anyone who is busy putting adjustable coilovers and aftermarket engine mounts and roof scoops and deleting their air con.... isn't trying to build a smooth and sensible daily.

since it's all personal tastes, it's not really best to assume what someone likes or dislikes, or that their goal with their vehicle and thousands of $$ spent would be same as someone elses. that's why i added on the downsides which previously weren't mentioned so OP can weigh things up and decide for themselves.

  2. respectfully disagree with people that give out advice that you have 6 gears, use it, enjoy laggy turbo blah blah. sure i can imagine a bit of a wait being worth it if you're building up to 40psi / 500whp or something but when talking of relatively lower power with shortened power bands (band from 5000-7500rpm), not everyone is gonna find that fun to drive in any situation other than on track or the back streets. it is an amazing feeling when you have the space to push it and experience that sudden thrust, but you should really consider how much opportunity you have to enjoy that in your own regular driving conditions and whether sacrificing responsiveness to get a bit more top end power is really worth it.

in my personal tastes as a daily, the stock sti is such a sexy setup and any 'upgrade' should really be preserving the responsiveness/handling and building off that.

  3. i got one of these a few yrs ago from scarles. same brand and all looking back in my email history. same price too.  https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/other-accessories/listing-1723731044.htm?rsqid=51bce0f754aa4dbb959fea4fd86d0b04

chucked that on my car during winter parked outside at the time while i went away for few months for basic. came back, car was mint. nothing to complain about, didn't tear. not that it's particularly windy in auckland though. i put bricks on the corners to keep it all down.

  4. https://www.facebook.com/Hinstarr?ref=br_rs hin chilvers from chch. fb nick is hinstarr there, which coincides with the tm name of starry11 you provided, so high probability it's the one you're looking for. having said that, this acount is some female, guessing the mrs of the actual seller, Jamie Jay Gibson (https://www.facebook.com/jamie.jay.gibson) based on regular tags together and the commentary.

could try mesaging there on either (or both) above accounts, seems to be active, careful fo being too aggressive as i suspect one of them is a kids or his mrs account (also you probably wouldn't progress far in negotiations that way). but first take snips of the people listed as his friends/family etc. in case he blocks you or makes it private and you can't see it later. may have some luck messaging them if get desparate and TM doesnt help with your dispute.

may even get lucky and someone here is a mutual friend.

jamies car / plate pictured below (or so it was in june 2017), may lead you further to finding mutuals that can help you find this guy and do right by the trade. on his fb acc also has some history of subies pictured along with plates, but i guess he dont own them anymore. his jan 30th 2018 profile pic suggests he currently has a gc8 with white wheels or something (i prob got the gen wrong)

hope that somewhat helps you in your quest to find the dude that ripped ya off and ran.

  5. did you try dispute via trademe also mate? maybe also post the sellers TM name in case someone has dealt with him before and has other contact details.  seeing from the FB posts that there are  far too many vf22 shifted daily to narrow it down just based on south island + sold vf22 in recent weeks.

Yeah I was thinking its quite high but then as @Pappu1 mentioned he has got 300kw from a td06 so could work?

I recall someone on here had a Kinugawa td05 20g and make about 225 - 230kw but unsure who it was.

I just want something that doesn't involve twisting and can give me 250kw haha I will be happy -_-

got 240wkw from hybrid td05  on my v7 sti. it was the only bottleneck , everything else had capacity for more. also i should mention it wasn't a fun 240wkw, but what everyone considers fun is different and since mine was some custom one by MSE i can't say if all td05 are like that or if mine was just 'slower' than others. if i knew what i know now, i would have just tried to push a VF turbo to the limits on a low budget and enjoy the superior range in usable power vs turbo tht's all top end with narrow power band. current car isn't even turbo and feels faster than the old one in every situation except lacks the downshift throw back feels.

  7. fairly excessive mate, but depends how you drive i guess and in what conditions? for comparison sake, my 3.7L 370gt is around 12L/100km in auckland rush hour traffic conditions and 9-10L/100km  open road. would be expecting lot better out of a healthy 2.0 non turbo, though for all we know you could be flooring it everywhere you go :)

i never rotated the tyres when i had an sti.

    just regular wheel alignments.

with the move to a fwd golf i also left the tyres alone but you get the fronts wearing faster so i just swap front to rear to even out wear.

depends on the alignment i guess, i do believe both alignment and rotation of tyres wherever possible is very important to extend life of the entire set. this especially when people running different levels of camber.

i have since decided to go for re003s with a square setup at 245 40 19 all around. didnt feel it was worthwhile paying the extra 350ish for the ps4 set. ideally would get from bridgestone westgate but their buy 3 get 1 ran out (took me too long to decide what i wanted). asked around for a few deals on alternative tyres suggested on thread and the re003 seem to present the best value on that deal.

Ill get a pic of that installed later on :)

damn the calipers are looking good. when you paint the letters white, i reckon you should leave out the A so it just shows "SUB RU"

  12. hmm no one has contacts at Mobile right? no reply on their FB , i filled up recently and didnt see anything on signage about ethanol content nor have i noticed difference in milage with mobil 98 vs bp98 which lead me to beleive it does not have ethanol, atleast not the few which i have used out west auckland.

Every tuner from the North Island I have spoken to about gets better gains power wise and less knock on Mobil 98 vs bp98. We only have bp98 down here so cannot compare myself

did you speak with anyone who happened to have ethanol content sensor and could confirm if it had any of that in it?

yes, seems the original link is dead.

i re-found the quote on some biker site

    :D

yeh i found references on kiwibiker too as well as few other places but those are all old, or so i would assume as seemed to get same milage out of mobil 98 as i did with bp 98 on the subaru.. didnt analyse knock count or anything tho.

have enquired via their fb page, will follow up tomorrow if dont receive reply.

