  1. Righteo, so.... Just got my first twin turbo (99 GTB) but by no means my first Subaru, I\'m now experiencing the delight that is the TT system. Just before I go further - yes I have searched first, but my situation seems to be quite odd compared to some of the other TT issues. Firstly, per the title - there are NO codes on the ECU ... at all, and the check engine has never come on. Basically my \'206kw\' GTB is actually a low compression non turbo .... my Terrano would be quicker. No primary or secondary. When accelerating there is a slight high pitched whine that is speed related but that\'s about it. The car is stock as and really well looked after - 160 odd kms. So far after hours googling - UKLegacy, NASIOC, RSLiberty etc etc I\'ve tried a few of the first obvious checks - I\'ve taken off all the vacuum hoses one by one and blown/sucked through them whilst listening for leaks or cracks but can\'t find anything. I\'ve also carb cleaned all the solenoids in the BBoD and in the passenger guard, but nothing. I\'ve checked all those vac hoses too. I\'m basically down to getting ready to pull all the intake etc off and check if the primary is actually spinning, I\'d be very very surprised if one of the turbos has siezed given the general condition of the car through ..... but I was wondering if there are any other suggestions I could try? Like in this thread: http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,36146.0.html Could I simply remove the wastegate actuator hose and see if that forces it to boost? I\'ve also been perusing this thread with similar symptoms http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,5422.0.html where someones car isn\'t boosting but they get a CEL. Any suggestions for where to next would be appreciated, in particular if there\'s a way I can \'force\' it to boost? thanks!!!
  2. Hey guys, I\'m after some ACL bearings for a rebuild, but the ACL site gives several options as below - I\'m wondering if anyones bought them for a gen 1 CDB before, and if they recall what part numbers they had? Options are below: Rod bearing: is ours 48 or 52 journal? Main bearings: we\'re #3 right? And I guess it makes sense to do mains and rods instead of just rods at the same time? Not sure why it gives 2 x options for each Cheers 0
  3. Oh, credit to SAS too really, he spotted it first
  4. This. And that\'s why I\'m glad I didn\'t call out the seller as wasn\'t their problem at all. I bought some GTB CV\'s and voila, noise gone, so totally my bad.
  5. Cheers guys, they\'re the older round ones which like to tear in half on demand
  6. Can anyone think of any reason why wagon engine mounts wont fit a sedan (BC/BF?) They look very similar and I\'ll probably buy them unless someone can advise that they\'ve tried this before and it didn\'t work....cheers!
  7. All good fella, ill get a new one when i can then, the white RS is going to be my speed demon so no way I\'ll risk running it as is
  8. I\'ve only just got it, it\'s been sitting for ~5 years apparently. Rest of car seems really tidy and clean..... I\'ve got a replacement fuel pump/filter to put in, thats how I found it in the first place!
  9. Just pulled the fuel pump ion the donor leggy to put an aftermarket in, and this is what I found: Even if you could get all the fuel out, is it worth the risk to keep using it?
  10. Yup, after speaking with the seller (farmside) and doing a few checks, it seems it is LSD after all (Checked crown wheel, removed axle subs etc). The diff is still making a racket thought and when you put any pressure on the driveshaft it slips and spins (alot like a clutch). He\'s kindly agreed to send me a new one and I\'m going to send him back this one to have a look at.
  11. Sweet, good to have the clarification. I\'ve just rung the seller and spoke to his brother and he\'s very puzzled as to how it got mixed up but has said he\'ll get me a 4.44 no stress so simple mistake all sorted now. Thanks heaps everyone for the input as always
  12. Nope not that one - it was on trademe, by a guy with a unique name who exists on here in that same town with that not too common name so I\'m just guessing, I haven\'t drawn any conclusions yet and hence I\'m not whinging with the name until they\'ve had the chance to ignore me or be a dick about it But yeah - it was advertised as an LSD diff from a GTB - came with a gearbox too which I hope isn\'t in the same condition. And nope - no sticker at all which makes me a bit more suspicious. I can believe that someone might not know it\'s LSD, but if you turn the axels you can her it\'s fucked anyway...even a rookie would know that.
