1. Hi All, So I won the auction for Subaru 03-07 Legacy front pipe and have been told I should upgrade my front Brakes and Rotors to accommodate the extra power as apparently the turbo and non-turbo Legacys for the BP series share the same brake set up (Excl STI Legacy). I know the rotors are 316mmx30mm for Front, I found some on tradme with right measurements but listed as WRX Rear? And apparently the brembos from same year STI's bolt straight on with 0 modifications I've never touched rotors or calipers on any cars I have owned so I need a bit of guidance, Firstly what are the equiv year models for STIs that I may be able to find 2nd hand ones, Otherwise a non brembo option and what rotors are good for street driving (no track) Or a good mechanic that can sort it for me Thanks! EDIT: Now I'm confused according to http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ccgrant/bpLegacy.htm The Spec B already has Brembos, But the guy I was talking too said they didn't
2. He was just taking a guess, Since they don't make an exact fit one for my car, He just assumed he could get one from the 1st gen (Were they single turbo as well?) Legacys and "Make" it fit Think it was 89-93 year
3. Yeh the mid pipe they were gonna purchase was about $400 or something, $540 includes labor I think
4. I was gonna ask them when I went in to pick up down pipe, According to their website they only fabricate the down pipe as it has the most performance increase or something
5. Yeh apparently he was just gonna cut it off where the Y pipe joins in to 1 pipe, and weld a new mid pipe on to the end that bolts up to Down pipe from TM Auction
6. Pitstop quoted me $540 for the mid pipe thingy He even rang his supplier and they don't make them for my car so he was gonna get in a 83-94 one and modify it or something Worst case I'll just stick with the front pipe from Subtech and sort out the rest later
7. Would the wiring be the same for the newer BP legacy? I am wanting to replace the Amp/Sub with something a bit better as the Sub sounds nice with the lower frequencies <50hz I'm guessing, The door speakers sound fairly tinny for handling any sort of bass >50hz Assuming my numbers are the right numbers
8. Contacted Subtech regarding the front exhaust pipe hopefully going to get it installed next week Have also ordered Zerosports Air Intake Pipe, Radiator Cooling Panel and a Rad Cap (Just for fun) from 41 AVS S5 Alarm is installed, getting a Blackhawk GPS Unit installed next wednesday, Rapidradio are putting in a band expander for me on Saturday coz I wanna keep the McIntosh HU After that I'll work on a CarPC, Probably use http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=WKSPB3205&name=PB-3205-Ultra-Small-Shuttle-Box-Intel-Dual-core-E6 As my CarPC then all I gotta do is find a 7" touch screen that has either dvi or hdmi inputs.
9. Ahhh okay, I assume they are bolted on to the rest of the pipe? So I could just replace from the Turbo back to Muffler then, Might head to Pit Stop tomorrow, unsure or http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/subaru/engines/auction-424947556.htm
10. Would it directly bolt on or require some fiddling around? I plan to keep the mufflers, but untill I can get under it I am unsure if the guy did it all the way back from the turbo or just changed the mufflers, I keep hearing about Pit Stop being good at doing custom jobs, so might look to them
http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,25557.0.html He looked to be making good progress. Yeh I've been watching that thread, Waiting on finished product
11. Hi All, Just bought a 2003 Subaru Legacy (BP) GTB and it had these mufflers on it I got told to do 3 things on this car atleast, New IC, Exhaust and get it Tuned Not sure if the entire exhaust was done by the guy in Japan, but if it hasn't where in Auckland can I sort the rest of the exhaust I'd like to keep those mufflers on it, Also would an STI/WRX Top mount be direct bolt on to these engines as they seem to be more of a square shape not rectangle, Lotsa threads on tuning so I can figure that out (Apparently the ecus in these are flashable) Any advice appreciated Thanks
12. Sweet thanks for the explanation. Just on another note, I thought the only difference between GT and GT Spec B were Bilsteins? But I see GTBs advertised with the 18" but no Bilstein badge, and GTs with normal 17" that has a bilstein badge D:
13. As it's a 3L engine wouldn't it be more guzzly on the gas? They are roughly the same price as the 2l turbo models so I could test drive one, Just a bit worried on the gas usage. Also someone told me to test drive a Mazda Atenza but they don't look as sexy from the front heh ;s
14. Awesome thanks for help everyone, just made my decision much easier, Hopefully I can score that blue one before someone else does, otherwise I'll try grab the one in the first post
15. Yeh my old 99 GT was auto, test drove an 03 GTB with triptronic and definately felt a difference, even the auto shifting felt smoother, Took it out on the motor way in Grey Lynn put my foot down as much as I used too on the 99 and had to slow down as it shot past the speed limit way quicker than the 99. Didn't seem to like doing 60 around the normal road either, accelerated quite fast so I'll need to lay off the heavy foot ;D Also the car spoke to me in Japanese lol, something about not putting seatbelt on before turning on engine, apparently it has english in it, just can't change the maps on the nav screen, no biggy tho lotsa options on the forum from people using it for other things
16. Tune? Plugging the ECU in to a computer and re doing settings sorta Tune? is that possible with the factory ecus on these? I was looking at those ARC ICs on fortyone.co.nz but apparently ARC has gone bankrupt so maybe a STI IC from the same year might fit?
