  1. Correct Not to hijack but I have a 98 BH TT with the engine EJ208DWAKE. Now this has always had a ticking coming from both banks for the 6,000 kms I have owned it. Would the lifters in be solid?
  2. Actually 66 is the most nondescript code you can pull. I also have this code right now and have found an older thread on the subject. Ichi Ban says "most 66's are caused by failure of secondary BOV, they develop a vac leak internally (this triggers CEL when the vac tank empties out when under load) ie no engine vac Primary BOV failure will also cause this code, and the car will only have a small amount of boost (4-5 psi normally) Primary turbo wastegate seizing is another primary cause for 66 Some other items you need to check Vac tank - is it still there or has some pannel beater thrown it away Hose to vac tank - check it for leaks, often is damaged in small frontal impacts Good luck -- The secrets are out" Might help you too.
  3. Poor earth wire running to the starter?
  4. Yeah as a TT owner myself, i don't think I would want to turn up to pick up my car from this particular "small private Subaru workshop" and be told "well we have no idea what actually broke but we have made up our own way of putting your beloved car back together and fingers crossed its as good as the way Subaru's best brains had it in the first place". for a professional workshop, it all sounds a bet too "number 8" for my liking.
  5. For me I woudl most likely say it was a poorly tightened hose clamp between the intercooler and the throttle body.
  6. Just an update: I gave everything a good check over and tighten all the hose clamps, crimps, etc regarding the primary and now the boost is a nice constant. Thanks everyone for there help with this.
  7. Bad Auckland weather and no garage means no looking under the hood till tomorrow. As an aside; Could someone let me know what sort of boost I should be seeing through the first few gears and rev range so I can get a bench mark for my tinkering.
  8. Yes. Tomorrow will be the test of both my skills and the TV3 weather forecast.
  9. Don't get me wrong I appreciate your input but Winger is well known for over charging and I know that there are plenty of smaller operations around Auckland with just as much respect for our cars who don't charge the "arms and legs" you forewarned me about.
  10. Yeah that's not the kind of specialist I have in mind. They seem to do a good price on upper engine cleaner though.
  11. Yeah I at least got the factory amount from my old Second Gen TT but this doesn't seem to be the case here. How did you get on having the boost turned up that high ? I figure with the weekend here I will hook up the boost gauge again (I only got one for this testing so it gets temporarily tapped to the hood) and do a bit more fiddling about. I hope this will give me some answer but I know my Subaru so it will probably just cause more questions.
  12. I need someone to check out my lack of boost from the primary. I live Kingsland so closure to town would be better but pipe up if you know a good place anywhere in Auckland. Thanks
  13. Hey that is useful as this could mean the primary is not giving any boost at all.
  14. Sorry for the high jack but I might have the same issue can you both check out my post here and pipe in if you ahve any advice ReubenH or Phreaked Out if you have any updates on your car. http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php?topic=2403.0
  15. I guys, I bought new wagon just before Christmas and coming from an Gen II Auto everything thing seemed fine as far as power went. Once the new shine wore I started feeling (with the bum dyno) that first gear had no real oomph when driving around town. Today I hooed up a cheap "Auto Gauge" boost gauge and it seems to do the following from stand still (idle) 1st gear: needle jumps straight from -20 to 0 but then pretty much just sits there until gear change at 5k 2nd gear: boost gets up to about 6psi and if I keep on the gas I can get about 9psi before heading for 3rd gear 3rd gear: about the same as 2nd really. It really just feels like the primary is getting no pressure in first gear. I am not to concerned about fixing this myself unless there are few basic tips like check particular (numbered) vacuum hoses, etc. More importantly I woudl like your opinion on whats up before I hit a Subaru specialist. Also if any of your guys think you can fix this and you have a workshop in Auckland (closure to the city the better) then pipe up or PM me.
  16. For that age I woudl be checking Thermostat for replacement, Idle control sensor (that may be the same as "Throttle Position Sensor" for a good clean, also fuel filter for replacement, and spark plugs/coil packs for cracks or replacements. Usually the engine is rebuilt but the "bolt on" units are not serviced or cleaned at the same time.
