  1. I know this problem has been discussed a few times - especially in other forums I fitted a aftermarked panasonic unit and the Fm reception is crap.! I read that there is fm amplifier which need power - This is supposed to be supplied by pin 14 on the connector - But my original connector doesn\'t have anything connecting to pin 14! The original unit in my legacy was a kenwood unit - Was a bit weird as it had two connectors (male and female) for the antenna. The antenna is a rear windows heater based one - goes into a small metal box (marked clarion (?amplifier)) and then at the front gives out a male and a female connector. This unit which i thought was the booster doesn\'t have any power input - just the two inputs from the window and gives out two coaxial cables which eventually becomes a male and female connector Anyone come across this problem? Is there another wire I should feed power to? Or is this the best reception I\'ll get? thanks
  2. Hi Lots of people on the web say that the cheap flashing stuff starts to smell bad and release nasty fumes. Anyone had experience with this? thanks
  3. I'm going to install some sound deadening material (qmat or dynamat) to my doors and trunk. Should I a. Install some behind the speaker for better resonance b. Apply some for the floor and roof - I think the floor already has some sound deadening stuff?? Anyone actually installed this stuff in a legacy? Any advice? thanks
  4. Hi I have a subaru legacy 2000. I've redone the audio system with a new pioneer amp and speakers. I was wondering if it was worth while putting in some sound deadening material - i.e dynamat , Q mat etc.. I noticed there was some ?? sound deadening material on the floors. Thought I'd get some on the boot and doors and maybe roof. Any thoughts? There's a lot of road noise when driving on the highway. thanks
  5. Hi I have a legacy 2000 with monsoons around the doors. Just wondering what sort of roof rack i need to get (i.e. mount) thanks
  6. Hi i was wondering if you could fit a 2003 model steering wheel onto a 2000 legacy? I want to try to use the steering wheel buttons on the 2003 wheel thanks
  7. The ones on the sides are the screws that are damaged.
  8. Hi I have a 2000 legacy. I was thinking of fixing a wired steering remote. I was wondering if the legacy clock spring has any unused wires i.e wires i can use to fit my remote to. I need 2 wires to get the job done. I know 2 wires are used for the horn and 3 for the airbag. I can remove my steering airbag as some guy before me has damaged the bolts. The only way of removing is to cut it off and fix a new one. I don't want to do that unless i can fit the remote thanks!
  9. I'm want to get a reversing camera (don't need a screen). theres a few on trade me. Can anyone recommend one?
  10. Think my RCA are pretty decent. they seem to have good insulation. The whine is coming from my speakers - I've checked it out and confirmed it. Thought moving the RCA cables away from the power would do the job but it didn;t. Have a better earth connection now but still getting the whine. Will try to sandpaper the paint and see if that works. Other wise i'm going to be stuck with a whine!
  11. I've moved the RCA cables and rewired the the amp. Still getting a alternator whine. I've fixed the ground to a bolt near the rear seat. I haven''t sand papered the paint yet will try that as well.
  12. Hi I know i'm asking too many questions now. But i will put up pics of my new install This is what i installed Pioneer GM 6200F 4 channel amp (2nd hand) Pioneer Pioneer TSD-1720C - 17 inch speakers with tweeters Panasonic head unit (has 2 pre- outs and was cheap !) New wiring for all speakers For power I got a 4ga cable from the battery into the passenger side. Then a 10ga from there to the amp which is under the passenger front seat (BIG mistake - I''ll be rewiring this so its going to move to the boot) The ground wire is 10ga secured to one of the bolts which holds the seat. The sound quality is excellent. Very smooth bass. BUT the problem is i get a whining noise - worse on acceleration! So its a alternator whine (goes of when the stereo is muted). Not sure what exactly to do (first) 1. Better ground connection 2. my RCA cables do run in parrallell with my power wire - could this cause a alternator whine?\ 3. Install a ground loop isolator?? Advice would much appreciated Promise will put up pics of my install!
  13. I've always struggled with crimping I have a cheap crimping tool - trying to crimp the covered (blue, red, yellow) crimp ends. The wire always seems to be lose! any advice on how to crimp properly? thanks
  14. I'm installing 6.5 inch pioneer speakers with tweeter in front. I've already bought these spacers (6.5inch) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=348535494 Not to sound stupid (which I am) but which way around do i install them? I haven't taken by door panels down yet but planning on starting the project on saturday. Any help on how to install them would be great!! thanks
