  1. Somewhere between enough and not enough. It honestly depends on the car. In my Impreza, it can be up to 10L when it's desperate, and comes on when there's still a good 15L+ left (quarter tank). Legacy, comes on at a quarter tank and will go on solid right as it runs out of fuel in the middle of an intersection. It's insanely variable. Has come on at a third tank before, and often flashes on and off through the last quarter.

  2. Which is why the BK threw me. Also means he's got a TT, and we all know how fussy those are.

Thinking about it, Drunkenmonkey has/had a Kakimoto muffler that bolts straight on to the factory sh*t. Chrisjunkie was running it for a while, and despite being loud, it sounded bawse.

  3. Bolting a proper muffler is not hard, if it's designed to fit up to the facto stuff. Size, brand, design, materials used all affect the rumble.

If you've got a BK, I'm assuming it's a USDM non-turbo...which makes me scratch my head. What are the details exactly? If it IS an N/A then don't even hope for the rumble without $$$ ;) If it's turbo, your rumble will be different to the WRX and single-turbo Legacy sound.

Best result IMO is to save up and get a proper exhaust on. The cheap no-name fart cannons just add fart without anything extra - whereas if you get a well-designed exhaust including midpipe and axleback, you will likely get better flow (and hence less restriction), resulting in a bit more balls up front as well as a mellower, satisfying rumble that doesn't get all nasal on the motorway and cause you to fail your WOF.

Or, if you just want to get the sound, take it to a muffler shop. I stand by the full exhaust system theory myself though, the only gripe I have is WHY DO TURBO BOLTS HAVE TO HATE ME SO MUCH, but that's a story for another knuckle-busting, blood-loss-filled day of misery and snapped studs.

  4. I imagine many people are feeling the pain. Either it's 'Oh, I have AWD I'm sweeeeEEEEE- WTF I AM SIDEWAYS IN MY OWN DRIVEWAY AND VERY STUCK' or 'Wheeeeee around and around and around and ar-DOOF. FFFUUUUUU-...'

Nothing would get me to do that when it was snowing/icing/being frozen in AKL. RE-11 say no :(

Hahah that's ur version of unmodified????

Way will u consider modified then lol

By my estimate that list u rattled is fairly impressive modified lol

Not really ;D The ECU is out of the sedan version, same year. Original engine died to death so we replaced it with the WRX version of the same thing because there were no Leggy motors in stock. It came with a TD04 instead of a VF10.

The modifications going on are a bit more serious. If she hits 180kW in the future, I will die happy :) Not on the current setip though. It's far too rangiSHALE. :P

    BROFIST.

135kw is not bad at all on ur old BF GT shale..

think i saw 145 (or 149) on a 2001 BH at the last dyno day...

    have u modded it?

my old 1990 BF only managed to crack 119kw shamefully lol.. had 187km on odo...

Frankie's largely unmodified. She's got a version 1/2 WRX motor and RS-RA ECU, running a TD04 and somewhat ghetto'd up factory exhaust. There's a VF8, siamese downpipe, Fujitsubo axleback and new midpipe waiting for her though, eventually a 6S ECU conversion with yellow injectors and a more capable turbo. It's not a remarkable car, but I sure do miss driving it...it's a massive sack of fun :D

  8. Same sorta theme as to why I have my Legacy. Old school, but super comfy and she's so rugged you don't mind throwing crap (including gearboxes, engines and cranes) at the boot ;D When she runs, she makes a whole 135kW and it feels absolutely beastly given the gearbox doesn't know whether it's arthur or martha ;) Is it fast? Hell naw. Is it charasmatic? Amongst the finest!

Full leather BE/BH Legacys are proper cruisers, AND dem Bilsteins. Mmmmmmm handling. Gotta admit, they look and sound very sexy too.

  9. It's not really a pen!s competition though, and not about just power. There's also torque, driveablility, handling, reliability and your genuine rapport with the car. Doesn't matter if it's not gutsy as fack if you actually love it. Especially if you're not racing...just carting the whanau around, towing a trailer every now and again, lugging gear around, going on the occasional cruise, getting sh!tty with the idiot going 70 on the open road and 110 up the passing lanes...

All Subarus have their uses. Sure there are be-all-and-end-all models, but what if that's not what you want or need? ;D Trust me, a Legacy is still a great car because there's no real lack of power, and yet, FEATURES. COMFORT. HANDLING. CLASS. Why get rid of it? ;)

  10. Latest STi is 11 ;) Ver10 is still GDB.

And amen to that. The 205 is strong and robust, but obviously no STi. There's a reason there was damn near $15,000 between the WRX and STi (and still is) - easy to forget that. You get extra power and handling goodies for your empty pocket :D

Either way, they are all still miles faster than my EJ20E ;) ;D

  11. People seem to love applying huge numbers to the PHWOOOOOOOAR feeling you get when you drive 'em. This simply isn't always the case ;D The GD/GG WRX indeed doesn't make many ponies, which is something that we're facing right now as Mum's in the market for one.

Something interesting I heard from the Winger's guys is that verison 8 (specifically) AUTOMATIC WRX (not the manual) made closer to 180kW. Reason is beyond me, but they were fairly insistent that if Mum wanted an auto WRX (as she has a completely stuffed left knee) she should go version 8 as she'd get more bang for her buck.

  12. I always wonder if people are desperately trying to lower their car for looks... you get to a certain point, and it'll stop handling nicely and start bodging corners and digging the sidewalls out of the tyres.

If it's handling you're after, there are many things you can do to the car before you have to start taking the comfort out of your ride. Bushes and bracing ;)
