  1. BUMP - Ok guys, really need help now! :)

So, car runs mint, oil is perfect AND it flew through a TK test.

Symptoms are; burning coolant and it\'s eventually coming out the exhaust, but it\'s not missing or bubbling out the radiator?

I think its the Head Gaskets, but how can I know for sure? If i get under the engine, when I turn it off I can hear it kind off \'breathing\' like air is being sucked into the system...

    Any thoughts?

    Please :)

  2. Hey guys,

short story is I have a 2L TSR second gen legacy.

Drove it yesterday morning and within 10 mins notice the temps up and manage to get home without it getting too hot.

Had to refill the entire radiator with water to check for a leak, and unfortunately I could eventually see a tiny bit of steam/water coming out the exhaust.

The coolant isn\'t bubbling yet when it\'s running, and it\'s not missing at all.

Just want to confirm this is 99% likely to be a head gasket? And that there aren\'t any obvious ways for it to leak at any other point in the system?

Had the cambelt done last year, so will likely try and get this fixed. It\'s something I\'d feel I could replace myslef, just don\'t know anyone with an engine hoist/would prefer to pay someone to help for a day to make sure it\'s all good.

    cheers guys :)

    Cheers for the advise guys.

Ended up going to pick a part on saturday, managed to find a few parts that had snapped on my car, and even got a new momo steering wheel so will need to fit that.

Also found a leggy that had some new looking Nolathane N45440 bushes, which i got both sides for. Put them on and then struggled for a few hours as the control arm bolts didn\'t want to go back in!? Managed to eventually get them going and passed it\'s WOF yesterday :) now to install that steering wheel

You need to thread them all in very slightly before tightening, if you do up one most/all the way before putting the others in it makes it far more difficult

Cheers man, it was more that neither of them wanted to thread when I put them in. I ended up getting a tap and tidying up the thread, and filed the bolts a bit. Eventually got one started and then the second bit as well

  4. Cheers for the advise guys.

  5. Cheers Guys, yea quotes for the bush are around $100 -$120. If you could point me in the direction for a DIY it would be greatly appreciated. I can do most things with the car. Exhaust I\'ll have to look at, but not too sure how to do it myself.

Had the cambelt done at highbrook last year and they thought it looked good, I\'m not too worried although the mrs is! haha

  6. Hey guys,

Don\'t really know a lot about suspension issues, but given some instructions etc I can work my way through things.

My shocks are suffering from what I believe is the dreaded "knocking" noise....

Cars a 98\' legacy TS-R with 170,000km\'s on the clock.

When coming to a stop, the car stops but then you hear a thud and it feels like the rear of the car is dropping or stopping at a delayed period.

I\'ve seen how you regrease the struts etc, but these are considered to be "gas pressurized" which has left me thinking I shouldn\'t touch them...

Just wanting to know what should be done/replaced/changed

    cheers! :D

  7. Cheers for all the info guys, I\'ve sourced all the parts I need.

I had a look back through all the records and don\'t see any mention of the rotors being replaced....

It\'s a 98, so is there anyway I can visibly (or some other way) see if the rotors need to be changed?

I also have a clunking noise from my suspension (when I added weight to the boot slowly it suddenly dropped a long way) I presume this is the sticky grease/butter grease thing and I can take the struts out when I do the brakes and regrease them?

  8. Hi guys, am looking at brake pads for my 98 TS-R....

I am prepared to change these myself, however am unsure as to the condition of the rotors, Not sure when they were last skimmed or replaced but don\'t want to replace the pads then find I need new ones...

phoned a few companies, pit stop, midas etc and they were charging $300 to replace my front pads which seemed ridiculous - what\'s a fair price for new pads, fitment and then on top of that new rotors or skimming?

At this stage will probably go to Highbrook as they were great with my cambelt last year. cheers

  9. Hey guys, got a 98 TS-R legacy.

Anyway, replaced the heater core a month back now, and as soon as I did I could hear air bubbling/gurgling in behind the dash, thought no biggie, the system needs to be bled properly as we did it rather quickly. So one weekend I drained all the coolant and refilled the system (on an up-slope, with the heaters on etc), still the same problem!

After doing this 3 times, last weekend I decided to take the hoses off and flush the heater core (looked fine) and re-filled; still the same noise!

It's really annoying (usually at higher revs so when you start to engine brake etc).

yes, the heater works perfectly, it's not overheating and it's not leaking coolant; but somehow air is either staying in there and not getting out, or it's leaking in but doesn't leak....

    Help :-\
