Before I sold my previous set of tail lights, I used a hair dryer to dry them out completely then I used some off the shelf silicone sealant and went over the areas that looked like where water would be getting through. It was a bit messy, but some fine grit sand paper + soapy water cleaned them up.

i got me some black silicone that is used for the windscreen from repco.. ive put them on the part where there are gaskets but there is still a bit going through. i will try again when it stops raining there are a few hard to reach places in there so i guess i will have to do some by hand lol

Picked up my $2510 Legacy today from Whangerei, enjoying it so far except for the fact that I have already been given a CEL that I will hopefully diagnose tomorrow. Not sure if magically happened 50kms away from the dudes house or he conveniently forgot to mention it to me and or on the auction.

dont you just hate that when it happens.. your already a fair bit away from the guy and CEL lol.. hope its nothing serious

I have the same kit on my car installed by previous owner, the high beam has blowen. I had brought a 60 phillips bulb :-[ didnt realise this was a hid kit.

Where can i buy a high beam? I presume needs the harness piece attached? Not a direct bulb replacement?

The high beam is a regular h3 bulb. If you have the lightwerkz harness then plug the socket with the yellow rubber on the h3 bulb

That plate that the ballast was attached to is steel, it looks like the ballast itself is earthing to that plate.

I think you should take the short black wire coming off the ballast and earth it straight to the chassis.

ok wil give that a try.. what would i do to the black wire on the headlight itself? ground it to the chasis as well?

    Yip, both straight to chassis.

will give it a try and see.. hope it works or im buying me some bulbs lol

Trust me, afaik I\'m right. ;D

so funny thing today i just tested it with the suggestion but didnt work. i bought me some new bulbs too just to make sure and still no go.. :-\

anyone got a spare ballast i can test on my system? lol

Where have you connected the LW main earth?

Is it the top plug that is different for you? Orange and brown instead of blue and black?

yes i have a black ground wire coming from the triangle shaped socket on the ballast but id doesnt connect to the ballast itself. its just screwed on the bracket. what did was tapped the black wire that comes from the headlight (black wire coverd by orange wire cover) to the chassis and left the black wire from the ballast (black wire which is screwed to the bracket) alone

Looking at wiring diagrams, the low beams get their power from the lighting switch.

The lighting switch fuse is the small 20a fuse in the engine bay box, (closest row to battery).

checked that and its working.. tried to stuff in the original headlights, went on fine.. used the a light tester and was still fine

Silly question I know but...Have you double checked the bulbs since the short?

Edit: Also check all fuses in the engine bay fuse box.

yeah i did, i only used one pair which was the right side on the first stuff up.. but could be that too.. i used the other bulb and other ballast on the next try. still nothing.. would the bulbs be affected as well as the ballast when it blew?

Now that you\'ve swapped the orange and brown over, did the fuse blow again?

Edit: In the Pic you can see the orange and brown coming out of the ballast, leading to the blue wire. To double check they are around the right way.

yes checked. i basing from that pic orange is on left and brown is right. swapped and they didnt blow... cant think of anything wrong.. what can you suggest i do next?

yes i have the orange and brown instead of the blue and black then i plugged it red to orange 1st and brown to black, fuse blew, now red to brown and orange to black. nothing is happening. changed the relay just in case still no go
