Are knock,o2, and MAF sensors all working? That can cause some good fuel burn!

I mean I would only assume so as I have no CEL's or anything and other than replacing or cleaning them I'm not sure how I would tell if they are/aren't working or not properly...

  2. Hey Team  So ended up buying an A-Line and I love it only thing I have noticed is that the fuel economy seems to be terrible?

And that's with out driving it hard, round town i have it in Intelligent mode so far since I've filled it up its done 83km and its use a quarter of a tank!!

When I drove it down from Auckland the best I could manage was 430kms on a tank and most of the time cruise control was on only giving it the boot every now and then overtaking

The fuel economy-ometer thingy in the car says round town its 6.1KMs per Liter which is about 16.3L per 100km

Any Ideas? or is this just normal? I did expect it to not be as good as my Manual Legacy but it seems excessive? what size is the tank? 60L?

The car is immaculate condition and completely stock 101,000kms and running it on BP98

  3. Hi team thought I'd post pics up of my new ride finally decided to go for an STI A-Line and I have to say I actually love it!

This one is a brilliant example 2010 STI in WRC blue with just 101,000kms on the clock has the gold sti brembos too! Has been immaculately looked after with a good service history from Japan

  4. Not sure about Ethanol differences but I know that the BE5/BH5 Engines love it when I bought my BE5 Twin turbo a while back it had been running on 95 and as expected it sounded like there were marbles in the engine lol

Once I switched to NPD100 it immediately stopped pinging and even felt more responsive

Also here in Nelson its actually cheaper than BP98  by about 20 cents so its a no brainer for me not to use it here

Some of you may remember my gold bh5 from a few years ago, I saw it in Nelson yesterday parked up along the waterfront. In a very sad state, was so gutted to see it like that. Massive dents everywhere curbed mags, scratches and just a huge mess.

Its sad when you see a subie in that condition even more so when it was your old car

There are plenty around at dealers bro, you should test drive before shopping around heaps. Test drive was a massive eye opener for me, atleast. just knew I couldn’t have it and that’s saying a lot coz didn’t mind the auto skyline 370 as much initially whic is what I ended up with at the time which I’ll add is also s*** compared to manual version but 10k cheaper so compromised at the time. Drove manual for 15 years now through Auckland rubbish traffic with heavy clutches, light flywheels and still can’t figure out what people complain about, it’s such a subconscious part of driving but so rewarding at same time . For ppl sick of driving manual, their future is also probably self driving cars

That just a personal taste thing don’t mind my ramble. after test drive you might find you like it anyway, in which case good for you! Just saying it’s best starting point since highly opinionated topic

Cheers haha yeah I appreciate your feedback! yeah I haven't tested one yet but will do this weekend

We used to have one before our current manual STI.

The shifts are slow, but you do get used to it, and can kind of 'predict' it, so you just shift a little earlier than you'd expect.

A hell of a lot of fun though, for an automatic, and went surprisingly well.

But when we got the manual, we could tell just how down-tuned the A-Line was.

Thanks for the feedback, well the last auto I had was a 3.0R legacy it did have the paddles but no blipping or anything and Ive never owned a GRB series STI so for Me I think an Auto GRB, (yes Im getting sick of manual for my daily) would be a great option

They look great, lots more room than my BL5 Legacy and I would say quicker than my 2.0L BL5 Turbo?

    the good bits...

they are cheap compared to manuals,

they have a proper torque convertor automatic, not a dopey cvt like the current wrx,

it has nice big paddles, fixed to the steering column,

yes, it does blip the throttle on downshift but ...

    the bad bits...

it's redundant as the downshifts are so slow,

the manual shift is backwards, i.e. push lever forward to shift up, pull back to go down a gear,

the car has less torque than a manual and feels laggier.

    sounds crappier too,

finally, ones i've seen also miss out on the big brakes.

Cheers - it seems some come with the Brembos so I would be looking to get one of those - a few on TM currently

When you say slow how do you mean? is there a big delay in the gear change once you hit the paddle?

  9. Hi team are thinking of getting an STI A-Line (I know its Auto dont judge me lol) just wondering if there are many members on here who have owned one and can comment on them? when using the paddles on downshift doe the car match the revs so you dont feel anything on downchange? or is it like all the classic autos?

Any known issues with the A-lines? I would be getting a 2010+ model

    Doesn't sound good.

Probably isn't limp mode in the usual sense, but when IAM drops below a certain figure it disables boost control so it can't exceed wastegate pressure. Think it's like 0.2 or something like that with normal being 1.0, which sounds like what you have. Messed up fuel trims from pump problems could eventually cause this but other causes are far more likely.

Other causes? what would you suspect?

  11. 15 minutes ago, Andy_Mac said:

How low is the boost? Limp will be like 7ish psi.

So it normally does just above 1bar now sits dead on 0.5bar (7.25 psi) has no CEL or anything and actually runs smooth just low boost and it did it for no apparent reason

I did an ecu reset the other day and boost was back for a while but went back to 0.5bar

  12. 10 minutes ago, Andy_Mac said:

Probably unrelated to your boost issues. The ECU would be throwing a hissy if it was sporadically getting no fuel.

     Pretty easy to check though.

Yea 2010 is the next gen so there will be a huge process for them to analyse and decide if a recall is needed and won't just carry on from the earlier ones.

Thanks Andy yeah i thought it might be related to it, like maybe the ecu is putting it into limp mode because of the issue?

Unsure on years, visually all 4th gen GT cradles seem the same, can't comment on other models.

The connector pins on the cradle are rubbish and can over time become loose enough to arc/melt the connector.

It's why kits like this exist, which happens to be what I did to mine a couple of weeks back.

Interesting cos my dads 09 Outbacks cradle just melted and s*** itself I rang Subaru and they said no there isn't a recall on his model and that they couldn't do anything...

I checked my 07 Legacy at the same time and advised there is one and a letter would be coming soon, recently my boost is down i wonder if the cradle/pump is the issue?

Got a recall letter in the mail yesterday. Pretty good of them to send it out i reckond3113c12efc2a71b4b5df75f5de22bc1.jpg

Hey got his in the mail too today. Glad to get it and can get it sorted out

This is interesting does anyone know why the fuel pump needs to be checked and what year cars this applies to?
