Looking to put a towbar on a 04 impreza. Will 1st gen impreza towbars fit? Any designs less likely to scrape on steep driveways? Anyone actually bother removing their removable tongue when not using it?

Can you adjust the caster on some Imprezas? STIs and RAs I imagine?

So not worth trying to squeeze a 6.5" in when a 6" will do. <speaker, that is!> So without sound deadening would I be wasting my time hooking door speakers up to an amp?

How much extra bass do you get from a 6.5 inch over a 6 inch?

2nd gen Impreza sedan Is it 6 inch front and 4 inch rear in those too? Was that round or oval? Could be some tweeters higher up on the front door too maybe?

After some research I think the weight of the rim probably effects acceleration and braking more than steering. Light steering might be about how much rubber is on the road.i.e.circumference and width. 205/50R16 is 1920 circumference, 215/45R17 is 1964 circumference. So not only is the 17" option 10mm wider but there would be more rubber on the road top to bottom too. So the steering would feel heavier 205/50R16 is about the smallest wheel you'd want to put on an Impreza as every other usual tyre wheel combination results in a larger circumference.

They don't seem to like bass, they reverberate with the factory stereo set to <Bass +1>. I'm thinking even factory speakers shouldn't flutter like that at low to mid volume on neutral bass settings. Maybe a previous owner thrashed them and they're stuffed?

The cheap ass head unit in the Impreza looks bad and sounds bad and will be replaced. Was just wondering what people think of the factory speakers? I haven't pulled the covers off to look but got a good gain in my last vehicle just by changing the headunit.

Does anyone have a set of the most basic (non-bucket) seats out of a 2nd gen Impreza for sale? Cheers

Yeah alot of variables in the mix here. Ideally we'd be comparing the same rim and tyre combo 16" vs 17" on the same car. Can't see that happening somehow. Best we might do is: "What difference did it make going from a 205/55R16 to a 205/50R16 on the same rim?"

That 40-45 recommendation must relate to a specific width ... presumably 225s on a 17 so 225*.45 = 101.25 Maybe the ideal sidewall height rules change for narrower tyres as they shouldn't flex sideways as much. Think manufacturers recommended is 205/55R16 (112.75) ... 205/50R16 (102.5) is quite a bit different from manufacturer spec so will have suspension angle and scrub radius implications. Perhaps less offset fixes this?

Yeah the 16" TE 37 very very light. Anybody got some? Would love to know how they feel on the car compared to stock 16" or an 18" Scrub radius is less than manufacturers recommended

Did something change with the seats in MY04 ... same chassis until MY08 wasn't it?

If narrower factory 16s are 7.3kg (16.5 pounds) that would be great. I think the recommended size is 205/55R16 vs 205/50R16 which throws the speedo out by more than 3% EDIT - NZ new Imprezas came with 195/60R15, 205/50R16, 215/45R17 That said those GTB 17s aren't much heavier ... is the offset correct for an Impreza? By my calculations a 205/55R16 may weigh slightly less than a 225/45R17 (of same brand & model) although there can't be much in it and impossible to get info on NZ tyre weights!

Currently have 18s so will be big difference Experimented with wheels on a previous car and a 195 on a narrower 6"x15" rim (same tyre circumference) got off the line more quickly and yes improved fuel economy too. Can't remember the weight difference but it was a enough to surprise me. A drop in stone chip road roar would be good too

I'm thinking about reducing unsprung weight by putting small skinny wheels on my Impreza. I know it will adversely affect cornering and grip but both of those are more than good enough already for the way I drive . Has anyone tried this? 195/65R15 maintains the factory wheel circumference but is lighter and skinner

While we're talking about seat changes ... Anyone know if second gen Impreza seats are interchangeable between models (1.5, 2.0, 2.5 RS, WRX) Also is it safe to assume NZ new and used Jap import seat rails etc are the same same? I'm in the market for some seats out of the 1.5 import model as strange as that may sound. Cheers
