  1. Lots of Mis info here!

    Get 100 demerits in a 12 month period - 6m disqualification

Get 100 Demerits in a two year period - 3m disqualification

Demerits drop off after two years from the date of the offence.

Demerits are active only from the date you pay your fine, or it goes to courts for collection. HOWEVER, they are retrospectively applied from the date of the offence.

If you recieve a court imposed disqualification, your existing demerits are only wiped if the sentence is 6 months or greater. If your suspension is demerits related, your demerits will get wiped irrespective of the length of your sentence.

In the case of a disqualification, your points are wiped at the beginning of the sentence. This is handy to know if you have offences carrying demerits working their way through the system. clear these up before you get served, or the points value will not be wiped

Edit: This is irrespective of how many times your license has been suspended for demerits breaches!

  2. My advice?

Do anything that NEEDS doing - Oil seals (you'll know if you have leaks either visually, or you'll be able to smell the burnt oil)

After that, i'd look at the turbos - upgrade to VF26/27 combo or single convert.

    Invest in good rubber.

Get a factory airbox and mod that if you are running a pod.

If you choose to upgrade to the 26/27, and do the conversion yourself, you'll have cash leftover, single turbo will likely swallow your 3k, but will give you that in your face power you crave.

Personally, unless you have a family to transport, just maintain it and then flick it when you get bored and then get an sti.

  3. So. am pulling the turbos atm. Got the primary out fine, but am struggling with the secondary. after grazed knuckles, and extended periods of cursing, i got the lower heatshield off the ECV.

From here, i got the first nut (outside most nut) off the up pipe-ecv flange ok, but cannot quite get to the inside nut as the rack is in the way, and there in 2/5 of f all clearance for hands or tools.

I've also tried to unbolt the turbo from the ecv, but these bolts are well seized and an impact wrench and liberal amounts of wd40 have gained nil results.

Short of jacking the engine, does anybody have any tips or tricks?

  4. Coolant is quite a distinct smell eh. Smells hot if that makes sense.

Depending on how loud the clunking is, it could be either front swaybar bushes/endlinks (quiter end ... kind of gentle sounding) or at the louder and harsher end, it could be the center diff as mentioned.

This is considering that CV's have been eliminated...

Just go out and drive some cars. I've driven GTB's that are slower than an NA, and GT's that would put an STI to shame. The variation in power outputs is phenomenal! Find one that you like and hauls arse, and don't worry about the rest.

+1 Not all GTB's are created equal!

  6. I have spoken to Dave @ total turbo and he's going to port out the wastegate on my primary. Also gonna have a chat to him about other options as it sounds like he's done a few of these before. He said something about an actuator mod.. will have a good chat to him when i drop the turbos off.

I'll hopefully pull the turbos this weekend. anything i need to know? any need to drain coolant/oil first? or is it ok to just bung the lines etc?

While the turbos are off the car, gonna sort out some downpipes and y pipe. Any recommendations for retailers in welly? If not i'll just get rage to send some up.

nothing wrong with Legacy handling, the extra weight/ lack of acceleration and over abundance of comfort is on the other had a problem...

IIRC Front geometries are similar if not better than an M3 (yes I read it on the internet complete with a chart of mm measurements etc once AFAIK Warlord posted it up - or monolith)

Might look good on paper, but the big difference between an M3 and a Legacy is that the front wheels on a legacy are providing drive. Not knowing (or understanding) the numbers, i might be way off track here, but i would expect that because its an awd car, its front end setup should be quite a bit different to a rwd car?

Also a big problem with the BG/D is rigidity. I believe (again, third hand) That BH/BE is some 25% more rigid. Hence why strut braces have such a noticeable impact.

Decent strut brace, 22mm Rear sway bar and good tyres should be your first step. Doing this to my BD Transformed the handling, and negated alot of the understeer.

Next steps are Front sway bar, Anti lift kit and either sti shiocks/springs or a rebuild of the bilsteins.

I thought the sti shocks were just pink bilsteins? Is there a difference?

Not sure? I was led to believe that pinks were a good upgrade. I'll be happy if that info is wrong, as I'm more than happy with the bilsteins - but at 140k they're due for a rebuild.

My endlinks are poked on my FSB too, so might as well do the whole bar when i'm in there.

  10. Cool. I want to go 3" all the way through.

I think my noise issue is not from the muffler itself, but possibly the install. It seems to be variable in nature, sometimes its not that loud, others its loud enough to be uncomfortable. I've sussed this now after a good trash at lunchtime. I'm gonna stick it on stands this afternoon and see whats going on.

  11. Oh true that.

The other thing of course is that i don't want to negate the effects of doing the exhaust by impeding flow. What i'm not clear on is by doing down pipe and going to a 3" midpipe, how much will it change the sound characteristics?

This is the first time i've modified the exhaust on a subaru and on a turbo car, and i know there are different principles to doing an NA car, but i'm unclear how far those principles extend.
