  1. would I need to replace the manifold gasket as well?
  2. So loosen the up pipe etc and try wriggle it in? Haven't had any luck with greasing and forcing it on
  3. Yep that's me alright hahaha. Alright will give it a go. Tune is on Wednesday and front mount is getting installed Monday-Tuesday, wonder if I can get a new one in time they can install it at the same time.
  4. I think you're right, the end does look like it's been cut. Should the pipe be that hard up against the manifold? Does anyone know where I can get a new pipe over the weekend in Welly?
  5. Hi guys, I'm in the process of putting a new turbo in my car and have a tune scheduled for Monday but I've run into an issue with the inlet pipe not lining up with the turbo inlet. It looks to be about an inch off, but the up pipe etc all appear to be in the correct position. The turbo is a Lateral Performance MD321 (GT3071 with custom housings) which i purchased off someone on the forums, it's meant to be a stock location replacement turbo. The previous owner had it in a GC8 and i'm installing it in a v7 STI. Have I fcked up somewhere? Pictures - (hopefully they work)
  6. Does anyone know where I can source these studs (not Subaru, they're $27 +GST each) before the weekend? Need the nuts as well. https://partsouq.com/en/search/all?q=800910340
  7. Sweet have ordered them. Looking at the photo's on the Tomei site it looks like it's a very similar line and NZKW said I can return as long as they're not scratched. Fingers crossed. Was think i should run the breatherless twin catch can setup, so I don't fill the new inter cooler full of oil. Not sure if this is the right approach and there seems to be a lot of different opinions - venturi system, AOS ($$) and breather catch can setup. What are people using and what experience have they had, how often do you need to empty the catch cans on average?
  8. Is this the one I want to get and does anyone know if it tracks the same path as the factory headers? I've got an enlarged Mitchell Motorsport sump that extends further forward than the factory one. http://www.nzkw.com/headersmanifolds-c-104_88_91/ssi-exhaust-manifold-for-impreza-wrxsti-ej20-gc8-p-476.html Redline only seem to have the equal length in stock - https://www.redlineperformance.co.nz/product/ssi-exhaust-manifold-impreza-wrx-sti-ej25t/
  9. Has anyone had any trouble with the SSI headers cracking?
  10. Just double checked last night and it does have side to side play but it's very very minimal. Zero back and forth.
  11. I was having a play with the new turbo last night and it appears to be all good, no play in the shaft and it doesn't appear to have had much use (blades still have paint). Only thing is if I give it a spin it's only spinning around a few times before stopping. Is this normal, i'd expect it to spin for a while longer given it's ball bearing?
  12. I've already bought the MD321 turbo, hopefully it performs okay. Will look to grab an SSI manifold as well. Is there anywhere you can buy Process West FMIC's in NZ? Have been looking on AU sites but haven't been able to find one that ships to NZ yet, and not sure what customs will sting me.
  13. Ah right, knowing my luck that will probably be the case. Will have a better idea when it arrives, fingers crossed. I thought the boost controller switched between a high and a low boost map, I just assumed this changed on the Link as well? Will make sure I ask him. Any ideas on the Intercooler, do you need to replace the crash bar? Anything else I should look at getting? Shopping list Injectors - ID1050x $195 x 4 http://www.nzperformance.co.nz/injector-dynamics-fuel-injectors/injector-dynamics-id1050x-1065cc-fuel-injector.html Aeromotive FPR & gauge $300 - http://www.nzperformance.co.nz/fuel-system/aeromotive-fuel-pressure-regulator/efi-bypass-regulator.html & http://www.nzperformance.co.nz/fuel-system/aeromotive-fuel-pressure-regulator/0-100-psi-fuel-pressure-gauge.html
  14. Ah cool will give Paul a call. What Aeromotive unit would you recommend, would this one be okay? http://www.nzperformance.co.nz/fuel-system/aeromotive-fuel-pressure-regulator/efi-bypass-regulator.html I'm guessing a pressure gauge might be handy as well? The down pipe is a xforce unit I think, one of these - https://www.redlineperformance.co.nz/product/xforce-subaru-wrx-gc8-forester-exhaust-down-pipe/ I think Chris at Prestige configured it so it uses the boost controller when he installed the Link, well I hope so anyway. I can double check when I take it back for the retune. Edit: Any recommendations on a Front Mount replacement?
  15. Okay so I've purchased the turbo, it's a MD321M non billet wheel version. Should be picking it up in a week or so. It was supposedly making around 270kwatw on a forged gc8 prior. Just trying to put my shopping list together - Injectors - ID1050x $195 x 4 what size O ring do I need? http://www.nzperformance.co.nz/injector-dynamics-fuel-injectors/injector-dynamics-id1050x-1065cc-fuel-injector.html Intercooler - Kinda leaning towards an upgraded top mount. Is there anywhere you can you buy Process West stuff in NZ? turbo beanie? Fuel pressure regulator? What else do i need? Worth getting a new exhaust manifold? What I've got already - Turbo back exhaust - eboost controller - link G4 - DW200 or 300 fuel pump not sure which, STM installed it - ACL bearings, v8 nitrated crank, 11mm oil pump, baffled sump.
  16. Ah sweet, is he interested in selling it? Can you PM me contact details?
  17. I thought the td05-18g was good for circa 250-260kw? I have turbo back exhaust, DW300 fuel pump, G4 Link etc and was tuned for 206kwatw with the faulty turbo. The cheapest I can find a new VF34 is for 2.2k, and VF30 for 1600 brand new. I've pulled the VF34 out already to have it inspected and was planning on installing the td05 myself given it's just a bolt on. Surely it can't be that hard?
  18. I use the car as my weekend car, plan was to eventually take it to the occasional track day, haven't got round to this yet though. I will be getting Prestige to re-tune the car once the turbo etc is installed, they performed the current tune (on a Link G4). Chris from Prestige said it should still retain a good idle with that size of injector.
  19. I spoke with Possum Bourne a few weeks back and they said they hadn't had good experiences with rebuilt VF34's. They would generally only lasted a few years before they started to smoke, has anyone else had a similar experience?
  20. Hi Guys, Looking for some advice, my VF34 isn’t performing as it should, appears to have chips on the inlet turbine and doesn’t spin freely. From what I’ve read it looks like the td05-18g is a good fit (car’s a v7 Spec C) for what I’m after – bolt on, not that far off factory spool and has more top end. I’ve been quoted $1350 incl for genuine MHI turbo core and bearings, aftermarket housing, billet turbine etc. from Total Turbo in Lower Hutt Am also looking to replace the injectors and the intercooler at the same time, to get the most out of the turbo. Prestige Performance has quoted me $150 x4 for 1000cc injectors. I assume these are ID1000’s. Is it worth making the switch to a front mount intercooler, or would a good top mount do the job? Has anyone had any experience with Total Turbo or td05-18g’s? Are 1000CC injectors too big/not big enough? I’d like to have room for flexi fuel later on.
