  1. No longer the owner of a Subaru... Gonna miss the S401. Got lots of fond memories of it with Mum doing random little road trips over the last 3 years of her life. I got the car pretty much just before she got sick. Now, I've got a car better suited for long trips and all that, and luckily a lovely young woman (better than the last one I "dated") to explore with. Think I'll probably sign off from here for now. I'll check back every now and again, and provide advice if needed. Kia Ora fellas! Enjoy the drive!
  2. Geez. Every time I've hit a Possum it's been dead Possum, and fine car. Must've been standing up... Was this what hitting it was like?
  3. No RHD model too. BIG mistake considering how good the R3 still is, and how much better the R7 is despite it only being a slight upgrade. Radenso might be the detector brand to go for soon...the main developer who did the R3 & R7 has just left Uniden for Radenso. So, I'll get me a new R3 me thinks.
  4. Emailed RadarDirect about the R7NZ. It was supposed to be here this month, but it's been pushed back a month to fix up some bugs in the software before release. RRP as advised by Uniden NZ is $1300.
  5. True. I only use my home PC to stop me looking at it all day! PROCRASTINATION
  6. So, the start of passing the Subaru onto it's new owner has begun... Officially bought a 2015 Mazda 6 GSX wagon. Picking it up tomorrow (8/5) Better get me a motorbike sooner rather than later I think Edit - I'm not liking these now emojis... Edit - have to scroll down for them
  7. Already sold. A good friend expressed interest, and it was a no-brainer. Still get to see it round and drive it on the odd chance. I was in 2 minds - sell and forget, or sell it to my mate. Glad I chose to sell it to my mate! The car has a lot of memories in it for me - mainly of my Mum who passed earlier this year. We did quite a few road trips in it together for random things.
  8. The last RS4 manual too...and that V8! Such a wonderful engine! But when the timing chain guides fail (plastic), they're a SUPER fun job (NOT). Only one on TM that grabs me (it's not black, white or silver lol). I'd love a Yellow one! Less than 1000 of those worldwide.
  9. Subaru probably handled better than the B5 RS4 though. B7 RS4 is still the best RS4 they ever made though. I'm really tempted to pick one up instead of a Mazda at the moment...like, VERY TEMPTED
  10. True. The S401 is just that much more special with all the extra little bits they got. I adore the 6 Speed (TY86) that Subaru has been making for ages! Such a wonderful transmission. Probably my favourite 6 speed - nice and notchy, and you always know you've gone into gear (especially with the CorgiWerx Delrin shifter bushings I've got in it). I think the Rev D Legacy's are an unknown classic at the moment, for many reasons. Yes, they're flawed because of the TT system, but at the same time it makes them rather interesting and fun to drive! Then there's A_J_T who's first words about a Rev D TT is to "Single Turbo it brah," which are wise words lol. The full black interior is quite something. Makes the interior feel much more complete compared the the white/cream upper like normal. The closest thing to a S401 wagon from Subaru is the S-Edition wagon. They get the full black interior, but with the stock seats, and dash bits. Plus they got the WR Blue paint, 17" BBS wheels, and the 4 pot Subaru Sumitomo (or are they Tokiko?) calipers. Small changes over a normal Rev D TT, but enough to makes them that little bit more special!
  11. Took it for a *NOT* Sunday drive I'm gonna miss the hell out of this car. The S401 is a truly special machine
  12. I actually find that Mothers Chrome Polish works an absolute charm for me. On the outside at least. Put a couple of coats on my Legacy windscreen ages ago (like, over a year), and the rain still beads up nicely!
  13. ^^ THIS ^^ They're now a "badge" to denote a cosmetic upgrade. Yes, they may have been designed by the proper engineers, but gone are the days where they did a lot of the work themselves in house, to make properly special cars.
  14. I could potentially be interested... depending on the price of the R7 when it comes out. Not wanting to spend over $1300 on it.
  15. Repaint those wiper arms man! Make it look much nicer. And a grille definitely. Looks awesome though! FeelsGoodMan to have a car all one colour aye!
