  1. Don't worry about the off-topicness, it's all good info *sits back and enjoys*
  2. I'll have to give Pick-a-part another go and see if anything lines up. Strong had nothing that matched their BG boxes... Glen - reason I asked is all this talk of holding and turning front wheels. Which could be a problem.
  3. <3 Long you long time! Looks like there's some tooth counting to do when I get home. Thanks!
  4. Haha you totally got the better deal with that one ;D Can be done fast too. The box is one of the small few deviants that wanted to be different. It's from a 1996 TT Legacy of some description, and it's going into a 1990 GT wagon...so far this is one of only a few issues but definitely the major...the only one that's stopped it from going in so far. Far as I can tell from the code the old broken box was also out of a BD/BG, but is completely different again... Manuals are FAR EASIER to deal with!
  5. Hey now, let's not forget that we're not allowed to make derogatory or hateful remarks at each other on the new forums There is a rule about pointless comments or those that add no value from memory, too. I might note at this point that I too hate AT, but there is a practicality aspect involved here too; I intend to let my parents drive this car around a fair bit before it gets STi'd, and with Mum's iffy left knee she'd prefer it auto for the time being. Thinking of others as well as myself Keltik - did you use a turbo box and new clutch, or sneaky in alternatives? There's a fella that's got the same sort of total as you, but it was a 1.8 N/A donor car for the setup...while it's strong enough for a GT with a VF10 so far it probably won't handle much more punishment than that (which is why it'd be plan B rather than plan A). As far as the disagreement goes, yeah...they had a fight. One was wearing pink, the other was wearing red...the bolt pattern is different and they won't line up. The new box is on diagonals compared to the old mounts...I know that doesn't make much sense, and it certainly gets lots of WTFs when wreckers try and line up the plate from the box and the old crossmember. I may have to go and collect the parts from the panelbeaters (since they're in the other car) and take some photos of the mismatch. Strong reckons if they can find the mounts they can just shove those on the old crossmember, but it's finding the rubber mounts that's proving difficult.
  6. Let me make it just a little more clear... 1) Auto gearbox I bought for $150 was rebuilt prior to sale and had been run in the car. It just needs a crossmember so I can get the car running and redo its WOF and rego, which are both expired. 2) I have less than $2000 available, period, and a $2500 loan to pay off...and I'm in the first tax bracket. Ends meeting...a precarious balancing act. 3) Getting a proper manual setup into the Legacy is going to be a good grand or so I simply don't have. The aim of the game is to get the car on the road ASAP, considering people keep on breaking my other one. Converting to manual would be NICE, but considering the only option would be to get ANOTHER loan, I reckon it would be irresponsible to do it right now financially. So auto it is. When it comes to major things like conversions...do it ONCE do it RIGHT.
  7. That would have been so fricken' handy. The box I have is a '96 and hates my old crossmember. As for the diff ratios...only one way to find out if it's the same since there's no code on the damn thing...try it, see if the car gets stuck. Jake - I don't have the cash to throw at it for the conversion YET, so it's not much of a help. The other car's transmission is going into it when the Impreza gets the 6MT installed, but that's a few thousand dollars down the track. For now I'm stuck with a generic 4AT, because the old one blew up
  8. Yep. Not so sure about the 4ATs though It's got a strange mount for the crossmember.
  9. So to get the crossmember I want, Strong want a tranny code since it's an oddball box. Had a peek...and the sticker's gone, it's been replaced with a string of six numbers. It worries me as much as it annoys me. Any advice?
  10. State told me at the time (again, over 3 years ago) that they don't insure under 25s with STis
  11. That sounds really fricken good actually, how are they with actually paying up in the event of pwnage? NAC have seemed really good so far, but they're bloody steep. You're on comprehensive, right?
  12. Lol it's all good. I'm 22 now, but I was only just 19 when I got the car insured. NAC are lazy with updating their policies...though it's had about $600 a year knocked off the premium (just not off the excess - that would be the mods doing that) since then. Different companies have different views it seems...I got told what you got told by a few, then I said 'IM 19 LOLZ' and got told straight up to feck off, they don't insure people that young with Subarus. That was three years ago...no idea what's changed since then.
