  1. Hey all, I have a '95 TT Wagon and one of the rear shocks is leaking. I understand it's better that I replace both shocks on the back and that's fine. I spoke to my mechanic and he said $190 for munroes each fitted and $400 each for bilsteins each fitted. I didn't realise they were this much! Is this a good price? Or am I better off spending a couple hundred more and get some adjustables?
  2. Do you know would happen if you removed the BBoD and removed the exhaust change valve? Would the ECU have a wee cry?
  3. Yeah I'm not really going to go mucking around too much, want to keep it pretty standard. TBH once your out of first gear and high enough in the rev range the wagon pulls very hard, and as long as when you change gear it stays boosting under the secondary turbo. I thought that perhaps if the motor goes I might look at doing a single turbo conversion, or modding the twin turbo setup to work better.
  4. That makes sense joker... thanks for that, understand now. DOn't understand why Subaru did it though! ;D So in essence to fix the problem would be when the secondary turbo is starting to spool, instead of the boost bleeding off, would be to redirect it into the pressure side along with the primary turbo so there is no change over.
  5. Exhaust change over valve... Right. And BBOD... So the exhaust only gets channelled to 1 turbo at a time... and that's why there is VOD, during the change over? So theoritically if you got rid of the BBOD and the exhaust change over valve so exhaust was getting channelled to both turbos at the same time you would get rid of VOD? What about (thinking out loud here) if you jammed the exhaust change over valve to run the big turbo only and put a stick in the small turbo to stop it spinning and ditched the BBOD? Cause the secondry turbo seems to haul the wagon along quite nicely.
  6. So obviously you can't remove the ECU control? Does the ECU need to have a say in the turbo? What would happen if you just ran a hose from the turbo to the wastegate (like a normal turbo) and ran them both on wastegate spring? Would this mean that the turbos would then just spool up as soon as they were able to? Sorry if this makes no sense...
  7. Thanks for that... confusing looking system
  8. Hey all, Just been reading a bit and haven't found what I am looking for. How do the turbo's on the twin turbos work? What I mean is does the ecu control them? I know on some turbos all they have is a hose from the turbo to the waste gate, and they just spoolup when there is enough exhaust gas, and if you want to control the boost you tap that hose. Some have like a solinoid that's ecu controlled to control the turbo. Can you do the same thing to both turbos on the Legacy motor, just have a hose running from the turbo to the wastegate so once enough exhaust gas is passing through it the turbo spools. Or will this cause all sorts of problems? Hope this all makes sense...
  9. Well after having a frost today I got to use the button! Worked very well! Window defrosted much quicker then normal!
  10. Seems logical... Would be a bit of a strange thing to happen from factory.
  11. Nice vid! Is it normal for the water to squirt out though?
  12. Seriously?? Man I could have used this when we had the big frosts over winter :-\ Well I'll know for next winter
  13. 2 questions... On my '95 TT SW is it normal when you accelerate for water to come out of the rear washer and to squirt up on to the rear window? Seems that gravity or some magic forces are causing this, just not to sure if this is normal. Washer works perfectly fine otherwise. ALso I have a switch on the center consul by the handbrake that looks like a windscreen wiper and some heat waves coming up on it? Have no idea what it does, anyone?
  14. Pics would be awesome. Been toying with the idea of keeping my legacy and doing a few "Subaru" upgrades, BP multi spoke wheels, 4/2 pot calipers, WRX seats. Partner has decided that she loves our Legacy and not sure she can part with it now...
  15. Just had a look at the filter. Seems to be nice and clean, although the hose clamps on the pipe between the AFM and intake, and the intercooler and turbos weren't particualry tight. Tightened them up nice and tight, so here's hoping that might be some of the issue... Anyone have any pointers about doing the sparkplags?
  16. Absolutely nothing... Engine is still 100% original. Oh I did put a new battery and alternator in it... But I could imagine they wouldn't do anything?
  17. When I first bought my car I was getting around 9L per 100K, now it's more then 11.1K, this in the space of a year. Could it have something to do with all the silt and dust floating around Christchurch? I haven't even opened up the air filter box...
  18. Anyone have a pic of a 95 BG Wagon with late model 4th gen BP/BL multi spoke mags on it?
  19. But you would expect black smoke from running to rich? Going to change plugs, filter and do oil/filter change and see if that makes any difference. Is there anyway of telling the AFM is problematic?
  20. Doesn't matter where I drive, I still can't get over 400k's out of a tank :-[ And that's being super careful...
  21. Engine has done 180k, but no odd sounds, no smoke, boosts healthy etc. I don't thrash my car, I drive very conservatively. Like I said the car is completely bog standard and that's the way I intend on keeping it... I always run 98 octaine in it when i can as well...
  22. I'm lucky to get 380km!!! Think something is wrong ???
  23. Right looking for some real world mileage figures, I know the "factory" mileage that Subaru quotes, but we all know these aren't always correct. Just done a long trip to the coast and for 350km I used approx 39L of 98, so about 11.1L per 100K. I have a 95 tt wagon with absolutely no mods, small hole in the very rear of the exhaust (if that makes a difference) and i wasn't pushing it, driving conservatively. I thought the petrol consumption was quite high... When I purchased the car over a year ago I'm sure I was getting better then 11.1L per 100k around town, so should be better on open roads? I have been doing regular oil/filter changes, although haven't changed the sparkplugs or filter. Car is not smoking or anything. Could any of these things be causing the mileage to be changing? Also would a completely factory STI/WRX SW be more fuel effecient then a TT Legacy SW? I'm assuming only having 1 turbo and being a smaller car the STI/WRX would have better mileage?