17. http://www.autobase.co.nz/cars-for-sale/Subaru/Legacy/Station-Wagon/1393885.htm That made me drool excessively Think that 1 car made me decide on a legacy hands down lol
18. I do mostly around town driving so manuals wouldn't suit me very well, According to autotrader there are 153 Foresters on their site but 817 Legacys lol Doesn't help that the dealers just list them as <Year> Subaru Forester, I gotta sort thru the pics to find XT or Cross Sports on rear EDIT: Looks like I'm looking for Cross Sport for Foresters only, the XT seems to be 4spd Automatics where are the Cross is Triptronic (still unsure on 4 or 5spd) and has more options http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/subaru/forester/auction-414842316.htm Might have to change the wheels tho , Also not sure what is written on the grill
19. I test drove the Legacy but found it didn't seem to have as much room as the 99 version I think coz the handbrake got moved to the right slightly?, Was gonna test drive a Foz this week but probably run out of time I do know the Legacy Triptronic is 5spd, the Foz that I linked is cross sports Triptronic but only 4 spd? I think That legacy has STI bits, pedals and muffler atleast, Doesn't seem to be as many 02-05 Foresters over here atleast the Turbo versions anyway
20. Hey All, Well my 99 Legacy GT got written off over a year ago and I've been driving my Nanas Toyota Vitz :'( I am now back in the market for a new ride, I've been browsing the forums the last few days trying to see if anyone has been wondering the same things I have but not having much luck I was wondering on peoples thoughts on 2 current possibilities 2003 Subaru Legacy GT Spec B vs 2003 Subaru Forester Cross Sports Not exactly those 2 but they are the best of the options I could find, According to AA Ins it's about $300 cheaper per year for the Forester which I find funny, but the Forester has done far less K's and is $3000 cheaper Problem I have is both I'd be driving to work and having to park on a side street I'm planning on installing an AVS S5 alarm + Blackhawk GPS in whichever car I get just coz I'm paranoid Any advice, opinions welcome Thanks EDIT: Forester link changed
21. I used to have this on my BH as well when I was running 95, started running 98 and it hasn't happened since (Don't have that car anymore thankfully D:)
22. Just wondering if Advanti Vets 17x7 with 215/45/R17 tyres off a 99 legacy would fit a 98+ Forester, or would I need to change the tyres? Buying a forester and want to swap the mags on my legacy for the factory ones on the Fozz.
23. I'm quite a big guy, that's why I went for a 99 over a 97 Legacy in the first place, found the 97 to cramped. Hence why I was looking at the Fozz, nice height, more leg room than the impreza but not as long as a wagon, also cheaper insurance. But it all depends how much we end up getting for the house and getting a new one, whether we get the 04 or an earlier model Fozz, e.g 2002 Forester XT
24. Like that one? kind of forgot about those, I was thinking the older shape, I need to test drive all 3 fairly close together and see which I like the feel of For some reason the Fozz has the cheapest insurance ;s
25. In terms of length , the 04+ legacy (from what I've seen in the ones driving past work) seems bigger the the previous BH models (length wise) and I was after something a bit more sporty (i.e STI) but I don't like sedans to much and not a fan of the sport hatch look. If I could test drive/see a 04+ Legacy GT Spec B. my opinions might change, but they seem hard to find with low k's
