1. Tony at RDL performance rebuilt a motor for one of my mates. Did a really good job for a good price and in about 4 days.
2. type exponential decay curve into google. It kind of looks like a hockey stick, so at first it decreases slowly but as time goes on the rate at which it decays keeps on compounding. Basically once it starts to go it will go bad quickly. Keeping fuel in air tight containers and out of sunlight will extend it's life but after a month or so I wouldn't be sticking anywhere other than my lawnmower.
3. Opens are qay to expensive to be competitive in Christchurch. Especially cause we have Mat Hamilton. One of his open karts had two motors on it each worth 5k or 6k each. One of the engines was a DD2 rotax and the other was some Italian direct drive thing if I remember rightly. Needless to say it was very quick. Then you have to have bridgestone soft compound tyres to place anywhere near the front and kiss those goodbye in a meeting. Fun for a blast though and besides they're not that much quicker than a rotax 125 just have more down low speed so can punch of of corners faster. Also octane reduces exponentially (exponential decay n=n0 ek-t) so the longer you leave it the worse it gets.
4. ????? Did you get the right thread?
5. Holly s**t, would that not ruin the piston, head, cylinder etc? Max temp on a rotax is something like 80 deg C which is about 130 deg F I think. Get it to hot and they recommend replacing the top end as the alloy goes soft. Although that is water temp whereas yours would be actual head temp so that may have something to do with it.
6. Yea, we can't mess with our mixture during the race so no where near as likely to lean it out to much. Although some guys run the rotax in open class and they have a variable needle in the bum of the carb.
7. what type of kart do you race. When I had my rotax I tested different octanes for lap times and 95 to 98 made no difference. I started just racing on 95 and it didn't effect reliability either.
8. Yea just don't think about the brand new STi you could buy with the money instead Still, thieving little f**ckers can't steal memory's.
9. Tell me about it. Not looking forward to this season. They should re-name it Mt Hutt, the great southern ice skating rink! We did about 40 days last year, I can;t see us doing half that this season. [quote name='nt_a_foz said: Awesome pics man.. Holy **** the valley sounds like a dream come true haha boarding for 4 hours to get home... what country was that in? It was pretty epic. It's in France, a little south of Geneva, in the piece of france that kind of juts into Switzerland and Italy. Our next trip will be to Sapporo in Japan. Mates of ours have been there and apparently (trying to get through the "fish was this big" factor) they have fresh powder almost every day!
10. Cheers mate.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zSMMghB_dY Noticed the handlers only got one arm? Bloody shat myself when the tiger took a swipe!
11. I'm in Christchurch....Bit of a hassle, but could sort something if you were interested. Pm me if you want pics, information etc.
12. Cheers mate. The snow is in a place called "the 3 valleys" It's the largest ski area in the world, has 600km of groomed runs and 183 lifts. Most of the photos are only one of the valleys, there are another two valleys basically the same size again all connected to each other. We left the far valley at lunch time one day and was still snowboarding home 4 hours later!
13. Helps when the inlaws pay for the wedding and my parents pick up the bar tab.
14. Also the ice racing track at Val Thorens was pretty cool. This is the ice track used in one of the Top Gear episodes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtNaLVW3psQ
15. Cheers, it was definitely a once in a life time sort of deal. No money left now though :'(
16. Good Morning All! Just got back from our wedding and an around the world honeymoon. Thought I would share some photos from our travels. I have been a little lazy and not put them in order, but you get the idea. Car highlights would have to be the Veyron outside the Dorchester in London and the Mercedees museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Even got to go through the Merc engine plant, but we weren't aloud to take photos unfortunately.
17. My one is "kind of" (haven't got around to listing) for sale as well if you want some information on it. I'm after a BP legacy so am thinking about taking the plunge. Where abouts are you?
18. I had an nz new v5 wrx and it had different gear ratios. Not sure if the later models are the same, but it certainly made for easier driving at both 50 and 100 km/hr as forth and fifth gears were better matched to those speeds. everything else was much of a muchness other than a few cosmetic differences that only a Subaru enthusiast would pick up on. That was in that year anyway.
19. I've got a dickies hoodie like this: It is the best hoodie I have ever owned. I like the idea of a small (size of a pack of cards) design on the chest or something. As already suggested the subaru stars above our logo or something. I don't think we would be able to get personalised (usernames etc.) for $80, we would probably need to all get the same to keep it cheap. Pitty, I just got back from Thailand. They could have made 5 for $80. The hoodies I found were only about $20 each.
20. The other thing you can do is get a couple of long extensions (from a socket set) connect them together put one end up against your ear and place the other end on different areas of your block, while the engine is running. It works kind of like a stethoscope and you will be able to pin point exactly where the knocking is coming from. If it is the bottom end the knocking will be really loud in your ear when you place it somewhere on the middle of the block, piston slap will be loud on one of the cylinders (rear drivers cylinder seems to be a regular one) and something wrong with the valve train will be loud on the heads or valve covers. A done bottom end will be obvious.
21. nah - dont like zip ups...something else that can fail lol I like zips up the front..........doubt it would fail anyway, it's not like we're talking about a Legacy bottom end
