  1. Any one of those you need to get the full system or it won\'t fit.

Turbo down pipes (off the turbo to exhaust for clarification) will need to be dented in to clear the steering knuckle. In some cases one bolt (on the bell mouth type) will be a bit$4 to get on.

  2. Just wondering if anyone is traveling from Whangamata to Auckland this weekend or next week?

If you are, could you do a courier run (a favour) and pick up an item and meet me somewhere in Auckland (at your convenience).

I\'m looking at buying an item off trademe though its pick up only.

If its not out of your way I would appreciate it. Small compensation will be offered for the favour. Pm if keen?

    Thanks in advance

  3. I don\'t wanna sound like a douche but honestly I wouldn\'t cut costs or tally it up under what you "hope" it will cost.

Call around mechanics and ask what they will say price wise.

Then make a well informed decision from there.

If I were you. Go order a short block from somewhere good, pull out and check your heads. Get them machined and get all new parts ie water pump gaskets belts bla bla.

Least you know it won\'t be parts that will fail if it blows. (Hint- it becomes the labour)

  4. He doesnt have a cat converter and he is running rich. Water builds up from warm up in his exhaust due to a stupid angle..when exhaust gets hot enough it burns up the water and causes the smoke/steam.

Ridiculous. 2nd time iv heard of this happening

Just to add more info that i thought might be interesting,

slidingstrokes put this link up in another thread but it didn\'t work so ive fixed the link and it is really worth a read if your going to do an oil change soon, slightly outdated but still very informative.

Valvoline is gonna be everyone\'s best friend now isn\'t it :P not surprising though.

Sucks cause all the other brands and prices speak volumes. It\'s all about marketing strategy

  6. It only happens on idle (after a few seconds) after he\'s gone for a drive (he just went for a drive again and texted me)

It does point to turbo seal. I don\'t understand how it works tho. How it leaks coolant / gets burnt and why does it only happen (or noticeable) after said period of idle

  7. Not just learnt today but proof that supports what I knew -

Gates wrote an article that was published in a Hot Rod magazine about how Subarus, due to their design require extra consideration and care taken with their timing belts and tensioner as any friction due to an incorrect fitment causes heat transfer and premature failure to big end bearings.

They supply a tool with their belt kit which sets the tensioner gap correctly, also noting the torque settings

Surprise surprise huh. I guess it comes down to whether you trust your mechanic :P

  8. K well I was in a mates suby he\'s just bought. Drove all the way from town to KFC pakuranga (like a nana) and while we were sitting in the drive thru, all this white smoke poured out the exhaust after 2 mins waiting in line.

Like seriously it looked like a someone opened up a bin of dry ice or a crazy fog just dropped in a cemetery type scene.

    What the hell caused this?

Told him to keep an eye on coolant levels but he said all is well when he got home. Guess tomorrow morning would be the moment of truth??

Take it for a long drive down a hill. If i remember right, if it smokes like crazy at the bottom of the hill when you get back on gas it\'ll be the rings, or similar oil build up. if it smokes going down but clears up when you jump on the gas it\'ll be the valve seals.

What about if you go up a hill with "moderate" throttle/ boost (no smoke).

Reach the top of the hill and idle there.. Does it smoke as you idle? But then go away??

  10. Does it go away after you drive it? You don\'t have one of those upward facing exhausts and a lowish join to where it meets the mid pipe by any chance?

Thick white smoke or looks like a dust cloud from a diesel vehicle ...