  15. GTI too can be tuned for some gains mate. the fuel economy in them is super impressive for what they are, sure they are FWD which is a deal breaker to most but the only one who can answer that would be you. i honestly don't see them in same class (forester vs GTI). if i needed the extra space, something that makes for a great family tourer etc. then would go for the Forester but if wanted nicer handling/ride then the GTI. since you're getting via dealer, getting warranty and all that too then you do lower a lot of that euro anxiety.  since you're working in real estate i'm not sure if either of those hondas you put up would reflect well on you when asking clients to get in. not that theres anything wrong with those cars, but it was my understanding that fair bit of studies have been done on the topic of how people associate your success/trustworthiness in certain trades  based on what you drive.

mobil 98 may be cheaper because it is an ethanol blend ?

    from the mobil nz website...

"At selected service stations in wider Wellington region, Extra Unleaded and Synergy 1000 may contain up to 3% ethanol and Supreme+ and Synergy 8000 will contain up to 10% ethanol. May not be suitable for all vehicle engines, check with the manufacturer before use."

i remember hearing about this few months ago when similar discussion came about and someone raised enquiry with Mobil over it. answer at the time was that this was not applicable to auckland.

having said that, i can't find any news about that at all on the site, it used to be on this page right? https://www.mobil.co.nz/en/synergy-fuels

can you please link to where you found this? if it is still the case then i definitely want to know about it, since if i'm filling up e10 then i'd rather do that at gull where it's significantly cheaper.. and if i wish to stay with pure 98 then i'll know to fork out the extra at BP instead.

i'd forget about rotating, like shuffling the deckchairs on the titanic. xD

although with asymmetrical tyres like the ps4 you can swap from side to side.

stick to the stock staggered setup or budget for 9in front wheels too ?

    245/40-19 is a funky size ?

toyo t1r's are positively stone age tyres, even the re003 is better.

pilot sport 4 is the flavour of the moment.

the ps4s is substantially more expensive.

some cheaper/less expensive tyres to explore - toyo t1 sport, hankook ventus s1 evo, yoko advan v105

cheers, shopping around for deals and will happily settle for the others you've mentioned at the right price. you don't rate rotating? didn't have my subi long enough (nor drive it far enough) for that but on old toyota cars i saw significant difference, as one particular car i had for 5 years and didn't rotate tyres at all, they looked brand new on outer edge and inner /center was completely bald so super dangerous (negligence on my part lol).

ya 245 40 19 is the stock rear tyre size. also the strange thing was that stock staggered setup has 224/45 on the fronts and all places that quoted me so far have the 225/45 front more expensive than 245/40 rears, so it gave me more incentive to consider the square setup rather than staggered.

  18. Sorry for crashing this topic but seems like your matter was resolved, thought I'll grab a few opinions on mine!

shopping around for set of 245 40 19 for RWD Vehicle (infiniti g37s).

extremely unlikely to see track use, might see the odd spirited driving in summer but nothing significant in winter other than commutes etc. less so now with rising fuel prices might just stay at home and uber eats all day every day.

factory setup is 225 45 19 front, 245 40 19 rears but other popular setups i read are 245 40 19 all around (ability to rotate for tyres to last longer with no significant handling impacts, 0.95% speedo diff) or alternatively the "+0" sizing 245 40 19 fronts with 275 35 19 rears. initially wanted to go latter route but found how expensive 275s are and given that won't be able to rotate the tyres, i won't get as much life out of them either. then again my rear wheels are 9", fronts 8.5" so i have some concerns about if rotating is actually viable or not lol.

Received a few quotes so just tallying up some of the ones i seen.

    245 40 19

    4 x Toyo Proxes T1R $1315 fit/balance+alignment. (hyper)

    4 x Bridgestone Potenza RE003 $1450 fit/balance+alignment.  (tonys)

    4 x Michellin Pilot Sport 4 $1700 fit/balance, $100 extra for alignment. (beaurepaires)

Tonys offer tyre insurance for about $14 per tyre and beaurepaires have something similar, i'm guessing that is highly worth while?

It's one of those journeys that leads me down the whole 'spend a little more now and get something significantly better' rabbit hole and not entirely sure exactly where to stop lol. if money was not as tight it would be a real easy choice to go for the MPS4 or even the 4S.

anyone out there can do club deals or anything hit me up :P

  19. i switched to mobil 98, as their min RON value is also 98 which is really all i care about. they also seem to advertise same kind of benefits from the additives that BP markets. i guess if you wanted to be really objective about this then would ideally have knock counter on a car testing between the different fuels but i wouldn't expect any worthy differences between those two.. might just be confirmation bias though.

as others have said, mobil 98 is cheaper at shelf price before even applying their smiles discounts than BP price including the smartfuel discounts. i also wait for the 10c off per litres wednesdays if i can, for that extra bit of savings.

just as an FYI in case anyone hasn't heard of it, check this app out - https://gaspy.nz/

i check Gaspy in diffrent regions out of curiosity and though i don't beleive in driving far out of my way just to get a fuel discount, i know for example that when i go visit my cousin out in bayview every couple weeks i can stop in at the mobil in that area to feed my car 98 at about 10c/litre cheaper than it is near my house. i imagine i'll also be using this for a bit of forward planning on future road trips also. used to really not care about saving a few cents here and there but since i started doing the math on it, my expenditure on the premium juices became quite shocking after i moved on from my 1.8L corolla..
