Maybe a V7 STi shortblock? Seen a few on Trademe for quite good prices...
-
Old thread.... but I hear in South Auckland there's a few streets where some awesome 'mechanics' will come and remove your rims faster than you can say "is that a battery powered rattle gun?"
Free labour too.

From what I've read you have to snap 1 fitting off the factory pipe (breather maybe?) or it won't slide out from under the manifold.

I propose changing the rules so that after a person gains the current 'tag' by posting their car in the location, they have 1 week (or something?) to place a new tag or the photo of their car in the previous location is deemed to be the new tag and other people can then go and pursue it.
Otherwise the 'game' can be effectively broken by someone gaining the tag and not placing a new one for a considerable amount of time.
I mean, I know people are busy but if you're going to go to the effort of collecting the current tag you should at least have time to go make a new one.
Your thoughts?

I'm only juuuust past being a teenager and the only times I've ever really lost traction have been on snow...
Can't see the appeal in wrecking your car doing burnouts and I'm well informed that AWDs don't drift. Besides the fact that understeer scares the living shizzzzzzzle out of me.
That said, I'm not at all averse to giving it some far-right jandal when the circumstances allow.

Yes, I believe that's the one.

It's called dreaming out loud on the internet.
The stupid thing is, he has a Spec C so it's not like he's too poor to actually do it, like most kids who announce their 'big projects' that will never come to fruition.

Add some 20" chromies. That'll make it unique.
...or are you just trying to justify adding more power that you still don't need....
-
Presumably, if it's AVCS it'll have these in the banjo fittings.
-
Hmm ok was gonna say Pioneer headunit but I see you're using the high level inputs...
Probably speaker wire grounding out somewhere, as mentioned above. Check the speaker terminals aren't touching the door metal.

Rego plate still would be really good.

Did you run some Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner through it yet?
-
Nobody wants to spend the money for NOS + C16 + the ECU and tune to run it... considering they are all useless for the street.
-
I looked into doing this.
Conclusions I reached...
-Don't get a used motor, you have little to no idea of the history
-Building a motor is rudely expensive, generally speaking
-Buy a closed deck block and build it on the side, that way you can do it bit by bit because you haven't killed your car... yet
Although the final conclusion was that after all that, I still would have to do a hell of a lot more conversions and when all was said and done all I would have is basically an STi that isn't worth as much as an STi because it technically isn't one, with a built motor.
So instead I sold the car and bought a V7 STi. So much stuff already done from the factory - forged bottom end, HUGE brakes, blah blah blah. Plus you get goodies like VVT. And realistically, for less money than I would have spent converting my V3 WRX.

He means a man's GPS, not a woman's supermarket finder ;D
Most decent GPS' will show you your velocity, although it depends on the road being very flat since even a slight incline will mean your road speed vs your positional velocity will be different...

I opened up the box in my V7 (I believe it's the BCM?) and de-soldered the little speaker that does the various chimes. So no more ding ding if I have the door open or when I'm in reverse.
I HATE little beeping sounds. My family's old Corona used to go DING DING DING at over 104kmh, hammer quickly fixed that.
-
What's the speed cut based on? My V7 definitely has the '180kmh' speed cut but the needle goes well off the end before it does. So I wonder there's a second, accurate 'speedo' that the car uses internally, while reading ~10% or whatever over on the dash?

Damn, so I'm meant to check these every service? What a pain in the ass ;/
EDIT: Hold on, so I can just pull them out and not replace them because the oil filter is doing the same job anyway?
-
Ok, this one may seem a bit random...
I have a V7 sedan. I never, ever, ever use the center seat in the back.
How hard/possible would it be to install a pair of V7 bucket seats in the back? I assume it would require a cert but I'm getting one fairly soon anyway for some other modifications.

Sorted, thanks very much everyone involved

bring back capital punishment. Car thieves you take a hand.

word.
anyone ever watch that target show where they had the jazzed up civic type r left in dodgy locales in Akl?
They video camera'd them trying to break in.
IMO it would have made better tv if there were 3 guys with baseball bats waiting to pwn the thieves and THEN RECORD THAT!!
I have always thought it would be an idea to leave a car parked up somewhere dodgy, leave an empty laptop bag on the back seat and have the car fitted with a high end paging alarm with the siren disconnected. Go hang out around the corner with a few mates and a few bats, wait for the pager to start bleeping, then use 'reasonable force' to 'affect a citizens arrest'....
EDIT: As for steering wheel locks... there's a bit of a saying in car security... it takes 5 minutes to saw through a Club lock, or 30 seconds to saw through a steering wheel. Although as you say, it does stop the useless ones. What was your alarm doing the whole time?

The last jump was what, 9c a litre for 98 octane at BP?
I haven't heard a damn thing that would justify a leap like that. I know currency fluctuations take a little while to get through to the consumer but didn't we just have a record HIGH against the greenback? When is that going to work its way through?
I mean yeah, I know you have to pay to play but where did that leap come from?

Hurry up and put a new tag up you dick ;D

Nooo! Why did you do it!
Thats what I was thinking!!!
Filled up car today for first time ever, although stopped at 49L for some reason seeing I thought it was a 60L tank but meh.
$1.99.99 a Litre for 95
My subey also takes ~50L to 'fill' but I suspect you get quite a bit of mileage on the big E. Something about ej20t's getting severely raped if you ever run them dry.

Oh, and remember to check the inside of it thoroughly. I've heard of some of them having quite a lot of casting debris inside, wouldn't want that going through your turbo/intercooler/motor...