  13. Yep I see what you\'re saying, I might take it into Subaru for a final confirmation. I will give him a couple of days to respond and will go from there, hopefully he comes to the party, I just cant see how someone who is mechanically minded enought ot remove the parts form the vehicle wouldnt know whether they\'re a) actually selling what they\'re claiming (LSD) or b) know that its making grinding noises anyway and that it\'s not right. CUDDAS - how much you want for it mate? I could get it picked up??
  14. ARRRGHGHGHG time to sort this out. And thansk for the help everyone,
  15. I\'m not too sure about the LSD type bro....any ideas how I tell? Hopefully the pics below help a little. And yeah...Leone.....I\'m with you on the noise thing, doesn\'t seem normal at all I appreciate the help....
  16. I have the rear diff off my car - it\'s a 4.44 LSD, supposedly from a GTB. I bought it off a person on here who shall remain nameless for now. When I spin one of the shafts lightly it seems OK, but when I put a bit more load on it (this is just by hand) the shaft starts grinding and skipping and the other side turns in the opposite direction. This happens no matter which side of the diff you are turning the shaft on. When I compare it to a 4.11 diff I have off the car (it spins very smoothly and evenly, not to mention it doesnt make a noise at all and both shafts turn in the same direction....) I can\'t help but think this one is rooted? I\'ve skipped through the service manual but the troubleshooting doesnt describe anything of the sort. Any ideas?
  17. Nice offer thanks mate dont think the shipping would be very economical though!
  18. OK i\'ve now hit a new snag - the driveshaft doesn\'t bolt up to the diff! The bits in red below are what I\'m talking about - the holes in the driveshaft side are about 3-4mm closer together than the holes on the diff side. Argh! Do I need the d/shaft from a 4.44, or can I just unbolt the plate off the diff and replace it with the smaller sized one from a 4.11?
  19. Did a compression test today, started on cyl #2 (passenger-front), was 135 which is slightly out of spec (141-175) but that was the cylinder which has been gushing fuel so I was expecting something badly wrong. Tried cyl #1 (passenger-rear) and that went up to 150 then steadily dropped. Father in law turned up (hes been a mechanic for 40 years) and thought that the tester was prob faulty as it should hold pressure regardless of whats happening in the cylinder so im going to retest that one. He also commented on the fuel coming out of cyl #2 - apparently somethings seriously wrong there! Might be fuel pressure regular, or injector stuck open or something - im hoping for an easy fix!
  20. Yeah I\'m thinking the poor girl is in a fairly sorry state! I\'m going to do a compression test before I buy new sparks or coils as the less money expended if it\'s shot to pieces the better I think. But then again it could be unusually noisy because it\'s running an open exhaust/thumbtight exhaust
  21. Can\'t be fucked man, I\'ve got a couple of spare coils there but it would be some co-incidence to have stuffed the coil between first start after drenching engine and now?
  22. Well pulled all the sparks, found the problem with cyl #2, pulled the plug out and it was drenched in fuel. Changed it, re-started, same problem exists, fuck it, new engine time. /thread.
  23. Cool thanks, I think it was at 30-ish with vac disconnected. I\'ve checked 2 x front spark plugs, the rear ones look like they\'re a bit more effort...lol
  24. I don\'t know what the deal is now - started it with the exhaust on (bolted fingertight) this morning, sounded OK but a bit shaky at idle. Could smell heaps of fuel which concerned me. Keep it idling for a few minutes and could see fuel or a fuel mix coming out the exhaust gaskets by the turbo. Maybe it\'s only running on three and pouring all the unburnt fuel out. The other option is it\'s something to do with the fuel pressure reg running either way to high or way to low, I have no idea what PSI it should be set at.