  13. They said it would be more if it was a WRX, or God forbid, an STi. Something like $2k a year with a $2600 excess (hence the mere Impreza...)
  14. That happened to me - a day after the investigation started, they suspended it. Broke my bloody heart - it DOES feel like they don't care. In fact when they did find it, it was because a resident called up and asked why there was a roughed-up, trashed Subaru sitting there for a week outside their house. Yeah...good investamagatin'. Then I had to pay $250 to get it back! I was lucky as hell too; thieves didn't want it once they discovered it was N/A. At least your car and parts are very distinctive; if it wasn't stolen to order and shipped overseas, then any parts that show up - like the ECU as you mentioned - should be readily recognisable. If nothing else, we'd all love to see these guys crushed for this useless sh!t...best result is that happening AND the car coming back!! Best of luck with it bro. I KNOW the pain and heartbreak because it recently happened to me...so many of us do...we feel for you. And want that car back!! Consider my eyes peeled.
  15. Ouch...$2000 isn't a lot for a car! Guess you kept your no claims bonus if the bikie was at fault and not you...same for me I think, I don't lose anything because I wasn't the one driving badly, lol. So your insurance is all three...house contents and 2 vehicles? Under $700 is a fairly sweet deal, the Impreza is $1100 a year with a $2k excess!
  16. That's fricken ridiculous, I have a $2k excess and I'm 22!! You're totally being swindled
  17. Thanks you guys. (need a hug smiley!) Kamineko - yeah, those things are definitely a bit more torquey than the ol' 2.0. I'm talking with a number of people about head possibilities, since I seriously doubt the stock heads on any of those old 2.2s will be happy with what I wanna do. It had an 11mm coathanger on it originally...I replaced with an STi RA one.
  18. Lol. If I wasn't so attached to the car AND the parts, I'd say...I have a 6MT and Brembos to clear out ;D But as you said it's been years...we gals build some pretty strong bonds with our shyt. The underperforming is an issue, yes. A page back or so I mentioned that there's not much you can do further with a 2.0 SOHC, and it would be silly to try. However the new motor is meant to be a high-compression EJ22 with quite a bit of STi involvement, so while it won't break any records it should be both swift and reliable (not to mention economical when not being pushed). The emotional benefits outweigh the huge costs IMO, it's why I'm doing it...it's a passion, not just a hobby The reason it's been years since anything's happened...well, I've had some pretty serious financial problems to be honest, and wracking up a huge debt would just make it even worse (since there's already a small debt there, yes yes). Things are a BIT better now, and I'm hell-bent on getting BOTH the cars where I want them at stage 1 this year...that would be conversion on the Impreza, and a running (and black) Legacy. Not after anyone's patience, I haven't earned it. Just know that I'm still struggling away here in my little corner despite everyone else's scorn ;D And one day I'll have something presentable. If I get sick of the heavy Brembos and the 6MT...want?
  19. Of course...sans parts. The parts on there currently are worth as much as the car (stock) itself. $13,000 is undersold, to be honest, considering what's on there. And what's going in there? Dude - $13k isn't going to be nearly enough. ANYWAY. My mum always told me, 'if you ain't got nothing nice to say...don't say anything'. She's a wise lady.
  20. Why don't you try insuring something that's not an STi every now and again...if anyone was conned, that would be me...they wanted to insure it for MORE because of the mods, which are individually insured too...including that smashed up wing.
  21. Corrected, you are wrong. The HX-S is the 1800. The HX20s is the 2.0L, which is what I have. Agreed value of $13,000. You forgot the extra digit, buddy.
  22. Yer bro. Farking lucky eh! There was about to be a car in front, but he saw the truck smash into me and screeched to a halt just before me
  23. Shows how much you know, eh ;D
  24. It's an 03 Civic hatch...not so cool, no ;D
