  1. Great idea...! I look forward to seeing it once its done! I wanted to buy a Type R and put a wide 22B kit on it, but ended up getting an RA instead and I'd rather keep it original... Here are a couple of pics of conversions: A NZ conversion: The real deal:
  2. Bolt on is the way to go. I have a 3" HKS Hyper Dragger (which is 101DB loud!) needless to say it is not warrantable, but sounds great! Here's a a link to one on TM. It will need a new downpipe though...!! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Other/auction-231568688.htm Pics of mine:
  3. cpt kernow - Thanks for update. Ichi Ban - Thanks for the offer mate. Just wanted my mechanic to try sort it out first as I have a year warranty and would loose this is someone else worked on it. I finally picked my car up yesterday. The problem was a little more extensive than we initially thought... All these problems keep coming up (from the previous owner...!) My mechanic showed me silicone between the casing sections and told me the box had been apart before (which I thought nothing of...) Somewhere along the line the previous owner must have has a similar problem. When we removed the 4th gear assembly shaft we notice the hub was badly bent (so I replaced that). Then on closer inspection I noticed the inside of the casing had been a bit ripped up (see picture below)! We spoke to a rally mechanic and he has heard of people bending the hub to allow the shaft (4th) to be tightened further into the casing - this may not have been enough so the casing was hammered / deformed! To cut a long story short, the gearbox had a shim / 4th thrust washer which was too long causing the shafts not lining up correctly and 4th not engaging properly (see the exploded view picture below - washer is colored in red). I have had to replace everything other than the gears and the shafts. Luckily Hamish at H & N is a good guy and he gave me a new casing and did all the work (cost free!) which I really appreciate. I have to say Hamish has been very helpful and did a great job finding the problem in the end. A picture of some of the casing damage. Look in the top left of the picture at the cylindrical part. Pictures of my DCCD (centre diff). Exploded view.
  4. philwalter - sorry about all my question etc... on your thread! Have you fixed your problem yet? ??? My car is still down at H & N Automotive (been there a month tomorrow!) I'm beginning to think its a waste of time and that I should try another gearbox specialist, because its getting a bit ridiculous now! Hamish (the mechanic) is now saying I need to replace 4th gear, but I don't want to fork out on this if its not the problem! I think I should rather buy another Type R or RA gearbox with low km's off trademe. I considered a 6 speed, but I love my ratio's and would not want to change them because this is what makes an RA quick!
  5. Only problem is that's been parked up for the last 6 weeks! Doesn't say much for a mechanic does it... He ordered a set of CR KAI (Work Rims) (sold his gold 18's) and the Works still haven't not shown up!
  6. True Yeah, I'm rollin round in the Leggy...! :
  7. Hey buddy, I'm not the one who has a re-built engine am I...? May be heading that way, but that's besides the point...
  8. Yeah, desperate to sort this out now...! Just got back from my mechanic and he said he's sorted the miss out, but the main reason my car is back at the workshop is because I had my gearbox re-built (because it started jumping out of 4th). Replaced everything (other than gears & shafts as they were good condition) and from day one after having the work done it continued jumping out of 4th! The mechanic gave me a year warranty, so he's covering all costs! ;D Pretty frustrating hey! I will see if the miss is really fixed "this time" as he always tells me its running perfectly! May be a sign to change mechanics hey...... :-X
  9. I'm having pretty much exactly the same problem with mine... Good luck figuring it out! Mine has been doing it for about 5 months now! It all started just after I had my timing belt replaced (which skipped 2 teeth - due to previous owner replacing belt only without water pump and tensioner!) so I thought it was timing, had that checked and perfect. We then thought it may have nicked a valve, so did a cylinder leakage test (perfect) then did a compression test and compression was slightly low, buy even on all cylinders! Since then, I've changed my O2 Sensor, IDC, TPS, Crank and Cam angle sensors, coilpack, tried a new AFM and changed the plugs = still the same! My car is currently at my mechanic (should be getting it back tomo...) so I will let you know if its sorted.... Good luck with yours, hope you figure the problem out before you go down the same route as me!
  10. Thanks mate, I'll go past the garage after work today and suggest the mechanic checks the selector fork. Here's a pic of what it looked like once the casing was removed.
  11. I have the same problem and would love to know the cause... ??? I had my gearbox completely re-built because it was jumping out of 4th, it cost my 2k and is still jumping out! I replaced all synchro's selectors, hubs etc etc etc.... (basically everything other than the actual gears and shafts - which were in perfect condition). My car is back at the mechanics trying to sort this issue out!
  12. Get one mate... What type is up to you. Different companies make different sound levels. I'd try stick to getting an original as copies can leak and cause other issues... I have an HKS SSQV (not too loud) after experiencing the meaning of compressor surge... Here's a pic of my VF23!
  13. h8evoz - Nice and definitely unique! I think you should add more pics.... Please... ;D
  14. I still have the Speedlines, I'll probably get a set of semi-slicks and keep them for track days (when my car is finally ready...). They're not really worth much (used...). I got a good deal on the OZ's. Only paid $500 with Falken's!
  15. Found this yesterday, so thought I'd share the link... Some pretty good parts!
  16. Very nice! They're in good condition too! I need to replace mine soon as they're a little faded! I saw your car at Taupo (during the clubsub track day). Stunning car mate, its the only S202 I've ever seen!
  17. cornf3, what IC did you get...? ??? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Engines/auction-222109552.htm I got a set of OZ's this wkend so thought I'd share a couple of pics. I'm not too sure about the gold... so may paint them white or anthracite in a couple of weeks... By the way, my car is looking rather high (for now) because my Tein coilovers are getting re-built so I have a set of WRX shocks and springs in (I hate it...!) Photoshopped to the right height and changed the colour of the rims. I quite like the anthracite (light black).
  18. Nice RAYDEO - an RA!!! Looks like a Version 5... ??? You keeping the tow bar....... ??? ???
  19. Here's the difference between a Spec C and a Spec C RA-R http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F5ogno06PQ&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Esubaru%2Dimpreza%2Eorg%2Fforum%2Fsubaru%2Dimpreza%2Drally%2Dcar%2Dscene%2Dvideos%2F63020%2Dspec%2Dc%2Dra%2Dr%2Dvs%2Dspec%2Dc%2Ehtml&feature=player_embedded They're Enkei Rims - Here's a set if you're feelin rich...! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Wheels-tyres/Alloy-wheels/auction-218010725.htm Bit more info: http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/08/rallylicious-subaru-wrx-sti-spec-c-type-ra-r/
  20. Thanks very much for the pic, I will print it out and show the guy I sold the rims to. They are the exact same ones as you have in your last pic (just STI ones - so Gold). I'm guessing he doesn't like the look of them or something along those lines.... I only got $250 for them so he shouldn't be complaining...! Maybe I should get them back and sell them for more. :D Interesting reading... I didn't know some spacers would not pass a warrant either.... ??? ???
  21. Confirms my suspicions.... Thanks, appreciate all the replies. Looks like I will not be giving a refund this time... :-\ ReubenH - Pitty you had to sell the TE37's! I love those rims!
  22. Hi guys, just a quick question.... Can anyone tell me the stud offset of a 96 GTB legacy? I sold a set of 16" STI rims to a guy off TradeMe and he's saying they don't fit, but I'm pretty sure they should. Thanks.
  23. I agree.......!!!! The stock rims look fantastic too!
  24. Nice car hey! Wonder why you'd want to swap TE37's for those rims....! Bad choice!
  25. Nice! I love pink flaps....! Damn, now I'm not the only white RA with flaps... cornf3 - Can't wait to see your car one day.......! Stunning!
