  1. gave Winger a ring and asked about it. You\'re right, while they produce the same power on paper, the engines are NOT the same. I couldnt get detailed data but I was told it had cast rather than forged pistons. Guess my question is answered, thanks for the responses!
  2. There doesn\'t seem to be anything else comparable locally at the moment, hence why this one drew my attention. I care most about the drivetrain, but I did notice that the brake spec is a bit lower on the non STI version. Maybe applies to suspension components as well, just guessing though. I understand the pain of spec envy, buying a N/A mr2 when I should have got a turbo one >.<
  3. That is weird as hell. Though the page backs it up.roof scoop \'non STI\' http://www.type-ra.com/impreza-my98-subaru-impreza-wrx-type-r-v-limited/ non roof scoop STI http://www.type-ra.com/impreza-my98-subaru-impreza-wrx-type-r-sti-version-specs/ The scoop, colour schemes and front bumper are obvious differences, but as far as the specs go they appear to be mechanically the same?
  4. after some more searching found some more details - apparently these cars still came with a 280hp engine from factory? http://www.type-ra.com/what-model-is-my-impreza/ (scroll down a bit) This is confusing.. Have requested the chassis number, might help solve the mystery
  5. I suppose WRX\'s are still decent cars, but if im going to get an impreza I want the real deal not an imitation. I\'ve been told the gearboxes and some engine components aren\'t as well built either which is offputting.
  6. Hi, had a look at this car today. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=693816658 Didn\'t get to drive it or see it in action, but Im a bit of a Nub and can\'t tell if it\'s a tarted up WRX or a proper STI? The spoilers, red headers, roof scoop and intercooler look like STI trademarks, but the bumper without foglight caps and strut brace look more WRX to me. Is there a definitive way to tell? I know some coupe R STI\'s had DCCD but not sure if that was all of them or not. Ive googled it and info on the subject is surprisingly hard to find.... : any help would be appreciated.
  7. MY b4 came on Eagle F1s, they feel like a pretty average tyre. My previous leggy had the Bridgestone Playz, and i preffered them as a tyre as they had a very gradual grip falloff, and let you know you were pushing their limits before you got there. The eagle F1's on the other hand suddenly snap when you push too hard, and run out of grip completely, resulting in some nerve wracking understeer on some corners.
  8. Indeed, i just got two new 6x9" speakers put in today so the problem should soon be solved..
  9. I thought i might have a buggered bearing too - when deccelerating my car makes a grinding/whining noise tht seems to come from the front left. But it only happens when in gear. Cant be certain though.
  10. Ok, your post was confusing because when I said 'is he right', i was assuming that he was saying they were legal without a cert. So i think the conclusion is nay for spacers then. On that note, what offset for afm mags would be good to achieve a similiar effect? (and what is factory? 38?)
  11. @Koom - doesn't that page you linked prove that the shouty man is INcorrect? As it refers t those requirements on Low volume (i.e. certified) vehicles only. As for warrants - 1. They could be removed before the WOF 2. I get WOF's at a garage who could'nt really give a damn - i hate the testing station. But you are right if its not legal it is risky.
  12. Do'h! Thanks government cronies, turning a cheap mod into a 500 buck+ affair.. I was looking on trademe and saw this on an auction for one set: "IN ORDER FOR A BOLT ON SPACER TO BE STREET LEGAL IT NEEDS TO HAVE A HUBCENTRIC RING! IF YOU WANT TO USE SPACERS ON YOUR ROAD CAR DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON CHEAPER SPACERS THAT HAVE NO HUBCENTRIC LOCATOR RING - AS THEY ARE NOT LEGAL FOR USE ON THE ROAD LIKE OUR ONES ARE!!!! " ^Is the shouty man right, or do you need certification either way? But here i am thinking that if you kept it conservative, and don't drive like a knob and get pulled over... how many cops would actually know/notice ? auction link: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Wheels-tyres/Other/auction-323914253.htm
  13. Hurro peoples, I've been told that one of the things i could do to my legacy to improve it's visual punch is to fit spacers to the factory wheels to widen the track a bit. My questions on this are: 1. Does this exist for B4 legacies? 2. Is this possible for factory rims and won't fuck up the steering/etc + Is it legal? 3. Where can i buy it / how much? thanking you.
  14. tbh you might be lucky to get 4k fixed. The best offer ive got on mine is 5k, and thats only got 123 kms on it.