  16. True. They are the ULTIMATE Type R really. But for me, the EP3 sticks out the most, for it's whacky gear lever coming out of the dash. And, the K20 - such a wonderful engine! Far less to worry about maintenance wise compared to the older B16B. Heck, even the normal K20/K24's are something if tuned well. SpeedAcademy threw a high mileage one in a Nissan S14, and it makes like 200whp, which is impressive for a old, worn engine, that came out of a nothing fancy Accord. Redline at 8000rpm, which is pretty high for a 2.4. They have plans to turbo it...
  17. The new FK8 does. Not suprised though - the aero on it is bad, but screams "I'm fast" - while doing so with a very boring sounding inline 4 turbo. I'd still have the old EP3 Type R over the newer ones any day. Won't be as fast as a WRX/STI though
  18. I know Subaru NZ imported a few of these NZ New. But as an import, they're around. Seen a few around Whangarei, including the one our friend here bought.
  19. A lot of the fellas here speak highly of Motul. And I've heard similar things about it too. Personally, I use Castrol Edge 5W-30, as that's what SubLab (Whangarei Subaru mechanic) recommended me ages ago. Also cos the other stuff at the time was in 4L containers, not 5L like the Castrol Edge (02 TT Legacy takes 4.5L). Castrol is probably the best "generic" brand you can buy in my opinion. But if you can afford to spring the extra cash for Motul, DO IT.
  20. Cheers for the input fellas! Definitely gonna be going the Uniden R7, as I'll be putting this in the new Mazda. Probably gonna get it later in April. So I can wait for the R7NZ to come out . Plan on doing quite a bit of road trips with it, so wanting a RD for when on the road for the Highway Patrol cops that prowl around. I should be able to use Waze with the Mazda's infotainment system hopefully - if not I'll just get the upgrade you can get for them. Especially considering the speedo in my S401 is basically dead accurate (1-2km/h read error at 110km/h) hahaha
  21. As per title - what do you fellas recommend for a radar detector? I'm stuck between the three kinda obvious ones - - Uniden R3NZ - Escort Redline EX - Escort MAX 360C Price isn't a worry to me, just which any of you fellas would recommend. Also where is the best place to get one? Also, if someone wants to recommend me one for a motorbike, would be appreciated too 😂
  22. Seconded. The incoming SkyActiv-X engine is pretty darn neato too. A lot of other manufacturers have been trying to crack compression ignition with petrol for years reliably, but Mazda has some how done it (SUPER lean fuel mixture essentially). It's due out in the new Mazda 3 sometime late this year, or very early 2020 (Europe gets the engine first due to emmisons regulations over there). Also, the next Mazda 6 is being co-developed with Toyota on a shared platform. Rumours circulating is that the platform is coming from BMW, so we could see a RWD Mazda 6, or higher model (Mazda 9? after the 929 of past) in future. Next Mazda 6 will be 2020 release anyway, so I doubt that the platform will be BMW, but definitely developed with Toyota. Toyota already rebadges a few Mazda cars for various markets, and Mazda makes a Hybrid Axela (3 in Japan) which is basically Mazda 2.0L, with Toyota Prius transmission/hybrid unit.
  23. Haha, Nah. She needs her own wheels. I can't afford to keep the Subaru and buy a Mazda. At least the Subaru is going to a good home in my eyes. The missus will probably get a motorbike of her own in the future, so no need to worry about keeping all the toys for myself! Was that a GLX 2.0? I'm not wanting one of those. The 2.0 isn't a good engine in the 6 in my opinion. Definitely getting a GSX with a 2.5 petrol. Dad has a 2017 2.2 diesel Limited which is actually pretty quick. I'm ideally going for a release model 2013/14 GJ chassis GSX 2.5 petrol. Has the older TomTom satnav system in it, but it'll do for what I want. Comes a hell of a lot better equipped than the older GH chassis ones in terms of tech and that.
