  1. It definitely feels like the fuel cutting out. I can go through the entire rev range smoothly as long as I keep the boost under 0.8 bar. I have a boost tap so I can check it with that. I just can't remember how to install it properly. Can anyone help me with that?
  2. I've just picked up a 1995 WRX. It's got a full 3" exhaust and a pod filter. Not sure what make the pod filter is but it's a cylindrical one with a hole in the middle. The car is boosting up to 0.8 bar and then it cuts out, comes back, cuts out, comes back, cuts out, comes back etc. If I ease through the acceleration it doesn't cut out and it goes right through the rev range so all I can think of is that the computer is causing the cut out. I did these same mods to a 1993 WRX that I had last year and it boosted to 1 bar before cutting out. There is a slight exhaust leak by the turbo that I have to fix. Could this be the cause of the problem? Could anything else be the cause of the problem?
  3. What sort of boost can these run safely?
  4. What sort of Turbo's do these engines come with? Once I get the engine fixed what's a safe boost to run? I was running 15psi on my '93 WRX without any worries with the standard turbo on that.
  5. hmm...either way I'm not sure and I don't want the engine to blow up in my face so where's a good place I can take it to on the shore or close to the shore to get it checked out to find out exactly what the noise is and how I can fix it?
  6. Hi guys, I've got a knock coming from the engine that's pretty loud on startup but it goes away when it's warmed up. My mechanic reckons it's the big end. How much would this cost to get fixed? I've got a 1997 WRX Sti Wagon
  7. Is that the rear strut brace that goes in the boot that I've seen on some wagons?
  8. Hi guys, I just got a 1997 STI Wagon. It's pretty stock standard from what I can tell. The only thing the guy said that was done was it was tuned to push out more boost, it was lowered and an aftermarket BOV was put in that makes a wee sneezing sound. I can't find anything that doesn't look like it belongs there so I don't know if this is supposed to be a stock BOV or is stock a plumb back system? I used to have a 1993 WRX Sedan and did a few mods to it. I took all of the restrictors out of the engine bay that I could find in the pipes connected to the solenoid. I took out the damping box on the air intake system and put a pod filter on it. I took out the Turbosmart Type 1 BOV that the previous guy had put on and put the stock one back in. I also had a full 3" exhaust from Turbo to Tip with 1 resonator and I can't remember what muffler I had but I didn't like that muffler because the air buffeted in it. I pretty want to do the same with this one. At least I don't have to take a resonator box out. I do want to put a pod filter on though. Are there any restrictive things that stop the standard air box from getting as much air as it should? When I put the pod filter in is there anything else I should do other then just put it on? What is a good choice of pod filter? I liked the sound of the stock 1993 WRX BOV, especially with the POD filter. The turbosmart one was too gangsta for me. Can I plumb one into the 97 STI? If so, how? Where would I find one? I'm not so sure about the car being lowered. The handling, while it is more awesome then most other cars, isn't as good as my old '93 WRX. I'm wondering whether it's because it's lowered or if it's on Bridgestone MY-01's instead of Toyo T1R's or Dunlop Direzza's or maybe because it's a wagon and wagon's just don't handle as well and I should be more careful? Now onto the main bit... The exhaust. I want to get another 3" exhaust system as this makes the most difference to the performance and of course I have been in love with the deep rumbling sound ever since I saw the first one I really noticed overtaking someones granny after coming around a corner up at the 4 square by the Torbay shops 12 years ago. I generally listen to anything from Hard Rock to Death Metal like Iron Maiden, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Slayer, Pantera, Sabbath etc. so I'm a fan of noise and I'm not looking to quiet my exhaust down but I'm definitely not looking at getting any green stickers. I quite like the way Ken Block's STI sounds on the youtube Gymkhana Practice vid but I think that might get a green sticker if I took that out on the road so something close would be good. I have a $1000 TOPS to spend on an exhaust and a muffler (installed). Where's the best place to get a good system in Aucks? What sort of system should I get? What sort of muffler (that comes WITHOUT buffeting air) should I get? Should I install any resonators in the system? Is there anything else I should do to make the ride even more mint? Thanks!!!
