  1. Hey everyone,

Im looking for a good mechanic/shop in Hamilton to take my v7 sti. I definitely want someone who knows the ins and outs of subarus.  Dont want any backyard crap. I see winger is in town, so might drop in and see them.

but local knowledge if theres anywhere else would be great.

  2. started the v7 today... had a terrible rattle from the engine. turned it off.... jacked it up and almost all the stainless lies holding my exhaust wrap on the headers were loose... hence the rattle. and to make it worse the warp is toast and was falling off in strands. so now i have two banks wrapped... and two are not... this shouldn't create EGT issues right???? i found a few stainless hose clamps that fitted so i have tightened those around the remaining warp. SHOULD i just remove it all? and leave it... or re-wrap

    Hey man!

I am a fellow ClubSub Member in Hamilton. I am also apart of WMCC and they have a Zero Tolerance for skids and illegal stuffs. We are more just about cars and enjoying each others company. @QRAF Is one of the main admins for the group so you can contact him if you want to know more otherwise feel free to pop into Supercheap on Mill Street and come say hello. I practically live there and am there most days. Look out for my V7 Wagon out front with the ClubSub sticker on the windscreen. Always keen to meet fellow Subaru owners. Also keen for cruises and parkups :D

This is what i like to hear!! :D i like the sound of that. definitely will have to pop in

I havent been to a WMCC Meet recently but it was certainly setup to not be that boyracery scene and I dont think it is still. Massive turnout at parkups. they attend a few events and cruises. I think they will be a good fit for what your looking for if your happy to not be Subaru specific.

that sounds promising. I will probably go along and see what its like.

  5. So ill be moving into Hamilton to begin a new job in the new year. Ill bring my v7 sti with me, so will be keen to be out and about exploring the area and meet some other subaru enthusiast. Is there a active group from CS there? I have seen the WMCC page but im not really sure if thats my sorta scene. I am not into the boy racer and skids sh!t, but rather enjoy a drive and park up for some decent photos and to talk sh!t with other like minded car nut people

Just out of curiousity would a 2.5 be better and easier and cheaper to build, i mean i know ill lose a bit of revz but is there actually any other dis advantages between a 2.2-2.5?

gotasubys 2.5 holset engine went to 8k rpm im pretty sure. You would have to ask him on the engine specs

This is interesting - my STI seems very average on fuel too - I only get around 300kms per tank around town and 400 - on open road? - is a bit better since i had it tuned - wondering If i need to check my plugs out? - have had a new fuel filter and use 98 as well?

    mines about the same.

Thanks for that! I'll give running on 98 a go and hopefully that makes a difference as I'm only getting about 400kms per tank unfortunately and might even bring my idle rpm down

just dont go WOT, or pin it.... literally nana it and youll be amazed. pretty sure i got 550km to a tank in my old gf8 wagon when i first got it.... promised dad i wouldnt rape it.... i have never made a tank last that long since...

no idea on the ideal sorry...

  8. sounds like boost cut or similar...

i dont think you can run ewg with a factory 2-port. even if it did work, it wouldn't be effective because the duties are on the piss, hence high boost and boost cut issues.  as far as im aware, ewg can only be tuned via spring, bleed valve or mac 3-port EBC/ mac 3-port stock ecu tuned.

Edit: i can remove all boost lines from my ewg and plumb internal back up, but the tune needs modification to accommodate the change. easier to have it plumbed into downpipe with a two bolt flange to change between.

  9. i know this is a band aid fix.... but its another option... worth pulling them apart and cleaning all the gunked up grease out and re-grease em, even put grease nipples on for next time. I recently got this done on mine and the improvement was amazing. handles and rides so much better. nearly 2000km since it was done and still mint. I went with this option on the fact i didnt want adjustable suspension, nor was i prepared for 500 inserts.

F**k me then, i cant for the life think what is causing it!?

sorry i cant be of anymore help. all i noticed was when i took the DW sock off mine the slip connection to the pump was really really loose (think i said that in a previous post), i reckon it was sucking air through there. Factory sock fitted far better. id start with getting a OEM sock, seeing as yours now has a hole in it...which wont help, and go from there.

(sorry for the potato quality photo)....right hand is oem, left is a drand new DW sock. the DW sock caused mine to surge... just like yours. imo with a stock sock and good quality pump you shouldnt surge at all. if its not those items it must be something else...

The stock system should be good enough, but if he has the right sock and is still getting surge, then he must be driving it pretty hard... in which case he needs to keep the tank full or get an external setup... or stop driving so hard on the road and do some motorsport.

driving hard or not the factory system should be fine cornering. my v7 has never had a problem since i used the factory sock... and the injectors are maxed. If the fuel pump and sock is fine it must be something else, fuel reg etc... a external setup would be the last thing id look into.... unless your pushing 350+ hp

Very interesting thanks yes - my pump is completely stock - I thought that the factory sock was pretty small? - what pump and filter would you recommend?

if i can remember correctly some of the aftermarket ones are smaller? my tuner recommends DW over the others. Just use your old fuel filter sock or get a new replacement one.

For a road car there is only one solution... an external fuel pump and swirl pot.

It's either that or never let your tank go below 1/2 full.

I personally think a surge tank on a road car is over kill... and so is keeping it above 1/2 tank. I know someonerunning big power, 1000cc injectors with factory fuel setup and just a drop in fuel pump with no issues...
