  1. Hey all, For those who haven't heard of this, all it is is putting washers between the midpipe and muffler flanges to effectively create an 'exhaust leak.' So this morning I did this on my BP5 GT and I have to say I am actually rather impressed with the result! I have been tossing up between getting a custom made or prefab setup but because of these cars having 2 mufflers it was going to be a $500+ job either way so thought I'd give this a go to see whether I could stand the extra noise before taking the next step. It has really just given a louder and deeper tone across the rev range. At idle and cruise it gives a nice low, discrete note but when you get up it it really barks at you and sounds dam good (in my opinion) with a similar sound to factory, just a little louder. I know there's going to be haters on this but for the 8 washers (80c worth) and 15mins it took me to do, I'm more than happy with it and would recommend it to anyone thinking of spending up large on a pair of mufflers just for a little more noise.
  2. Thankyou that's all I wanted to know.
  3. Hey guys thanks for the replies. I had read up on all the threads on here before doing the job... I used Keltiks DIY Thread as I guide for pads and there is another sticky somewhere on doing the rotors which were both really helpful and got me through the job as it is done and back together now. The only thing I want to know is is it paramount that these pads go in the way it shows in the link I posted earlier? It talks about outboard and inboard pads and it seems I have done mine the opposite way to what it shows as this was the way the shop had done it for me on the last set of pads I did. Am I just worrying about nothing?
  4. Hey all, So I took on the task of doing the front rotors and pads on my 04 BP5 on the weekend. Got it all sorted after a bit of swearing cos man those inside pads were a mission to get back in. Now I've just been looking up how to bed in the new brakes and came across a write up on legacygt.com on how to do the pads and after reading this I've realised that I have put them in with inner and outer tabs the wrong way round. I just copied the way they originally were and they had been put in by a tyre and brake shop beforehand so you'd think they were right but it seems I've been led down the garden path. So my question is... Does this mean I have to start from scratch and put them in the way it shows in this write up? http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/project-mu-front-brake-pad-installation-139141.html?t=139141 Thanks guys!
  5. Happy to hear it but not surprised at all mate... He def knows his **** alright!
  6. Just wondered whether that was a full 100k service including all fluids as well? I have on a previous car but only had the belt done so I wouldn't know what the whole lot would be. And on the supply of the kit, I'm sure he could source whatever it is you were after too.
  7. As far as Subaru mechanics go you can't go past K G McLeod up Waverley way. Alan knows subarus like the back of his hand and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else, especially not southern motor court. What are all the 'goodies' you are talking about too?
  8. What a GC! They're mine haha cheers man
  9. I might try and get those Bilsteins yet only thing is he's not keen to ship them. If I got those would go with some pinks too... Who are you guys getting yours through? If I don't get them will def look into some adjustables... Those of you who have them, what brand have yas got?
  10. Been rethinking the adjustables route as I'm wanting to recondition my Bilsteins soon anyway. So add the cost of springs on top of that would I just be better off going with adjustables? Or better off sticking with standard?
  11. Looks dam good too! The front of mine sits about that low now after putting the springs in which I'm pretty sure were H&R too. The back annoys me now cos it looks like its sitting too high. Does it go the other way if you put the rear springs in as well? If I wanted to go back to standard height would I just keep the factory front spring and put a new standard rear set in to cure the saggy butt?
  12. Hey guys Just wanting to know what setups people are running in their wagons. Ive not long lowered the front of mine to even out the ride height but it has made it ride and handle pretty averagely. So just seeking advice on what some of you guys have done that has worked well with ride quality, handling and overall look. Trying to avoid adjustables though.
  13. Hey guys, Just looking at getting my car E-tuned through Cryotune and he has asked for a copy of the current ROM. I have a cable that I thought was the correct one and have been logging with no worries but it will not let me read the ECU through Ecuflash. Does anyone locally (Dunedin) have one that I could borrow for awhile while I\'m getting the tuning done? I just don\'t want to buy another one, wait a month for it to get here just to find I have the same problem. Of course Beersies would be on offer. Thanks to anyone who can help out in advance.
