  1. The finish and length of durability will depend alot on if its treated before p/c. If possable get the manifold Chomated first as this will prep the ali for powdercoating and clean any impuritys off as well. Some of the dulux powdercoats offer a 25 year warrenty on ali doors that get stepped on all day. So it should just about outlast the maniold. :D

Once the intake is off, then you just need to look for dried puddles and replace whatever hoses are worn. If you want to be ultra efficient and futureproof, replace the metal sections of those 2 hoses. Ive seen a few rust out. I replaced mine with rubber hose all the way.

Dosn't the crossover pipe have sensors screwed into it? if so where would these go if you were to use silicone?it would be heaps better than metal, no rust.

    Yeah, silicone FTW ;D

  3. Ok so I'm driving down to Taupo for the racing a couple of weekends ago when the drivers 'A' piller plastic cover thingy decides to let go at the top of the windscreen and start flapping around wildly.

not lots of fun at 100+ clicks.

So I pulled over, got out and not wanting to break anything and not having tools with me I sort of stuck it back under the roof garnish and pushed it down to clip it back in and Taadaa!!! fixed...

    or so i thought.

then heading back from the track into taupo on saturday it happens again so this time i just held it on for the few Ks we had to get back and had a good look this time.

It seems that the smith and smith guys that replaced my windscreen a while back broke off the plastic clips that hold these garnish things in place and instead of telling me they just put big blobs of black windscreen sealant where the clips should be, pushed the cover back on and hoped for the best. >:(

(now i know where the whistle has been coming from on the passenger side too)

anyway because there is nothing left of these clips I dont even know what they look like and need to know how to replace them. I have a doner car with what I assume are good ones but I dont want to break them taking them off.

anyone done this or know how to without jamming a flat head screwdriver in there and ripping everything to siht cause it looks sooooo ugly and im sure its letting water in the holes that are left behind and want to sort it out while i have the time

    cheers

  4. Ha true true "boxxer boyz do it better"

The only bits im not happy with are a few small creases on the back window. I had to do that in 3 sections, gutted and front passenger window has a small tear and is starting to pull up from the bottom so I will have to redo it with some off the shelf stuff I have lying around. Btw dont run over the tint with the tool if it folds because the crease wont come out !! >:( any way the whole thing wasnt as hard too do as I was expecting. I watched a few vids on Utube before starting which helped heaps and I will say the more soapy water you spray the better ( does make a mess though )

  5. Could have $2,500 - $3000 for complete job (Including fluids,plugs,seals,etc)

I can do the conversion myself I've done it before and just want something worthy of putting in.

An STI motor is my first choice but dunno if thats even possible with my funds.(or lack of)

As this is my daily driver I can't spend too much time off the road so i'm not too keen on swaping over inlet manifolds and turbos if i can avoid it and i dont think the turbo i have is worth keeping anyway (oil seals leaking)

any ideas on how to get a V 3/4 STI complete and whats reasonable to pay?

also i have seen an auction on trade me for a gc8 model repower package(full engine from import front cut) and am considering this a good option but I dont think its gonna be the stomper I really want !!

    any other ideas?

  6. hi all

can anyone out there help with some advice or opinion?

I need a new motor (and gearbox but that can wait) for my 89' GT Legacy and want to fit something with a bit more poke.

Ive already put another motor in Xmas 07

I was told it was a WRX motor only to find out it wasnt. GRRR!!!

and its run badly since it went in and im sick of trying to fix it.

So now i want to know what version motor is the best option thats gonna fit in without to much hassle and isnt gonna require selling organs to pay for.

I want to keep the water to air intercooler running and still have things like air-con and power steering. Also where would be a good place to sorce something with lowish k's ?

any help/guidance would be appreciated as i get 3weeks off work over Xmas to play with spanners and crawl around on the garage floor !!

    Cheers in advance

    A.D
