I'm finally in the position to purchase BP5 Spec B, it seems like the natural progression from my last BH5 GTB. I'd like to know what to look for when purchasing one, and would like a have a rough idea of what I can do to modify and tune at a basic level.
In terms of what to look for, these seem to be common for cracks in the dash, and higher kms they wear out the lower ball joints? I'd consider myself OCD, and have access to a workshop so will make it mechanically and cosmetically sound before doing anything aftermarket.
My budget at this stage is only allowing me to purchase an Auto (however if I end up with a 6sp manual...great!), I've driven a couple of Autos and they were OK...not great. Changes felt a little sluggish and not terribly exciting. Does anyone have experience with tuning/flashing the gearbox? After a bit of research, there is some info about re-mapping on XRT/xtremeracingtuning.com but this is mainly on the 3 litre version.
I'm interested in doing basic bolt on mods, exhaust, intake etc. Can anyone recommend where I should start? If I end up with an '06, I will look at gutting the cats (as seen on Andy's thread).
Any recommendations for tuning once I've completed these mods? It appears the COBB Accessport doesn't support the JDM version, is Cryotune or Open Source tuning a good option, or is it safer/better to get a pro/shop to do it for me?
I realise there are a lot of existing resources online, and I've done quite a bit of reading. I'm really interested in a kiwi perspective, and the availability of parts we have here.
Thanks for your time!