  14. I\'m taking the mechanic for a ride while it does it not sure if he\'ll have it plugged in or not though. This issue doesn\'t have anything to do with the tune I don\'t think but I\'m sure the wastegate flutter or whatever it may be does! I\'m back at factory tune atm and thinking of just staying there tbh. Either that or get a cable do some logs and go with Cryotune... there seems to be some very positive reviews on his work! OR ... Do I get the tune put back on and then go with an outfit like Cryotune to smooth things out a bit more? Just not wanting to completely waste what I spent on the tune or would it be better just starting from scratch?
  15. Hey guys thanks for your replies. Took it into the outfit that did plugs for me awhile ago and told him what was going on... he was almost certain from my explanation that it would be an o2 sensor. Getting it checked out and sorted next week and can\'t wait! Never had any codes show up... would signs of this failing show up when logging? Thanks for your offer too Alistair but unfortunately I\'m at the other end of the country in Sunny Dunedin! It does fart around when its cold but I thought that\'s just these newages did so as you can\'t get them assholes from cold? And what am I meant to be doing as far as the multimeter test goes? Thanks!
  16. Thanks again Rosssub but it\'s back to the drawing board or, more specifically, the garage! Tried the other sensor to no avail, maybe even ran a little worse for a start... Would that be usual? Anyways don\'t think that is it after trying that out so maybe IACV? But that wouldn\'t cause flat spots at 3-4000rpm though so leave it to the pros I think! About the reset too... Does that method work with the newage\'s?
  17. Hey all just a quick question on the potential afm issue. Going to swap it out for a mates one tonight but have no way of resetting ecu after... Is it necessary to do so or will it be fine without doing? Cheers!
  18. Mint so no need to touch the WGDC or will they both need adjusted? And just dialled back at low revs or adjust the higher load boost too? That\'s where it seems to be happening. At times when I give it some at around 3000rpm in a higher gear too it will stumble a bit before taking off, do yas think that could be related to either of the issues or is that something I will just have to live with? Thanks again for the help.
  19. Got it done at APET down here in Dunedin. Pretty sure its not a pre-set map though, he did it all on the dyno from scratch and pretty sure he did test drive it afterwards just maybe not up to boosting in 4th though where it actually started to happen. The guy who did it and one of his mates are both running the same tune on the same cars but they are having no issues so my guess is the downpipe/extra flow is whats causing it for sure. It idles all good just takes awhile to get there sometimes. It will drop right off when you come to a stop sometimes but then come right but I\'m not sure if that and the wee miss/fluctuate would be linked as it has only started doing the latter just recently.
  20. It would just do it as I tried to give it some, could only get it in higher gears and each time was up a slight incline so higher load too. Yep standard everything and no boost gauge yet but thinking of getting one sussed so I can keep an eye on it. Just yesterday got it flashed back to factory and it hasn\'t done it at all since then so must be something tune wise not right eh, should I just say thats what I want him to focus on? Also got a wee miss or surge going on at low revs in particular (1500-2000). Really noticeable when I\'m in traffic. And if I bring the revs up to that just sitting it will fluctuate quite a bit. Any ideas what that could be?
  21. Hey all I\'ve just started experiencing what I thought what just wastegate flutter but after watching a compressor surge video on here I\'m rather confused and think it\'s quite possibly that now. This never happened at factory but AFTER a tune it has started. Just noticed it the other day pulling up a slight incline in 4th and it started chuffing away. Managed to replicate it a couple of times... only seems to be in the higher gears, particularly 4th & 5th. Btw, BP5 and only mod is a Subtech downpipe. I don\'t know enough to take it to the tuner and say what needs to be done to fix it so any thoughts from you pros would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all in advance.
  22. If I was in Auckland id be keen as man but unfortunately I\'m at the other end of the country. Will see if I can get it sorted down here, if not I\'ll be heading to chch!
  23. Ok well maybe I\'ll go back in and we\'ll give that a crack... Need to be disconnected each time before starting?
  24. I\'ve found those ones/knew where they were... they are paired with the black plugs as well yeah? Just to confirm... you DO have to plug them together to be able to reflash the ecu?
  25. Really? Wheres the 2nd set? And what do both of them actually do? Have you come across any issues with these when tuning?
