  1. I have one of those blue simota panel filters that use the non woven material. Says I need to spray with the provided solution and use compressed air to blow it out. Dont have access to an air compressor, would there be any harm using warm water to flush \ clean it instead ? What makes the non woven ones different to say cotton based filters like K&N ?
  2. Forte Stainless in Hamilton, cheap bends, rod and straights.
  3. Or try Bazda over on Toyspeed, he gets good deals on coilovers and suspension components. Take a look at FortuneAuto range, good stuff for the street and track, you customise they build it.
  4. Good buying there at $8000, dont forget to factor in a cambelt and good all round service, I never trust anyones previous servicing unless I can see invoices.
  5. Now this is interesting, warmed up town driving is 13.3L per 100 kms So based on my average of 17.3L and my cold vs warm kms, I worked out that cold running is using 38L per 100 kms. (based on 1.5km to reach operating temp). So the working week return trip to and from home is using nearly 1/3 of the tank for only 20% of the total kms travelled. I thought cold driving used 20% more than warmed up driving ?, mine seems to be a 100% more. Based on the 20% it would be putting me in the 14-15L per 100 which is what id expect for city driving.
  6. Filled up on the way home, actual usage for the return trip was 8.6L per 100km. Quite impressed. So it uses 2 times more for town driving.
  7. I stay off the turbo until its fully warmed up, but I always thought the best way to warm up was to drive normally, rather than idling it in garage.
  8. Sitting in Tauranga at the moment, filled up before leaving Hamilton, and computer is showing average of 11-12km per L all the way down. So looking like it will get 9-10L per 100km for open road driving, which incidently is the best we have ever got, so the tune has definately improved the open road economy. Prior to tuning we were getting 11L per 100km for the same trip. Definately something up with warmup and\or acel enrichement.
  9. Reckon we need a thread where people can modify their posts in the following format Car (Make, model, year) mods Fuel type (95, 98) L per 100km - KmsTown\KmsHighway eg 14.2 | 150 | 250 17.1 | 330 | 0 10.5 | 10 | 450
  10. Only done 39km since the weekend, and its now showing 20L per 100km average (5kms per litre on the computer).
  11. The fact that it loses a fair bit of average economy during the warmup period would suggest the warmup is possibly a bit on the heavy side. My old MR2 on a super rich tune ran about 18L per 100 kms for town driving. So I suspect it is running quite rich when cold.
  12. Bearing in mind it may breach copyright laws, but you could try this method. 1) Download program called Audacity 2) loop the audio out to your audio in on your soundcard 3) press record 4) press play on you tube vid 5) wait till all the sound is captured. 6) chop out the snippet of sound you want 7) save as WAV 8) convert to MP3 or just use WAV file.
  13. Talk to AdrenalinR in Hastings, you may get away with one of their rear cannon mufflers and a resonator for under $600. Their stuff is ultra high quality and excellent at reducing noise, leaving only a nice sporty tone, and more importantly legal sounding exhaust.
  14. Its only illegal if you get caught and more importantly if the f**kwits are able to breath \ talk after said beating.
  15. AnNother fill yesterday, all town driving, worked out to 17.1L per 100 Theme seems to be a pattern (watching the avg kms per litre in computer), when cold it basically gets pinned at 5.9kms per litre). After warm up and driving around a bit it start creeping up slowly ie 6.0, 6.1, but then quickly loses any gains when you start up the next morning. Filled the car from warm and went for a drive and after 10 kms of warm driving im upto 6.5kms per litre and climbing. Wondering if the warmup routine is a bit rich ? Also how long should the car take to warm up ? and how far up the temp gauge should the needle be ?
  16. Always liked the 2000+ Lotus Esprite (3.5L V8 Twin Turbo). At <$85,000NZ its in that affordable range for something with Supercar looks that performs well and handles well.
  17. this is the second time the car has been filled up since the tune, no other mods or issues with the car. we got at 64,000 kms and I did all the maintainence, new AFR sensor, oil, diff fluids, transmission, filters etc etc. based on the type of use its had in the last 3 weeks (short trips and cold weather) im going to say my gut feel is a rich warmup routine, combined possibly with a high acel pump\enrich value.
  18. filled up today, came out at 17.6L per 100km, thats 100% town driving. gonna try one or 2 more tanks to get an average, and also an open road trip.
  19. Yeah pretty much, baby on board 99% of the time so cant really use the go pedal around town. Drive back from Puke worked out to be 14.3L per 100 km based on 70% open road and 30% town. Yet to do a 100% open road trip. Suspect it will be 12L per 100 on open road and 17L per 100 for town. Go pedal driving may hit 18-20L per hundred kms
  20. Tune has been the only major thing done to car since the good factory economy readings i was getting. Then again the weather has also been substantially colder as well, so could well be the car being in its warm up map most of the time. Might give it another tank and try get some longer trips in it to see what it can do. Was tuned at PBMS and they spent alot of time on it, pretty Sure Gary there knows his stuff, lots of good tunes come out of PBMS.
  21. God I do like the extra power, but I may get it flashed back to stock if I keep getting economy like that. Might talk to PBMS, perhaps a matter of leaning it up a bit more ?
  22. Nope no error codes and also put in a new AFR sensor when we got the car. Only has 68,000kms on it.
  23. Nah no ECO mode on it. Best I got since retune was 14.3L based on 70% open road and 30% town Best prior to tuning was 11L based on 90% open road and 10% town 100% town prior to tuning was about 14-15L So based on this tank it seems to be using about 3L more per 100 km than before, and it doesnt really get driven hard as baby is usually on board. Mabey the warm up enrich is set high, ot the acell pump\enrich value is high, unsure what variables are settable in the stock ECU. Id be happy with 400 kms off a tank for town driving.
  24. 2004 Legacy GT-B with PBMS reflash and Subtech Frontpipe, running 98. Does 350kms on 60L (17.1L per 100km) 300kms of that all town driving ?. Misses drives about 2 km to work each morning and 3 km home after picking up baby. Weekends its just used for short trips 5km between home and supermarket etc. I know thats bad but we try to do a good 2 hour open road trip every month. Cold weather combined with 3 weeks of short trips, sitting in traffic idling would make it drink the fuel ???
  25. No way $300-400 to paint wheels in 2pak depending on colour and amount of prep work plus $250 for a cheap set of 5x100 wheels so car is useable while I get them done. = $550 PLus new tryes = $1000 So $1550. When for an extra $600 I can get new 18" wheel and tyre package. Nothing wrong with my factory wheels, but I would l ike something to make the car stand out from factory a little to compliment the extra power its got from tuning and front pipe.
