  1. cheers boon, got a crimp tool, what are the round crimps called that you stick the wire in each end and crimp each side, the ones with rubber on the outside.
  2. my soldering iron has bitten the dust and dont wanna buy a new one just for this job. do i need special tools for crimps? i have a wire stripping kit, which may have a crimp pliers in it.
  3. Thanks scoob. You mean on the passengers side inside the carpet in the centre console unit? What is the tidiest method to use to connect my sony HU wires to the loom wires? i was just going to leccy tape them, but that often comes apart over time.
  4. only the mrs listens to the radio unless its cricket or footy :-) thanks
  5. ill have to get under tomorrow with a torch to confirm. are coil overs worth more than normal springs and struts?
  6. Actually now I think about it the mech said they are mcpherson coil overs. Thats different to a standard strut right? All I can say is the car handles amazing, but we want the height.
  7. Sounds pretty easy then, Im fairly mechanical but more so with motorbikes. Thanks all :-)
  8. thanks guys, got all that fear except a torque wrench and jack stands, which i think i can hire. i was thinking a metal pipe instead of the breaker bar, but the breaker bar will work better. i guess ill need a service manual too? ill leave the beer for when ive finished haha much appreciated.
  9. thats what i had thought scooby, thanks for getting me back on track. i now realise what the guy meant was 2 iso looms. as for the aerial, i think you are right. im not sure how im going to get one long enough for the new radio, i guess make one up, that plugs into the plugs near the passenger side.
  10. like i said i take a 4wd kit i had in my lifted landcruiser in oz. its got a shovel, tracks, inflatable jack, all sorts of gear. i really thought more kiwis would be into subs on the sand. i had a brumby once, that was an epic little ute
  11. Im reasonably experienced with beaches in Oz like Fraser Island and Morton Island with landcruiser. Im mostly worried about ground clearance as Ive never entered Muriwai before and not sure what the soft entrance is like? 90 mile I think from memory isnt too bad? I always have a 4wd kit with me, tracks, shovel, inflatable jack etc
  12. I was curious is there one on clubsub? Im in the middle of looking to raise my 250t import, likely with outback springs/struts. When the air suspension gave out they were replaced with a lowering springs/struts, now the tow ball sometimes bottoms out haha. Just curious does anyone take their legacy down Muriwai or like 90 mile beach? Mine has the diff lock button, but sadly the air suspension is of no use now.
  13. well i could take it to my aunts down south for the day. exactly how hard would it be to do and will i need specialist tools? u guys are helpful and motivating, i love my subaru, ive had a lot of new cars but this wagon is by far my favorite.
  14. yeah id have no problem doing it myself except my landlord wont even let me work on the car in the driveway thats why i gotta get a mech to do it :-( good idea about the photo. funnily the car sits flush to the road but makes it look like the rear is a bit more slammed than the front if that makes sense.
  15. cheers for that, you think strong for might do me a trade? i believe these were brand new when put in. also do strong have a mechanic or they just parts? much karma to you folk for helping me out.
  16. Cheers, much appreciated. Should I keep the mcphersons and coils and hock em on trademe or they not worth much?
  17. who cares, the net isnt about being policed by control freaks its about finding and sharing information, right? thanks dakta, thats the route i might take, just the double aerial (male and female, which i believe is just to get extra boost) is an issue and its a non standard length so will need an extended made job to reach. im thinking it easier now to modify the clarion to accept an aux.
  18. guy at repco said i needed 2 adaptors, he confused the FROCK out of me. yeah the aerial has me perplexed, i think it even had 2 aerial wires going in. oh yeah and i also need power source for power aerial.
  19. Ok managed to get the old head unit unbolted, damn those ones further in are a bit painful without a magnetic screw drive head haha. Anyway its a Clarion model. So I see there is only one loom in there. So what I need is a look that matches it so I can wire that male loom to my sony loom? I dont know why I need 2 extra looms, looks like I just need one, one to fit onto the current adapter so I can wire my sony to it? I also noticed on the back of the head unit it had another female input, was round and about 9 holes. Not sure what that is. Also the damn aerial is hardwired into the clarion, what the, to do? Thanks for the help, I know Im a bit slow understanding this stuff.
  20. Its a 97 250t, with the suspension and diff lock buttons on the console. Someone else mentioned outback suspension is a bolt on job. Where could I source these from and how much would be too much to pay? Also how much labour should I expect from the mechanic? Thanks guys, its been an awesome forum to join.
  21. The car side I dont really want to chop as I may want to put the original back when im finished, so I could chop the original radio side and wire that to the sony wires (with its plug that goes into the head unit)?
  22. I have a legacy that had air suspension. It was removed due to cost to replace. The replacement is lowered, the tow bar bottoms out on some drives etc. I was told its coils over mchpherson struts. My question is, and please excuse my ignorance and noobness. What will be the cheapest way to get it back to either original height or preferably 2" above original height? I dont have anywhere I can work on the car right now so its going to have to be a mechanic who does it, but was hoping if I source the parts it might be cheaper. We would like to be able to take it on the sand like Muriwai or 90 mile etc.
  23. i guess it could pay just to pay for the looms as one day i might wanna chuck the old stereo back in when i sell the car? plus i dont have a good wiring diagram to know which wires from the sony head unit go to what on the existing loom. why do i need a subaru loom, thats the bit i dont get, isnt the exisiting radio loom in the car already a subaru loom?
  24. i really dont understand, with looms i need 2, with straight wiring, i need none. why do i need looms?
  25. true but $32 for plastic and copper vs free? not really in the spirit of being a kiwi, but being easy i guess.
