Hey guys, my mates 2003 GT legacy cam belt tensioner went south and the cam belt stripped, he replaced the cam belt and tensioner in the hopes nothing was hurt in the motor, but now its making horrible noises, guessing a bent valve or similar.
Im just after a bit of advice on what the best option is... 1)pull motor down and rebuild, or 2) buy 2nd hand motor.
Hes wanting to do this as cheaply as possible as he was planning on selling the car anyway, hes pretty mechanical and I\'ve done my fair share of tinkering, he can get a 2nd hand motor for $1800 with 90,000kms and a 1 year warranty.
I suspect a rebuild would need to be done by a garage, which means $$$$$. However an engine swap i think we could handle. Obviously the turbos, manifolds, alt etc would all need to be swapped over to the replacement motor and a gasket kit would be needed. How long would you expect it to take 3 semi mechanical men to swap out a motor?
Any advices would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lee
