  1. Just did the drive thing makes noise in all gears when the car is moving whether clutch engaged or not. Not specifically louder in any gear. Pretty much matches the engine revs except when coasting in gear. then noise matches the gear ie slower in 5th than 1st If i'm coasting really slow in a gear with the clutch down it's really slow. When parked with the Handbrake on putting it in gear as if to pull away then easing the clutch out but not enough to stall th noise almost goes -I guess it's cos the revs drop right down and the gears dont move. It doesn't sound too metalic. Pretty light thudding sound. Almost plasticy infact the same as a screwdriver handle against the bell housing. Drives fine and if have the windows up I can't hear it at all or notice anything amiss when driving. Even the shifter doesn't transmit any vibrations Had some scary quotes today-testing the waters. Where would i find the numbers on the casing?
  2. How do you upload documents? I was hoping to throw up some pdf's but not sure how. Photobucket won't let me unless i save it as a jpeg first. But then the quality is poor. Feel free to move this thread to the 'how do i post pics' it was locked so didn't know where else to ask.

Thought so. I recognised the Legacy mags. Yours has the big scoop now tho?
  4. I looked in my workshop manual-should've done it first lol-BTW I've got the whole 2gig of Workshop manual for the foz and the TSB's too if anyone needs them, I'll find the link or burn it to disk and give it at the next meet 3. Unusual noise comes from transmission. NOTE: If a noise is heard when the vehicle is parked with its engine idling and if a noise ceases when the clutch is disengaged, it may be considered that the noise is coming from the transmission. (a) Insufficient or improper lubrication Lubricate with specified oil or replace. (b) Worn or damaged gears and bearings NOTE: If the trouble is only wear of the gear teeth surfaces, only a high whirring noise will occur at high speeds, but if any part is broken, rhythmical clicking sounds will be heard
  5. went outsied and moved the car (to infront of the garage) and the noise is more like someone rubbing their knuckles down a wash board or other corrugations. Quite thuddy. poked my head down there and it sounds nearer the flywheel/clutch that gearbox. Will look inside best I can otherwise it's a stripdown and look inside. If i'm just looking at the clutch should i bother draining trans oil? it's only 2000km old and 4litres can't be that heavy. Will it spill out the top anywhere?
  6. I can imagine that. was joking about the metal. It's gonna be funny when I drain the oil and theres a pair of teeth on the plug I spose the worst case is a few hours under the car and $500-800 Not like anyone died but it still sucks. Just when I spent a year clearing the Creditcard. The wife's gonna kill me. The first words will be "so we're not getting that new soafa then?"
  7. happens when I'm stationary with no wheels turning. I thought about that first but then stopped and was still going. Didn't do a launch or anything, was already moving but got a bit leadfooted and the back 'may have' stepped out a little but only for 1-1/2 seconds or so. then drove as normal. No crunching. Think it's a diagnosis best left for daylight. If it's nothing obvious apparent I'll whisk off to the shoppe and see what the man has to say. "have a look down the clutch fork hole with a light and mirror and check for any new dents in the bellhousing, failing that check gearbox oil for any metal on the plug... Posted on: Today at 08:31:27 pm Posted by: keltik " Must be savage to dent the bell!!! There's always metal on the plug lol
  8. Probably but it wouldn't come out right because it's under the car with other noises. More of a tick tick tick tick tick. Imagine a stone in the tyre at 5-10kms rolling down a road and its about the same
  9. What about bypassing the boost cut and getting an IEBC to adjust it upto 15-16?
  10. Cheers. I'll examine it further tomorrow when its light. The funny thing is though it still makes it with the car parked but idling? So only the one shaft going into the box but no gears engaged? is that right?
  11. something must be up with mine I keep getting 12.6 (0.86bar) without trying all that hard. Top of end of third going uphill on Oteha valley on-ramp. Something to investigate
  12. Just went a dropped a DVD back in the rain. 1st gear hill start on a bend got a little loose in the wet. then there was some kid of clunk under the car that I took for a sloppy engine mount or something knocking. then when I came down the drive way with the window down (to get the mail) I could hear a tapping that varied with both engine and wheel speed but only with the clutch partially of fully lifted. With the car in idle and clutch down it's normal but in Nuetral and clutch up it goes tap tap tap tap about twice a second. Any ideas? It's pissing down with rain and dark so I can't look at it right now. Could it be a stone in the flywheel or something? I'm worried it could be major
  13. Just been trawling around on offroadsubarus.com and found out that king springs do what I'm after They do a standard which firms the car and raises the rear by 20mm and a long which lifts by 40mm. I think I'll go standard all round so the car sits level but stiffer than stock. the only choice now is either KYB's or munroes? THere's about $12 per shock in favour of the ozzie dampers
  14. That an s/tb? Done much work or is it still sitting stock? Very tidy, black is mean.
  15. just open a photobucket and upload things there, then you can cut and paste the image link to this lovely site. That way we don't max out the servers
  16. I've seen a few around and I think you can buy an aftermartket one that's designed for the foz but looks like a v8. Nztintin's got one I think?

I really want to but uni's taking over my life! I plan on finishing this year so don't want to fail any papers. It seems like all my assignments are due in the second week of every month, hence you won't be seeing me tonight Soon tho, I promise. The weekend's looking free

    Air intake

I whipped out the snorkus and put a 90deg bend with a bell mouth opening into the standard air box. Then blanked off the hole in the engine bay with some sheet alu. Didn't run a pipe from the fog lights because i'm paranoid about hydrolocking as I drive on the beach and through shallow creeks etc. Running a fram mesh filter that gets washed whenever i change the oil every 8-10k. The air intake temp is much lower now but the downside is hearing the factory BOV everytime i lift the gas. Cost me around $12 for the two bits of pvc 75mm pipe and i had the old pod lying around. Was going to spray it black but havn't been bothered so far
  19. If that didn't have the gangsta chromes and kept the originals it would be a really hot car
  20. I still want the 09 2.5TD for work, now I've just gotta convince them..... in the meantime it just gets worse http://www.autoguide.com/gallery/gallery.php/v/main/auto-shows/newyorkautoshow2009/outback/IMG_5858.JPG.html
  21. ...are good for laughing at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxVnBoL89eU
  22. Cheers I thought the guy was lying too, but he said that those bushes oem are oil filled. To stop the squeek I'll just drill and tap a small greaseport on the housing so I can pump some lube in every couple of months.
  23. Not sure on names but they look the same. Do these bushes http://www.noltecsuspension.com/popproduct.php?id=N51710 go on these types of alloy carriers? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Suspension/auction-216991985.htm The ones on the Foz are leaky and failed a wof. While I'm there I was gonna do both but wasn't sure on what their called exactly. And are these the front ones I'll need? http://www.noltecsuspension.com/popproduct.php?id=N51709&vhcid=626&brand=SUBARU&series=FORESTER++SF++8%2F97+to+6%2F02 Cheers
