  1. My custom MAF was actually only 2mm smaller! the HKS MAF tube is also sort of flared out on the inside of it where the air is coming in, so maybe that has something to do with it as well. Still lost as to why the HKS filter worked and the K&N didn't on my custom MAF, really would like to know what caused that lol
  2. IT WORKS!!!! Using the HKS MAF tube. Looked alot cleaner with just the one silicon join but this will have to do. MAF is a little closer then id like it to be to the standard pipe, but the car is running sweet!!! Anyone know where I can buy those little plastic round clip things that you put in the holes to hold everything together? missing a few lol.
  3. Mmmm think I have solved it....Wiretap you are right ill put it to the test tomorrow. I took everything out, Put my old HKS intake in with mushroom filter, this ran fine like it did before I changed anything, now from there i took off the mushroom filter car still running fine with no filter, now from there I put on the K&N filter still running fine and from there I took my custom pipe taped over the MAF plate and connected it to the HKS MAF tube... this also runs fine. So it must be the custom MAF I have done. Tomorrow ill cut the MAF out of the custom pipe and join it all up using the HKS MAF and going by all of the above in should run smoothly....fingers crossed. Only down side to reusing the HKS MAF tube means it wont look as clean and I cant sell off the HKS intake Other thing is the MAF is going to be sitting about 50-60mm closer to that bend in the black standard piping, I'm hoping this will be alright.
  4. Want to change it cause the HKS set up is fail, Sucks in to much warm engine air so really the setup is pointless id be better off having a standard box then the HKS set up. But I don't have a standard airbox and had some free time at work so i thought id pipe it down to behind the fog light cover to keep the filter out of the warm engine air and getting the nice cool outside air straight onto it. I use the car for weekend use, track days and drags, the way ive got the suspension set up its to much to drive it everyday. What black thing to the left of the mushroom? If your talking about the black pipe sticking out the hole, that's the air intake silencer I removed that so i had room to put the new pipe in.
  5. Yeah the hole thing is 3"(76mm) Back to the HKS setup you reckon? Thinking about just running the new pipe with the HKS filter as it seemed to run alright.
  6. The MAF is in the engine bay, its in pretty much the same place as the old one its just been rotated 90 degrees so it going in the side of the pipe rather then the top. Turbulence seems to be the only answer I can find at the moment. Really would rather use the K&N filter over the mushroom one but the mushrooms the only filter it seems to work with.
  7. Yeah MAF is about 2 inch's to the left of the blue hose joint you can see the wires going into it in the pic.
  8. mmmmm I think ill get the pipe back I copied and fit that one up and see what happens. I copied a pipe my mate had done for his verison 7 STI. The only difference between his pipe and mine is that mine is made out of stainless(his is aluminum) and my MAF sits 2mm lower then his. If its not the MAF what else you reckon it could be?
  9. Not neccessarily. Messing with the MAF tube is never a good idea though, as it can cause mis-measurement of the air leading to your car running either too rich or too lean So in Theory.... If i was to cut off the MAF setup on this tube, and take the MAF section out of the HKS one and hose joint it to my new tube it should run fine?
  10. Custom tube, Should be fine tho. its all set up right from what I believe. If it was the MAF tho surely I would be having the same problem with the HKS mushroom filter on it?
  11. Ok so I am having very weird problems ill upload a before and now picutre so you know what Ive changed. This is Before: This is Now: Ok so it ran fine with the old HKS setup(Top Picture). Now since I have put this new pipe on, and changed the mushroom filter to a K&N it runs like s*** idles all wrong and sounds like a 2 stroke. BUT as soon as i take the K&N filter off and put the HKS mushroom filter on the new pipe, it runs fine no problems at all!!! Now if i run it with no filter it runs like crap, run it with no filter and slide the K&N on it runs like crap, run it with no filter and slide the HKS Mushroom filter on.... it runs fine!!!!! Any ideas?!
