  1. The market seems to be changing as less jap cars are coming in... but I still think it\'s a buyers market currently... six months ago when i was looking for a new car... 16k seemed to be the going rate for a v7...
  2. I would use the line next to the alternator... to the left in the pic.
  3. And if that doesn\'t work, take it back.
  4. Well Melling is boy racer central, so... maybe the idea is to take away the good fuel so all their engines blow up?
  5. JVille still had it last night... I can\'t image Taranaki St losing it.
  6. Yeah $37 is pretty good... wouldn\'t take long to do though...
  7. Finally finished with clutch replacement and got car back on the road. Only been for a very brief test drive so far, but it feels good... pedal feels very light and smooth... clutch engages really fast and positively.
  8. If the steering is delayed by ten seconds... pull over... sober up... try again.
  9. The engine mounts are ok... the splines are lined up... it\'s the spigot bearing that is being a bitch... I have had the box lined up perfectly... well appearing to be lined up... but it just won\'t budge. I had a jack under the front of the engine to help line it up... but no luck.
  10. fuck fuck fuck. can\'t get the box to go on. first time I forced it a bit and got all paranoid about the spigot... so took it all a part and replaced it... now again, it just won\'t go the last cm or 2... it\'s like trying to thread a 100 kg needle.
  11. got flywheel on, then clutch... couldn\'t line up the gearbox properly, so did what I knew I shouldn\'t and used the top bolts to pull it up... it did ping into place... but think I might have damaged the spigot bearing... so took gearbox off... then clutch, then flywheel, replaced spigot, put flywheel and clutch back on. what a douche.
  12. So, what I have exactly is... Grade 12.9 cap screws, M8, 16mm long with a 1.25 mm thread pitch. I have checked these against the original bolts and they match. I have some new spring washers and some high strength loctite as well. The "cap", which I didn\'t realise, means they are allen key bolts... so I\'m guessing 12 ft/lbs is about hand tight, and that the torque isn\'t too critical...
  13. haha, yeah that would be my guess too...
  14. Anyone know how long they are so I don\'t have to go home and have a look. doh.
  15. Yup, that\'s where I was headed, thanks. And I owe them 50c too, so they\'ll be pleased to see me
  16. Not after second hand... just wondering if anyone knew of a shop that had specifically purposed bolts... BNT, Extreme etc... I could just ask around, but I\'m short on time today and really really want to get the car back together in the weekend.
  17. So, my old clutch cover bolts look tired as, especially the spring washers on them... so before I go into Subaru and get told I have to wait until Monday for some new ones from AK... does anyone know where I can get some suitable bolts from... without waiting? and I don\'t mean going to a general bolt shop and getting some that look like they\'ll do the job... In Welly... thanks
  18. yup... even got the flywheel to the machine shop this morning... when I asked how much it was going to cost, I was told "less than $10,000"... I\'m guessing less than $50...
  19. Yeah but that\'s because the clutch is old and won\'t hold up to launching... I\'m hoping the next time you see smoke it will be the tyres
  20. My last STi I went through a clutch in around 22000 kms... I thought that was pretty good at the time
  21. yeah maybe if it was driven gently it\'s whole life... but an STi?
  22. ok thanks guys. It\'s off now... not sure Joker\'s suggestion helped... but for some reason it just decided to let go a bit at the the top of the box, so I was able to get a screw driver in and wedge it off... not sure if it\'s been off before... and from the amount of dirt on the clutch cover I wouldn\'t be surprised if it was the factory unit... but I find it hard to believe it\'s original with 108000 kms on the clock.
  23. oh will that be securing it? doh! just remembered I missed the "pushing the clutch fork forward" step... and just took the pin out.
  24. I\'m trying to get the box off to change the clutch, but the gearbox just won\'t budge at all. It seems to be fused to the engine block. I have undone everything and sprayed CRC on the dowels and the bottom bolts... the clutch fork pin has been removed... I\'ve tried bashing it a bit with a mallet... levering it off against the engine sub frame... no luck. Any tips or tricks out there?
