  1. Try the Meguiars stuff, its in a little clear yellow coloured bottle, its about $20 though but worth every penny, my terrano used to be a painters/trademans work hack plus he smoked too, a few sprays of that stuff and she was as good as new!!

  2. I put one on my wagon when I got it at 70kms and then the turbo was about poked by 90kms so hmmm I'm not too sure if it helped at all but hey I still use it now but I reckon you dont need any more than 30sec of run down time, any more and your just wasting gas :)

And plus its a giggle when people come running up to you in a shop and say "you've left your lights on" you then say "nah its all good its a subaru they"ll turn themselves off" and then watch them look at you strangely and cary on ;D gets me every time lol

The VF31 is a good upgrade. (VF32 CHRA on P11 housing)

Does it have a pill? (standard TT pill with 0.8mm hole)

Yeah its a good turbo as far as usability goes, its much smoother than previous and VOD was noticably less with the newer turbo, buuuut......... the priginal turbo used to be quite "in ya face" and the factory bov was easily heard now not so much, thats why I had thought it was running less boost, and yeap it sure has the wee pill in it :)

  4. Just after reading the post below about restrictor pill sizes it got me thinking..........Yonks ago I had the primary turbo on my BG Legacy replaced with a brand new vf 31 as the original one sounded a tad worse for wear, now I always thought that it never went quite as well as before even with the tired turbo but put it down to the less noise it was making. I dont have a boost gauge hooked up to tell but is there any chance the restrictor pill for the wastegate on the new turbo would be different in size to the original one? Thus causing less boost as the control soleniod and computer were never meant to be running this turbo?

The mind boggles.............and I dont still have the original turbo to compare :(

    pm'd you.

    Cheers bud,

I dont even know if I'll worry about it now, I wondered if going back to the plain old multitrax oil would fix the prob as it was never noticeable before I started using the syntrax, and I have a funny feeling as its nothing actually broken that the mech warranty guys will class it as "general wear and tear" and wont pay out for it, its more of a pain than a problem, I mean you can drive around for weeks and it would be great then for a whole day it would be a prick, so I can never pin point it, driver retartedness could be a factor also.

I once put fully synthetic gbox oil in a vtec honda I had when I was younger and it had the same symptoms after running the fully synthetic oil too, went back to the genuine honda stuff and it was sweet as! So might dump the syntrax and stick the normal stuff back in run it for 500kms or so then change it again to make sure its all gone and see what happens, I've heard of people saying that some synthetic oils can be too slippery for the synchros or something along those lines - wouldnt have a clue myself, and my cars the most nana'd subby I know of, I just cant understand why the box would have issues so early in its life ???

  6. So I had a wee looksee under it and the bushings that are in the actual lever have been replaced but the big round bushing where it mounts to the gearbox has a bit of play as does the square block like one at the rear of the mount, I can move it side to side about 4mm, I wonder is that caould be causing it as it only happens every now and then and when its cold its sweet as a nut, doesnt look like its going to be a fun job to do though.

why dont u just take it into your mechanic warrenty workshop and tell them what the problem is??

Mainly because its a two hour drive, a day off work, $35 for a loan car and around $80 gas, would like to make sure its not something I can fix at home first hence why I posted this up

  8. Hello and welcome to my second issue of the day :)

My Legacy has devolped a random idle problem, when cold and idling it jumps up and down like a yoyo as it warms up, and occasionally when you change gears it almost dies if your not quick enough with the gear changes and also if you come up to a stop it almost dies and jumps up and down slightly for a second or two, no ecu codes comming up, clean air filter, fuel filter, recent plug change and a can of upper engine cleaner went through it about 5kms ago. I was thinking it might be a problem with the idle controll hoodacky thing, but how exactly I fix it is beyond me.

    Thanks agian peoples.

  9. Hi peoples, ok car is a 97 GTB Legacy with 107kms and 5 speed manual, Lately I've been having some strange issues with the gearbox in it, the problem is sometimes I have trouble getting it into 1st gear, its like you have to fight with it, just last weekend I was stuck at the lights in chch because it just wouldn't go into 1st gear at all, also sometimes when you try to shift from 1st to 2nd it sticks in 1st a wee bit and you've kinda got to give it a good yank but the majority of the time it works fine.

Second issue is when it heats up a bit 3rd gear can sometimes be a right prick to select, it just seems really slow to engage unless your giving it a good shunt, it never crunches at all and revving it makes no difference at all so I had thought it may not be syncros, it had a new genuine clutch kit fitted about 15kms ago, new selector lever bushings fitted 10kms ago and new castrol syntrax 75/90 gear oil put in it about 5kms ago, my mechanical warranty runs out in about two weeks so I would like to get it sorted before it runs out :)

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  10. Jeez I feel your pain man, I've been through three sets of shocks on my legacy, here's what I done,

Option 1, had them replaced with 2nd hand ones - they lasted 3,000kms!!!!! so I would definatley not reccomend 2nd hand at all no matter how good someone tells you they are!

Option 2, have them rebuilt at Suspension Tech in Auckland for about $160+ each depending on what they need doing to them and they're good as new after that.

You'll just have to sort out getting them taken out and put back in, any mechanic with half a brain can have each strut out in half an hour or less each corner and wheel alignments are usually about $70 which you'll definatley need.

    Best of luck :)

  11. It'll be a bush problem its exactly the same as mine but as I said some of them cant just have the bushes changed as part of the linkage is pressed together and you cant get the bushes out - hence you have to replace that part of the linkage - its the bit closest to the gearbox, id have a wee looksee first as I made the mistake of ordering the parts first

    Good luck! :)

  12. As I found out there's easily replaceble nylon bushings or a sealed dog bone fist looking thing that sits on the end of the shifter rod that goes into the gear box, mine had worn that part out and was $150 for a genuine one which causes the side to side slop, might be different on the WRX's though.

  13. I reckon its the little things that matter when your looking for what you are,

    Good clean oil

    Clean air filter

    Clean fuel filter

    Good plugs

    Good fuel (98)

    Injector cleaner maybe

Make sure there's no fault codes of any kind as depending on what it is could use more fuel and rob power

And I'd look into using a can of "Subaru upper engine cleaner" http://www.subaru.co.nz/Service/Service_Additives.php- from my experience this stuff works a treat!

And I'm sure a better flowing exhaust would help,

    Good luck

  14. I've seen this fella on there too and was wondering how he was doing it soo cheap, it worries me that the majority of the engines are the same internally - I thought non sti wrx would have differnet compression ratios, crank ect than the likes of a GTB engine? If they were decent build it'd alomost be worth tucking one away in the garage for a rainy day (or a beb day lol)

  15. Hey just wondering if anyone has pulled the factory seat material off the GTB seats before? The base of my drivers one is showing a bit of wear so I've tracked down a nice clean tidy set and just want to swap the material from one to the other, the auto trimmers reckon I can just pull one off and fit it to the original but I'm not too sure (I just think he didnt want to do it) anyone tried this before?
