... ::) It is very, very simple: An STI (and it's level of performance) Will always be cheaper to obtain by buying one than turning a WRX into one.

I'm not knocking anyone who mods their WRX, but, please don't advise a novice Subaru enthusiast to 'make his/her WRX into an STI' as a cheap option...IT'S NOT!

As to a reliable STI turbo and ecu combo for $350...where you getting this McDonalds?
