  1. Hey everyone

Went to start her up after a couple of weeks and alarm wasn’t responding

No power to anything in the car, I have a couple of amps so I checked their fuses and they are fine. Tried jumper leads in case it was the battery and still nothing. To be clear no hazards or lights or anything at all.

After some advice on what to check please.

Cold start will set off car alarms.

decat makes a big noise difference so do that first before you pick the rear mufflers.

biggest noise I have once warmed up is still the pitch stop. Exhaust is loud but the pitch stop drones so much at mid rpm.

Well f*** that might not be the go then, don't want it setting off the alarm on my 33 when I start it in the garage lol

I didn't realise the pitch stop increased NVH so much, did it make much difference to the feel of the car?

Whats everyone's opinion on downpipe, decatting the standard one worth it or just go for PBMS twin scroll one at $599?

Cool. Should be alright with the r400 then

To be honest I really like the sound of the Tomei Xpreme but from I've seen they are f***ing loud which I don't mind however I'm living right on top of as few neighbors currently which could make that an issue warming her up at 7am haha

My neighbours already tolerate my smokers but I don't wanna push it too far while renting

@Technikhaus If you get a chance I'd love to hear more of the R400 mate even if its just a quick in cabin video because what you posted above sounds nice and finding ELH EJ20 footage on youtube for most of these exhausts is super annoying

  4. Heaps of great advice above thanks for the input, the intake especially makes a lot of sense from a $$$ point of view even if I love induction noises.

So do you guys think I will be safe to chuck a cat back such as the R400 or Xpreme on there straight away if I'm not touching anything else without needing to tune immediately?

If that is possible I would consider going that way while I get whatever other basic bits I want together such as downpipe, fuel pump and three port solenoid then I can get everything installed and tuned at the same time in a couple of months when life is less hectic with Level 2 coming in.

  5. Hey everyone I'm finally getting behind the wheel of an STI again after a three year hiatus.

I've spent the last few days reading through all the 2010-2014 STI content on here and I have a few questions in regards to my new ride.

The cars a fresh import manual 130kms with standard exhaust, standard intake, coilovers and a defi boost gauge and fcon controller. Should have it down here (moved to Invercargill a couple of months back) by the end of the week once its complied and certed.

For power I have no intention of ramping things up hard, I just want a quick daily I can take for blasts to Queenstown/Wanaka etc on the weekend and if I could get a similar power feeling as my old V6 RA (turboback, intake, 18PSI) I would be more than happy.

    So my questions are:

If I'm looking to do intake and exhaust, should I definitely be looking at a downpipe and new fuel pump at the same time and a tune? I don't want to f*** the car up and as usual with a boxer all the fuel economy I can retain would be great.

For tuning, if I have no intention of chasing 300hp atw do I need to look at an aftermarket ECU or can a tuner do everything required with the stock ECU as it is? This car will likely never see track time so I don't need flat foot shifting or anything like that.

For tuners, I've noted APET in Dunedin and SAS in Christchurch recommended on here. Any pros or cons in relation to the questions above?

Any recommendations for intakes from GRB owners would be great as I can't see any major difference between them, I want to maximise the auditory experience for intake and exhaust all I can 😂

Anyway f***ing stoked to be getting back behind the wheel of an STI and excited to get back among this community even if its a bit quieter round here!

EDIT: I've seen a few 2010-2013 JDM import owners chasing cruise control - After having some luxury cars during my hiatus I will be all over this too so hopefully one of us can nut it out

My exhaust wasn't touching the subframe, but at certain rpm, and with enough movement in the hangers, it would reach a resonant frequency which vibrated against the subframe. Sounded like a metallic woodpecker. If the exhaust got hot enough (street sprint or whatever) it would go away which I attributed to the exhaust getting longer and having just enough clearance for the vibration.

Same thing for me, got the pipe modified slightly and we good I'd almost start here OP

  7. Silly question time, V6 RA has slight hesitation at 20% throttle around 3000rpm and nowhere else, more pronounced in lower gears and barely at all in fifth

Any ideas what this could be? Pulls fine makes boost fine, if I hold the revs at 3000rpm in gear I get little pops every 5 or so seconds

  8. Hey guys my V6 RAs quick rack is stuffed so I wondered if it is possible to use a normal WRX or STI steering rack in its place with no or little modifications as I would assume they are easier to find.

My mechanic is pushing for me to let him send my quick rack to a hydraulics guy he knows to get fixed, can anyone enlighten me as to whether or not they are likely fixable? Was leaking heavily on one side and he is hinting the $1000 mark which sounds ****ing expensive to me.

Also if anyone has a V5 or V6 quick rack I would be quite interested so get at me

  9. So I imagine I will need to make another thread to get decent coverage but does anyone know if I can use an STI steering rack in place of the RA quick rack?

I am going to make a thread looking for one but I imagine they are rare as hens teeth and I don't have much use for the quick rack in a street car so if it will all go together well enough I may look into an STI one instead.

Actually anyone know if the racks can be bought new? and the pumps? Maybe even a V7 or V8 one if they will fit if they are still available

  10. Cars been running fine since I got it last week, had it looked over tested and came back all good

On Friday I got back from Taupo and took it into dtech to enquire about an electronic boost controller and nothing was out of the ordinary, but while out last night heard a whistling.

This morning was sounding like this

    Any help appreciated

  11. Definitely stay safe people

s*** cunts who rip off peoples pride and joy should get dumpstered no doubt about it

Part of the reason I don\'t like to go to town anymore in Tauranga is the only real parking is across the railway tracks and even with cameras around thieves are aplenty.

Bayfair carpark also has a pretty bad name, yet again with cameras around.

I work at Papamoa Plaza so I am constantly walking out the front to see if my baby is safe in the carpark

I am probably more paranoid than most though I even lock my car at the petrol station, have done it with the missus inside a few times which gets a wtf look from her but once you have had a car ripped off you become excessive compulsive paranoid.

Hopeflly most places start upgrading to decent quality surveillance systems soon theres no bloody excuse now as 720p and 1080p cameras cost little more, and still less than the old ones used to, and storage space for surveillance systems is ridiculously cheap now.

  12. Can just unbolt the cat and rip it apart or is it a cut job?

Stopped at Macs Mufflers today and he said he wouldn\'t take it out for me, reckons its illegal to remove either cat (the ones at the headers or the one by the muffler) because it was NZ registered July last year

  13. Hey folks

My BH5D has a really quiet burble due to a completely stock factory exhaust system bar the muffler which is a fujitsubo

I am wanting to increase the volume a bit, moreover get that deep subbie burble and an angrier sound when it comes on boost because it sounds pretty docile at the moment.

I inquired with a local exhaust shop about removing the cat and the restricter closest to it (two restricters total, he suggested to only remove the cat and the restricter closest to it, again tell me if you guys think I should do both or neither) and was quoted $150 to cut the section out (roughly 60cm) and replace with a straight section.

I could be completely wrong here and if I am I will gladly pay the money, but I couldn\'t shake the impression he was trying to make a quick buck off me and it seems expensive for a 50-60cm straight section and 5 minutes of welding?

For anyone in the exhaust trade apologies if this offends your sensibilities but I am trying to save for other mods and I had a similar thing done to my Skyline for $60 a couple of years ago (would go back there but they\'ve moved to fuck knows where)

    Cheers for any advice