  9. Yeah factory everything except the full 3" exhaust. It's only done 30,000kms. I'm the first NZ owner. Apparently whoever used it in Japan put something in the fuel that buggered the engine. It's a vague story I got from the guy I bought it off who imported it. Anyway, the engine was rebuilt by Snow Mooney (If that's how his name is spelt) and I'm running it in.
  10. I've just picked up a new 2002 RSK B4. The engine is brand new and I've still got another 4800kms to go before it's run in. Everything's been dulled down to protect the engine during this period. Once I've hit that 5000kms mark what sort of boost can I run on it safely? It's got a full 3" exhaust and I won't fit a pod filter until the engine's done 5000kms.
  11. Hi guys, I have just bought a 2002 Legacy RSK B4 twin turbo. Do these come with any factory alarm at all? It not where is a good place to get a 5 star alarm on the shore? Cheers
  12. My mate reckons it's my heater core. My oil is flawless. I only changed it about 500kms ago and it's still sweet.
  13. Hey guys. I've got a '93 WRX, the cambelt needs doing, there's water pissing out of the bottom of the engine, the radiator's probably poked because there's rust everywhere, the car's done nearly 200,000k's and I was hoping to hold off on doing this until October when I get my bonus but I think it's going to need to happen sooner. Where is a good place to get an engine rebuild done in Auckland? I live on the shore. I probably also need a gearbox rebuild and some new shocks.
  14. Hmmm... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that rust everywhere and water pissing out of the bottom of the engine is probably not a good sign... Car's done nearly 200,000, cambelt needs doing and now there's this problem. I think it's rebuilt time. What do you all reckon?
  15. How do I check that? Where is it located? I'm not getting any ECC codes either BTW...
  16. Do you know where I can get a replacement from? It just sits pretty much on the top of the engine at the back in the middle under the intercooler pipe or thereabouts doesn't it?
  17. My car is doing some really weird shit at the moment. The radiator fans are running non-stop, the temperature gauge in the car reckons it's overheating insanely, the AC pumps out NOTHING but cold air and when I touch the radiator after use it's cold and the engine block is only warm. I shouldn't be able to touch it after use! Does anyone have any ideas?!?
  18. Dumpy's just look nasty. That's all I can say! I'd also go with straight cut or slight upward angle. I was quite a fan of my old 5Zigen big bore I had. Pity I can't find any images on google for it.
  19. Hey dude... I used the terminal off the battery method and it reset and didn't bring up any error codes after reset so I know the reset worked. Still runs like sh*t :-( don't know what to do next :-(
  20. Ok so I found the problem (after buying a new AFM :-S). The hose under the BOV connecting from the intercooler to the engine came off. I've replaced the AFM and put the hose from the intercooler back on but she's still idling really erratically and hesitating like mad, but otherwise at least she's not killing at 2k rpm and is boosting. I've unhooked the positive terminal to reset the computer. I hope that works. Do I need to reset the ECU in a different way? Could it be anything else?
  21. This happened to me a while back and I found that after replacing the bloody fuel pump for $220 that it was the plug under the seat that had shorted and burnt out. Took the plug out and soldered the wires and boom problem solved.
  22. I'm not sure if it's code 32 (Oxygen Sensor) either. Not sure which way around the code is supposed to be read.
  23. I have a '93 WRX. Ok so I was heading along the motorway in 5th. I dropped it to 4th to accelerate and the car just killed, the same death as when it governs. So I put it back into 5th and eased off but it kept doing the same thing every time I accelerated. I pulled off into a petrol station to check what was wrong suspecting a pipe had come off somewhere in the air system because the way the car was receiving air felt like the computer was going mental. I looked and found nothing except one pipe coming out of the bottom of this meter with nothing attached to it. I tried to find it's mate but found nothing: What meter is this anyway? I looked at the check engine codes and got 2 long and 3 short beeps which I think is code 23, which is my Air Flow meter or Circuit. HELP!!!! :-[
